an honest "thank you" to the ult spamming exploiters

With this thread, I just wanna thank those guys that were dumb enough to use the cheat engine to spam ultimates. You guys made ZoS and everyone else aware that there is a big issue within the game. Chances are, if you people hadn't used it like that but in a more subtle way (removing CP cap, increase stats and whatever else you could do) no one might have noticed for a long time. Maybe this has been going on for a long time already, who knows? I used to make fun of people accusing others of cheating with programs. I thought it's simply not possible (anymore) and those players just needed to l2p. I, and many others, stand corrected. There is ways to hack the game. And we know of it now because some players thought it's a good idea to make it as obvious as possible.

So thanks, with your idiotic actions you brought attention to a very serious issue and while I usually don't have high expectations regarding ZoS, I do hope they'll be able to fix it. Even if it means delaying Dark Brotherhood and whatever else work there is that needs to be done.

Nonetheless, I hope all of you who are confirmed of using the cheat engine get banned. For good.

You know what scares me most about the people using them... Everyone suspects they need to L2P that they couldn't play without the hacks. What if they are actually decent players who are just bored and want to *** with people. People who don't care if their second or third 12$ account gets banned after a few weeks of tormenting people for the fun of it. Even with a permaban coming, I bet these people will still be in game on their real accounts waiting for the moment they can do it all over again.

I'll repost what I said in the other thread:
What you should have done is report this problem to ZOS. And include with your report a deadline for when you'll disclose this problem publicly.

Yes, public disclosure is sometimes necessary. Sometimes you do need to force someone's hand or give someone more incentive to prioritize a problem. But you do that through responsible disclosure. Give ZOS the heads-up, give them a reasonable amount of time to either fix or find ways to mitigate the problem, and by the end of that time, you can then go public.

And by reasonable, I mean something on the order of months, esp. for something like this that would take a substantial amount of rearchitecting to fully address. Google, for example, will typically give another party 60 days to fix something before they go public with a vulnerability. (As someone who has worked in software security and who has a rough inkling of the kind of work it would probably take to fully address a problem like this, 60 days frankly seems way too short.)

Timing this on a holiday weekend right before a major release is, at best, irresponsible, and at worst, malicious.

They won't delay DB DLC - there is crown store stuff coming with it and crafting bags will make more people subscribing. So this is a vital thing to get out in order to cash in on it.

Hahaha I thought that it's not possible to cheat in this game too. I hope everyone who has done this will get permabanned and I'm really looking forward to see who that stuff used in the game :)
I used to think that PvP was a tragedy, but now I realize, it's a comedy.

I'm still pretty sure it was a PR iniciative from some other company, former employee, or likely some angry gamer, since the "Dark Brotherhood" (big deal on ES franchise) dlc is just about to be released, think about the bad publicity it would bring to the game, having a blunt and obvious hack engine available (even if for a couple of days) and all that, right at the moment the game would be getting attention.

But you know, conspiracy theories and all that, it probably just took some time for the lazy bums geek to cook up a decent hax and some other time for a special enough kid to buy it.
    ...Dat timing, tho'

I compete with no one in the game, so this is not really something, what would bother me personally - but it bothers me seen from the viability of this game. Stuff like this has made me leave Archeage - but there I was involved in pvp and intercontinental trade, which leads through contested areas. Hackers did not fight at all, they just froze me in place and killed me. No chance to do anything, this was just not fun at all - so I left the game and this can happen here as well for all, who are interested in any kind of competitive gameplay.

Edit: well, it does not bother me personally yet - but I am interested into the new gameplay in the IC, I will not really compete, but I want at least a fair fight - fair as in all obey the same rule sets - I will get killed, for certain, but I do not bother about that, if it was fair play.
