I'm sorry @dpencil but I reject the idea that ESO should remain tame so children can watch/play. That's on you man. The rest of us shouldn't have the game watered down because parents ignore the rating... which is pretty much what has happened.

Killing and violence , ok ,

    Bad words and boobies ?

Life threatening danger the kids must be protected from.

Sidestory , son is 7 , daughter 5 (pics in real life looks thread if want to see the buggers ) , anyway their favorite movie is World War Z , they love to play zombies and so on. Daughter last year is at some event with wife , and playing with other kids her age.

Says lets play zombies , uptight other mom freaks out , tells my wife

"We don't play that sort of thing around our house."

Daughter pipes up to her kid

"I'm sorry you have a weird mommy"

Wife was still laughing when got home.

(and by god my kids will know how to handle the axe and bat when the Zombie Apocalypse hits , the other kids can be the fodder I say)

Some of the voice acting is terrible lol, I'm always being put in mind of a parent gruffly voicing Daddy Bear yelling 'who's been eating my porridge' when I hear some of the 'bad guys'.

Let's examine a bit of Shakespeare shall we? Don't worry, you'll be quite amused.

"Drunkenness is his best virtue, for he will be swine drunk, and in his sleep he does little harm, save to his bedclothes about him." -- All's Well That Ends Well.

"I must tell you friendly in your ear, sell when you can, you are not for all markets." --As You Like It.

"Thou art a base, proud, shallow, beggarly, three-suited, hundred-pound, filthy worsted-stocking knave; a lily-liver'd, action-taking, whoreson, glass-gazing, superserviceable, finical rogue; one-trunk-inheriting slave; one that wouldst be a bawd in way of good service, and art nothing but the composition of a knave, beggar, coward, pandar, and the son and heir of a mungril ***." --King Lear.

"Tempt not too much the hatred of my spirit, for I am sick when I do look on thee." --A Midsummer Night's Dream.

"I desire that we be better strangers." --As You Like It.

"Villain, I have done thy mother" --Titus Andronicus

"Would thou were clean enough to spit on" --Timon of Athens

    I'd rather hear npc's talk like a teen than a pseudo-intellectual.

While I completely agree with this Tandor, I think censoring that just replaces the curse word with another word (darn, dang, shucks, shoot, etc...) can come across as childish. I could see how "Son of a dog" could come across as such because it's appropriating a phrase from our culture and changing it to be less foul while trying to retain the original context from our culture.

I don't think anyone wants there to be blatant vulgarities shouted across Tamriel, just that there be less blatantly obvious censorships that seem more at place in a Pixar film than an M rated videogame.

That's as may be but the usage today is distinctly American vulgarity. As you say it was just common vernacular in the Anglo Saxon world. My point remains though. Nern is not Earth and everyday vernacular, be it slang or vulgarity, in any language has the immediate effect of sounding like the local playground (because kids start talking that way really young). I don't use such language and so am sensitive to the sounds but it is still inappropriate as a fantasy swear word. N'wah and Fetcher even milk-drinker do very well to convey the sense that you have been insulted and perhaps ought to punch somebody in the face.

I agree that son of a dog was just bad. I think flea-ridden offspring of a mangy skeever would have been better but I always prefer an inventive insult to a common expletive especially since the ones in common usage have lost all real meaning. Really, when someone kicks a chair and stubs a toe they let out with a string of expletives but how is a chair going to have illicit carnal knowledge of its mother much less have excretions of organic waste matter? ? Let's just make up words that the imagination of the listener can embellish.

As for the person who thinks the lack of vulgarity makes PvE boring, that just makes no sense at all.

Ugh...I see my incompetent scribe has had one drink too many...allow me, Lord Arena25, to clarify her post.

My assistant believes that if "son of a dog" is the worst taunt that comes out of an NPC's mouth, you are the luckiest man/woman alive.

My assistant also believes that highs school students say taunts and other things that are 1000 times worse.

Now that the record is corrected, let me share my personal views:

I do agree with my assistant that the taunts must be spiced up. I do completely understand that ESO was attempting to go for a T for Teen rating, but it's an M for Mature (and most likely for good) so I think it's time ESO uses that M for Mature rating to their advantage.

Just as a reference, in my 4 years in high school, I have listened to more f-bombs, s-bombs, and other cuss language than I probably will ever hear in two lifetimes. And keep in mind, the school is adamant that students don't use any cuss language, but do they follow the rules? No.

ZOS, if my fellow students can drop f-bombs and s-bombs to the point where cuss language is the second language in my school (after English, of course), then the taunts in ESO can be improved upon.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I'm trying to frantically correct my scribe's record while I'm tired. Note to everyone else who can afford a scribe: Don't let him/her drink...the results can be disastrous.

    Signed,

thats why pve in this game is *** boring

While I agree that it's ridiculous to dumb down an insult like "son of a ***", particularly when words like "***" get used, it's hardly the reason that PvE in this game is so utterly boring.

Those original designs, along with other, even skimpier designs in other games, are aimed at kids (in age and / or maturity). They're a sad indictment on society that standards have slipped so far that even kids TV shows have sexual content in them.

The changes make sense from a game perspective. What kind of a muppet would go into a fight with that much exposed skin when they had the option to cover up? However little resistance armour offers against an arrow or sword, it's still orders of magnitude higher than the resistance offered by exposed skin, making it a no-brainer to cover up as much as possible.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

I prefer the culturally derived insults 'You n'wah' to something that feels like it came out of Fifty Cent's mouth. There's something to be said for them to attempt to immerse us in this fantasy world. I will admit some elements of the game are pretty juvenile, though I'm looking at it in a different perspective perhaps. I think the way a large number of Nords lose their pants and get drunk is juvenile at times. It was funny the first time, but through repetition just made me feel sorry for the Nords. Skyrim didn't do that for me. There was a lot to admire as well as view as flawed in the Nord culture of Skyrim, and I liked that. I feel the Nords got glossed over with a caricature in ESO which I didn't particularly like. Its okay to have a Falstaff here and there, but don't make a whole race of characters Falstaff please.
