Will You Still Play TESO:TU Once TES:VI Is Released?

I may still play TESO:TU once TES:VI is out, but it depends. (explain why)
I am not happy with some changes TESO wants to implement as I feel the unique elder scrolls experience, that made me play this game, is fading.

Maybe I worry to much, I will definately have a look and make up my mind based on first hand experience, but if I do not like the path TESO chooses, I will leave. (ofc)

Having the option to play a new elder scrolls game is just a "good-to-have" goddy, not a tiebreaker, in the process of making up my mind.

They don't compete OP that's the beauty of it

Except a ton of casuals will prob stop since they were like "this isn't Skyrim!"

I think that's where Zeni made a big mistake appealing too much to them instead of further developing their own identity they shifted towards becoming Skyrim online to a certain extent.

BUT they are slowly doing both now which is something I admire, so they are developping the identity and appealing to the masses of casuals that don't know anything about TES apart from Skyrim having dragons.

A single-player game does not have the longevity that an MMO does. Does a single-player game offer YEARS of updates, patches, new content, etc? NO. A single-player game may get a couple of DLCS in the first year, possibly two, but after that you get NOTHING. Thus, the life-cycle of a single-player game is finite, an MMO is infinite, at least until the servers shut down. So sure, players may leave to play ES-VI, but after they finish the game, they'll be back to ESO.

Perhaps this is another reason Bethesda has not even mentioned ES-VI, because they don't want players waiting for ES-VI to release, they want them playing ESO.

One thing that great single player games have going for them, is the lack of a toxic pvp community. I swear out of all online games I've played so far, ESO has the worst elitist community there is. A pack of wolves hanging together collectively bashing whoever doesn't 'fit in' with them is hilarious.

Have you played DCUO? It's worse over there, or at least was when I played. I've heard that other MMOs also have it worse than ESO, some have called ESO forums 'much better' than where they came from... I'd agree, DCUO was MUCH worse compared to ESO.

There's usually about a month before each new DLC where I only log for Writs and maybe a daily, and it generally takes me about a month to wear the shiny off of a new game to the point where I can put it down. So as long as they don't release a new DLC at the exact same time as the new single player ES game, I won't have to pick. :)

I'll play 100+ hours, then when that story is done, I'll come back here.

That said, I hope the next ES game is set directly before ESO. The capability they have to using the next ES game to fully support their MMO, by providing backstory to the war of the Alliance and the summoning of Molag Bal.

We could possibly even witness the Akaviri invasion, or even BE an Akaviri. Ahh, the possibilities.

Or you could just let me make my Imperial legionairre and murder the f*** out of some more Thalmor. I'd be happy with that too.

He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

Yes for the same reasons I am still playing now that Fallout 4 is out.

Whilst I will spend hours on TES VI enjoying my own game and immersion it doesn't offer me the enjoyment of playing an MMO in the setting.

I really enjoy the MMO mechanics of this game (although I would still rather more sandbox features) so I'll stick around here as well.

It depends on the state of ESO at that time and the state of TES:VI when it releases. TES:VI will certainly be stunning visually. However, if the overall trend of simplification and voiding of any sense of weight to in game decisions that we've seen in the last couple singles player games continues, I'll play it but not for all that long. It also seems that ESO is improving all the time. The pace of improvement is glacial at best but 2 years is a long time.

Just keep in mind that "casual" does not equal "Skyrim fan"

I prefer the Elder Scrolls aspects of the game. One of the things that I hoped Mr Lurk would bring is a more Elder Scrolls feel to the game, but if he is doing anything in that respect, it is being drowned out by the non Elder Scrolls people in the Studio. That would be mostly Mr Combat, I think. It could go higher into the Production staff, though.

So, yeah, from your perspective, catering to people like me, an Elder Scrolls fan, is bad if you are a fan of MMO mechanics that are free of the burden of Elder Scrolls.

If anything drives me to TES 6, it will be ZOS. It has nothing to do with me being "casual".

I'll take a break for a while to play TES VI and then I'll come back.

I still play TES IV and V sometimes. They are single players, they can't replace my MMO of choice. The same way my MMO of choice can't replace a single player. Each have their own separate space in my heart.

Based on the events of TES V and the state of the Summerset Isles in the 4th Era (or "Alinor" as those awful 4th Era Thalmor renamed it), I will be very surprised if TES VI doesn't take place there. The main land is opening their ports for outsiders for the first time in centuries, the Thalmor are attacking their own people, the young Altmer are resisting the Thalmor government (and being hunt down and killed for it, even if they leave Alinor), and the Thalmor Invasion story line in Skyrim was dropped like a hot potato. I do not expect a direct sequel, but I do expect this to lead somewhere. And if I am right about this, I will most likely spend a long time in TES VI.

Maybe ZOS could release a DLC in the areas where TES VI takes place a while after TES VI releases, so they can benefit from the TES VI hype.
Edited by Abeille on May 15, 2016 1:39PM
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Yes, I don't think TES 6 will be able to create a world that is more alive than an MMO. I mean, you play alone there and it's fun and everything, but it's too scripted compared to an MMO experience.

Why not? The last two TES games had NPCs with schedules and day/night cycles that matter.

If anything the single-player games are 100% more immersive than MMOs.

Really depends on where ESO is at that time. I bought ESO because I always wanted to play an online version of TES. The PvP trailers and the like made it a done deal. Sadly we've been cursed with terrible developers in the ESO world.
