So when you're at your workplace, do people address you in conversation by your email address? As in, "Hey denidil@softwarecompany.com, how was that Mets game?" Because that's EXACTLY what is starting to happen in chats on the PTS. This is extremely annoying to anyone who cares about role-playing. Got any engineering solutions for that?
Casuals in /zone are not going to use the name you want to, or talk to you in the way you want no matter what you do. Stop trying to impede functionality because you don't want to have to ignore it for your play style.. My @ also happens to be chosen to be the same as the first name of all 8 of my characters so it makes zero difference to me.
My coworkers usually refer to me by name, and our email addresses can be aliased either as First.Last@EvilEmpire.com or our alias@EvilEmpire.com. Our alias is derived from our name. I have a chat addon that can optionally display Char name, @Name, or both. I have it set to both because its hard to keep track of guildies otherwise.

LOL, what "functionality" demands that random players see my username? We've been doing just fine with character names since 2014.... why change now? I have not seen one legitimate reason for usernames to be visible in this thread or anywhere.
When I signed up for an ESO during the beta, I never thought in a million years that my username would be visible above my toon. If I had known that, I would have chosen my username a lot more carefully with public exposure in mind. Making this change to the game NOW is a real pain, because I do not want to jump through whatever hoops it takes to change my usename, if it's even possible.

Again, it's been visible since the release of GamePad mode. Nobody has said anything about it until now.

Concerning the CP display, I somewhat agree with the OP.
I have wayyyyy more CP than the cap, and "elitism" is really not something I am afraid about. But why not display my played time and the amount of gold I have in my bank too while we're at it ? We went from no name plates to too-much-information in one DLC
But at least, show the CP SPENT and not won. Nobody needs to know some people are at 800-1000 CP : 501 is the max spent anyway, so like OP was saying, it will be confusing for some (a lot.....) of people.
And it would be so much more useful : I once played with a v16 who had spent NONE of his CP, because... reasons. And I was wondering why he was so bad... And when we tried to explain him that he had to spend them, well he ignored us. Yeah, those kind of people, I'd definitely avoid even for Wayrest Sewers...
You anwered your own question there.
He wasnt as good as you with all you CP points.
Perhaps that was the idea ?
Perhaps he didnt want to faceroll content.
Perhaps he felt CS was supposed to be versatility and not empowerment.
Who are you to dictate someone else build ?
Never ceases to amaze me the amount of little tyrants we have running around.
As for what's the difference between 1501 and 501? Experience someone who has that many CPs knows the game and their char

@Decado Well, you see, that's the difference. I've been playing since before CP came out and have around 600. I have never grinded. Instead, I was actually playing and learning mechanics. And I've been playing for many hours every day. If I see someone with 1500 CP, I'd know that this person spent most of his time grinding and has probably less skill and feeling for his character. You wanna see what I mean? Take a person like this to vMoL.
As far as the subject goes, I don't care too much. But I see how displaying CP can get players with 100 or 200 CP in social trouble.
Emma_Eunjung wrote: »CP is one thing, but there is NO good reason to display username. I don't know why ZOS thought it was a good idea to bring the "gamertag" issue from consoles over to the PC.
I already got called by my username once on the PTS, and I HATED it. This in an RPG, remember... what happened to role-playing? This change needs to be reverted or at least made optional.
@Rune_Relic Is it being a tyrant trying to help people ? Or is being a tyrant to expect others to drag you along ? It's like wanting to be carried in a chair by the three other teamates who do all the work while you watch...
Because that's exactly the message you are giving.
When he told another guy he had spent none of his points, I thought, okay, maybe he doesn't not know where to spend them/is afraid he can't respec, etc.
We were in the middle of a daily I usually do in 10-15 min, and I took time to stop and talk to this guy to see if I could help him. The closest of an answer I got was : "it's my character, I do as I want, and I don't want to spend them now, so f**k off"
If I had known he had spent none of his CP BEFORE the dungeon, well, I would have lost 5 minutes talking with him and seeing he didn't want to learn, I would have move along and find other people.
Instead I lost 2 hours in Darshade Caverns.
Anyway, this is going off-topic, so yeah... moving along.

So the goal of an RPG is not to improve your character ? i guess we don't have the same definition
if people want to play without cp, skills, stuff etc do it (play as you want) but play solo or with other people who play like you. i can't stand doing wayrest sewers in an hour while it's doable in 10mins that's why i'm not doing pick up group anymore.
And if you think you faceroll content just because you have 501 cp, well you'll have a surprise
if trying to improve myself and players i play with is being a tyrant....i'm proud of being one too
look at the difference between elitism and trying to improve yourself and people you play with
