A single-player game does not have the longevity that an MMO does. Does a single-player game offer YEARS of updates, patches, new content, etc? NO. A single-player game may get a couple of DLCS in the first year, possibly two, but after that you get NOTHING. Thus, the life-cycle of a single-player game is finite, an MMO is infinite, at least until the servers shut down. So sure, players may leave to play ES-VI, but after they finish the game, they'll be back to ESO.
Perhaps this is another reason Bethesda has not even mentioned ES-VI, because they don't want players waiting for ES-VI to release, they want them playing ESO.

One thing that great single player games have going for them, is the lack of a toxic pvp community. I swear out of all online games I've played so far, ESO has the worst elitist community there is. A pack of wolves hanging together collectively bashing whoever doesn't 'fit in' with them is hilarious.
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.
He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.
You'll be waiting some time for ES VI yet.
But obvs I'll still play this if it's still around when ES VI comes. It'll be at least 3 years I reckon until ES VI gets talked about by Bethesda.
They don't compete OP that's the beauty of it
Except a ton of casuals will prob stop since they were like "this isn't Skyrim!"
I think that's where Zeni made a big mistake appealing too much to them instead of further developing their own identity they shifted towards becoming Skyrim online to a certain extent.
BUT they are slowly doing both now which is something I admire, so they are developping the identity and appealing to the masses of casuals that don't know anything about TES apart from Skyrim having dragons.
Yes, I don't think TES 6 will be able to create a world that is more alive than an MMO. I mean, you play alone there and it's fun and everything, but it's too scripted compared to an MMO experience.

That said, I hope the next ES game is set directly before ESO. The capability they have to using the next ES game to fully support their MMO, by providing backstory to the war of the Alliance and the summoning of Molag Bal.
We could possibly even witness the Akaviri invasion, or even BE an Akaviri. Ahh, the possibilities.
Or you could just let me make my Imperial legionairre and murder the f*** out of some more Thalmor. I'd be happy with that too.
I'll play both, Why people seem to think you can only play one game at a time is beyond me...
