Zone chat. on/off?

Whats your choice and why?
For me, it's off. If I wanted to listen to someone yell obscenities, slurs and racial epithets. I's watch FOX news... jk
I think it's time that ESO GMs/Mods step in and do some policing in /zone chat. It seems like /report has no effect, So the same ppl are there day after day. /IGNORE helps but their still there.
Communication is important in any MMO, if the major contact points is disabled due to ppl being major JERKS then we have a problem!

I used to leave on zone chat until music starts being blasted through. Usually terrible music. Now I always leave chat off.

I leave area chat on unless I am in Grahtwood. It's too loud there, no way for me to hear anything useful anymore.

I mute the people who blast music or yell obscenities. It sometimes leads to me only hearing half a conversation, of course, which can be highly amusing sometimes.

I leave area chat off. I'm usually in a private party chat with my group, guild chat, or I'm not using my headset at all.

VC is horrible! I can't wait for chat box on console.
I know people are abusive on them too but that doesn't bother me its the noise that bothers me.

    People yelling over each other.
Poor quality mics all too common.
And the one that bugs me the most... having to listen some idiots miserable family life. Wife yelling, kids screaming! Ugh.

VC is useless in ESO imo.

I ALWAYS turn off zone chat for exactly that reason. If I wanted to listen to the yammerings of an insane asylum where none of the patients had been given their meds... You get the idea.

I leave it on unless I am getting to much chatter from it then I turn it off. My biggest issue is sometimes forget to turn it back on. I would like to have a suspend timer so it comes back on automatically.

    Off subject..
Chat on console IMHO will not be what everyone thinks it is going to be. People are far more brave to type things than they are to say them.

Other chat issues will be a pug group where some people are using voice , others chat and the voice people do not have the chat on and visa-versa. I for one will have chat always off as I am not typing while playing a console game. This will lead to people getting vote kicked and general frustration to a degree. All speculation on my party of course as we will see when we actually have it implemented.

Although I am fairly certain all of you are console players (judging by the post content), I can speak from a PC standpoint.

Zone can be...interesting. And when I say interesting, I mean more disturbing than anything else. But, eh, I just ignore them and carry on with my day.

It's not in our power to fix this, it's up to ESO. /Ignore isn't the answer.

Being perfectly reasonable I think it's beyond ZOS...this is a parent fail and society fail thing.

So if ESO is the parent, can they fix it or just succumb to bratty kids?

Obviously I'm thinking like a gamer, because I just successfully gamed our little chat.

Well, considering the game has an option to filter profanity (text chat on the PC), I don't think ZOS really cares if people swear in chat. Relating this to another current topic on the forums, this game is rated for adults. If you expect the community to act like innocent children, you've got a surprise incoming. That being said though, yes, people should exercise restraint in what they say. Not everything actually needs to be said. You can quite often accurately judge someone's maturity level off of what they say. Not everyone has such control, that's life. For those people, sure, ignore them. There are ways around it.

Something I should also mention, is that vulgarity is HIGHLY dependent on where you live/where you grew up. I know that many daily conversations in Australia for example, would be very offensive to people who don't live here (or in the United Kingdom or New Zealand for that matter). At this point, you also have to realise that they don't actually know that they they're being offensive. In fact, it may not be offensive at all from their point of view. If you don't like it, just say so (may result in some hilariously offensive comebacks), or ignore.

tl;dr: You are never forced to listen to these things. There are always ways around it.
