Download CPU Z. So when you have issues with your game you can open that up and see where your temperatures and cores are at. You can assume it's not a heating problem but unless you actually verify it with measurable results you won't know for sure. Is your SSD almost full? If so, clean some of that off there. You could have a bottleneck with a newer CPU and your older GPU so maybe you could upgrade that next.

Also, when are you experiencing lag? What are you doing at said time? PVE or PVP? What PVP Server? Is it the Red Latency Spikes your talking about if so as that's not game but server lag and nothing can be done about that by us.

I think you should fix your caps lock key. It looks broken.

Tamriel Unlimited was a mistake. One Tamriel was a bigger mistake

I know it is not the way to use caps lock just thought it would be easier to read.

It takes a lot longer to lag out with single target than AoE.
Trying switching playstyle if your build allows it.
    or as said..
    /reloadui for a noticable improvement
Eventually you will need a restart.

I do keep /reloadui it helps a little but this jerkiness is when I am just walking along going from place to place it is very offputting.

    Many thanks

Thank you for your helpful supply, This happens when I am just walking in street, it starts to suddenly jerking as though I keep easing my finger off the key, which I am not, have checked to be sure. I am PVE only, the worst jerkiness and lag was the other day at Wayrest wayshrine. Have got the page up ready to download CPU Z The drives have plenty of room on them, I am using windows 10. not sure what red latency spikes mean?, my broadband is Virgin cable 150mbps.
Thank you so very much for taking time to help me. I am on EU Server

That means the Ping Response is high enough to cause the lag you are experiencing. The question is, where is the lag coming from?
    Nestor wrote: »
........., but is anyone latched onto your Router that is streaming video from Netflix or similar? If this is PC, have you checked for any recently installed apps that load themselves into the background that could be causing issues?

Also, there are some routers out there that just quite frankly suck, either they can't handle the bandwidth your using, or when multiple people are connected, they slow way down. First step is to kick everyone off your Wireless AP, including that pesky neighbor that is leeching off your ISP connection.

It can also be a background app that is taking focus on the CPU. Install anything recently, like maybe a new anti virus? or a media player?

Finally, it just might be the servers themselves.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Have you turned on your FPS and Latency meters in the game? It's in the settings area and shows in the bottom left corner of the game. I'm at work otherwise I would walk you through the steps to turn them on. At times when I am running around Rawlkha my Latency(Ping) jumps up and causes the stuttering your mentioning. I'm betting that's the problem more than your system setup. Play around in the UI settings and find the ones to turn on FPS and Latency, it will help give you a better idea as to what's going on. Also if you use Addons, when I first log into the game Master Merchant for me lags things up for the first few minutes and then clears up. It could be something like that as well.

..Wayrest is the capital city of Daggerfall Covernant faction, so if it is your home alliance it will be crowded and might cause you lag during daytime.
I play in AD and if I teleport to Elden Root, then I have to wait at least 1-2 minutes before I move around, otherwise I get a loadingscreen while I run about >.< it doesn't happen when I log in late at night..

Nestor--Thank you for your reply I will certainly check if my cheeky neighbour is stealing my bandwidth--woe betide him. but I don't think that's the problem but you never know- Thank you for your help I do appreciate it.

Robbmrp-Thank you for your speedy helpful reply I will turn those two meters on, I didn't realise they were available ingame, Thank you so much for your time and effort to help me , I really do appreciate it greatly.

failkiwib_ESO- Thank you for your reply it is much appreciated, makes me feel a bit easier that maybe it is not my machine.

Many thanks to all who have replied in an effort to help me, it is truly heartwarming to know there are people like you who are willing to help someone else out, cannot thank you all enough.

It is not your machine. Just go on the search bar provided here on the forums... type 'LAG' & feast your eyes.

Have you tried using 64-bit client? For me frame rate is a little higher with 64-bit exe.

Jared Carr mentioned at PAX East that if your frame rate keeps dropping low, this is likely related to the client hardware. Otherwise, if your latency is high and you experience rubber banding / unresponsive abilities / weapon swap delay etc, this is server performance issue.

PVE is significantly less demanding on your hardware than large PVP battles in Cyrodiil - I understand some areas may be more demanding than others, but with your hardware specs, you should experience generally smooth frame rate in PVE.

RL: I would rather fix the performance issues than lower the cap on the number of players in there. We’re addressing those issues right now, we’re kind of attacking it at two angles; we’re attacking it from the latency, or the server performance side, we’ve got a pretty big fix for optimisation going in for how we manage giant lists of data and target sets, to make that a lot more efficient, and then we will talk a bit about the client side and framerate issues.
JC: When we talk about performance there is a clear distinction between latency and framerate, framerate is on the client side. The first change that we made to address issues was moving strictly to DX11. We’ve had support from both DX9 and DX11 but neither were optimal because we were supporting both. That’s why we shifted to exclusively supporting the DX11, optimising that code. We do have another bugfix that’s going in on the next live push, which is May 2nd, and that is going to address the framerate issues some people have been having where you hit a low framerate and just stay there. We’re going to get some better performance on the GPU with the DX11 change and now that we’re on DX11 the client graphics engineers feel like they could now take advantage of that and do something additional, off the grid, in the future. Further, we think we can also move some processes off the CPU onto the GPU.

IcyDeadPeople --Thank you for your reply, I did try the 64-bit client some time ago when I started having problems and crashes, now I have my meters turned on ( thank you Robbmrp ) I will try it again although after the maintenance last night it does seem a bit better, my fps varies between 47-70 and latency between 50-80.
    Thank you I do appreciate

Take a look at your graphical settings, turn off or set the following to as low as possible:
    • Shadows
    • Particle settings
    • Water reflections
    • View Distance (you don't have to set this one to 0, but set it to max 35-40)
This might help you a tiny bit..

For your information this game even lags and have performance issues on really good up-to-date shiny shiny computers, in both 64-bit client and 32-bit client.

At the moment this game is heavily CPU dependant, and I heard that with the new upcomming Dark Brotherhood DLC they have tried to throw some of the load over to the GPU, to balance it and make performance for players a bit better.

Dark Brotherhood DLC is currently running on the PTS server, and will probably be released in a few months from now.
