PvP hands down - it's basically endless entertainment. I do enjoy a bit of PvE though. Imperial City is the perfect goulash in my opinion.

I think it would be in ZOS' best interests to focus on PvP right now. I say this as one who did not originally want to PvP when I first started this game. Now I caught the PvP bug and can't get enough.

But my point is that Bethesda is going to eventually put out TES6. The players interested in an Elder Scrolls PvE experience are going to leave ESO and flock to TES6. Who will be left? Mainly PvP players. Sure, they'll utilize PvE but mainly for skyshrads, lorebooks, set crafting stations, and grinding for monster helms (which, technically, they could buy now). If my prediction holds true, PvP will need to be fixed, i.e. LAG, class balancing, etc. ZOS needs to start working on that NOW in order to be ready for when TES6 drops.

Actually I find PvPer too repetitive, with PVE there is so much to do im never bored.
PVE is also less stressful and you can just wander around admiring the scenery, oh and shove your sword through furry animals.

Can I pick endless PvE? I want to explore and find new places just over the hill, which I want to be able to climb or at the bottom of the sea, which I want to be able to swim in. I want to be able to sneak past enemies I don't ever want to fight. Why would any game think I want to kill tigers? And when I get to the end of the map I want to turn around and find the old one changed while I wasn't looking. I don't care about gear; if it keeps me alive then it's good enough. If I chase achievements they should be fun or frivolous. Don't count the livestock I slaughter; count the rats I killed by accident.

I want to be able to pick flowers or fights, build houses or alliances, take what I want or need by stealth or by force. Endless PvE isn't anti-social; there can be parties and dancing contests and general silliness. It can be played solo or cooperatively with your partner, or a group of friends. It can even have PUGs for running dungeons big or small. What it doesn't have is other players forcing me to play their way for any reason.

    PvE, easily.

I've been playing MMORPG's since they first started, as it says in my sig. Needless to say, I've been playing in MMO's since before the FPS kiddos ever whined about getting some sort of PvP introduced into the genre. I've also been a steadfast, vocal opponent to any type of PvP in MMORPG's. IMO, PvP goes completely against the grain of what an MMO is at it's very core.

I also know that the largest (best guess-timate is 80+%) population of players in any MMO is found in the PvE side of the games, and that can be found industry-wide. PvP could evaporate from every MMO tomorrow, and most every MMO on the market right now would keep plugging along just fine.

If people want the Massively Multiplayer aspects but mixed with FPS PvP, then MOBA's are probably a better fit for those players rather than an MMORPG. Those games are designed with PvP at their core, and those FPS players can leave the MMO genre in peace.

PvP has zero place in any MMORPG.

On lazy days I get up in the morning, hop into Cyrodiil and find plenty of admiring scenery. Plenty of interesting sights to discover while you are off the path and into the wilds of Cyrodiil.

Why just yesterday, I found a camp of refugees from Hackdirt whom I have not seen before. I sat down with them, and listened to their story. Filthy and covered in dirt, they were full of despair, anger, and fear. They blamed their situation on the war for the Ruby Throne and claimed no one would come to help them stomp out the Blackdaggers gang that over ran their poor farming community. For once in a long time, I felt bad about participating in the war. Because these refugees are the real losers in war.

Sure, things "change and evolve". That's why MOBA's were created, and most every FPS is more "Online Shooter" than focused on the campaign.

Buy my point still stands as well.

PvP goes against the very core nature of what an MMORPG is. A massive, majority focus on PvE. Quest depth, variety of content, and allowing for immersive Role Playing byt the design of the world. PvP has no place in that, and adding PvP into the MMORPG genre was a mistake that developers are only now beginning to correct.

And they're correcting it by focusing more and more on the PvE aspects; and less and less on the PvP.

They're letting FPS's and MOBA's have the PvP niche. MMORPG's are slowly transitioning back to PvE-only experiences, and that transition cannot complete itself soon enough IMO.

I play RPGs for the story.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I don't quite get how you arrive to your definition of the very core of an MMORPG. It's a virtual world, where players interact with each other. How they interact is not defined. That is the core. In your opinion it's only PvE.
And I don't see this mistake you speak of, in fact the coming MMORPG's more or less all contain some sort of PvP. Seems as if these developers disagree with your point of view. Same goes for ESO: The additional content (in form of zones and such) may be PvE, but balance happens mostly around PvP. Arenas and Battlegrounds are coming. PvP sets are being introduced and upscaled. I don't see how your point may be valid that MMORPG's are transitioning to a PvE only thing.
