Why are sorcs complaining so much about the shield change?

The point is that all magicka builds get a shield similar to Hardened Ward with Dampen Magic.

Sorcs will be less effective stacking shields because they only last 6 seconds.

DPS will be lower because you have to cast shields more often.

DPS will be lower because you need higher regen to be able to cast shields more often.

So whats the edge sorcs have over other magicka builds?
    Streak isnt that great anymore.
Healing from Surge is unreliable and doesnt work with half the skills.
Curse is nerfed because it no longer scales with Thaumaturge.

To summarize, sorcs got nerfed in every way possible (survivability, sustain and dmg output).

    Septimus Rulanir - Orsimer Templar

    Septimus Thragar - Dunmer Nightblade
    Septimus Jah'zar - Khajiit Nightblade
    Septimus Nerox - Redguard Warden

    OP, why do you think?
    Because its an OP skill.
    I fought a sorc today 1 vs 1 ( as a templar)
That sorc was shield stack + harness magicka+ proxy detonation like there was no tomorrow and my DMG was barley scratching him.
Its a good decision that ZOS as done to that OP class.

    Edit:
Those Sorc was able to do both offence and defence at great levels. That's imbalance.

If this was a change to try and stop shield stacking then it's a failure. From what I've read, people are still doing it in pvp just as effectively as before. The only way I can truly think of to stop shield stacking is to not let them stack.

Me personally, with Sorc as my favorite class to play, doesn't really care about the change. I'll adapt my playstyle if need be. The only thing about this change that really bothers me is not lowering the cost along with the shortened shield time.

Makes me wonder if ZOS's idea to nerf shield stacking in PVP is to deplete a sorc's resources faster.
I want to change the world. I'm just to lazy to do it.

So, you aren't good at PvP and believe crippling a class in PvE is the answer. The only thing in Cyrodiil that's OP is "inexperience and whining". Hate to say it, but LEARN to PLAY in PvP properly. You have interrupts, CC, Shattering Blows - if you can't win all of that, then you need to practice or go back to the drawing board with your build. Destroying an entire class in PvE just because you can't play correctly isn't the answer. I have bad news for you: Nerfing the shield won't fix anything in PvP - you'll still get walled by stacked shields and CC'd to death. Learn to play your class, or stop playing PvP.

Here's the deal: you're in Cyro. You come across an enemy player (or players). You fight. You might win, you might lose. But that's the nature of pvp.

Let me stop you right there. This isn't about PvP. I couldn't care less about Cyrodiil. The shield nerf destroys the sorcerer class in PvE. That's what why we are complaining. How about you drop the inflated, immature PvP ego and realize this game isn't about you. The vast majority of sorc players enjoy playing with their friends in PvE and don't fancy having some kid whine about some mode in the game that causes others to lose the ability to effectively use their class for the other 90% of their game. Some of us only have time for 1 main character (because we have a life and don't vegetate on someone else's sofa) and see this nerf as a big "GAME OVER - THANKS FOR PLAYING" sign.

Having no shield means a drastic loss of DPS, a depletion of resources on healers to keep their more fragile team alive through a needlessly longer boss fight, and a massive strain on tanks to keep literally EVERYTHING off of sorcs, lest they die to single attack.

The shield is to soak up chip damage from adds because any boss damage plus that add damage is lethal. Healers heal sorcs through a newly deployed shield from taking any damage that bled through the previous shield. Sorcs continue their dps rotations, only shielding when hit by an add. With the new change, a sorc can only DPS for a few seconds and then has to use resources/time to reapply a shield. If a sorc gets CC'd, they are dead - period, because the shield duration will kill them before they can reapply it.

Think before you post next time.

So your saying that you used ward as a crutch in group play and now if you get touched your going to die? All the other dps seem to be fine without a 20k shield. Why is it suddenly the sorc class is ruined because they don't have 20 seconds of shield?

I think sorc will be fine. Plenty of good players out there who will still make the sorc class shine.

    /facepalm

You are only looking at this from a DPS sorc point of view. Not any other spec. News flash, there are Sorc healers.
    OH EM GEE!!!

Yeah those guys are getting ***. They rely on their pets for heals. So the one spec that really needs those pets to stay alive not for DPS, but HEALS, requires conjured Ward... which is now 6 sec... alone with Healing ward. This causes a problem.

Shields are needed even less in PvE than PvP, so any change to shields should have a generally negligible effect on PvE-related play.

that is not inherently true. it depends on the individual playstyle.

Regardless of playstyle, you should be relying on your healer to keep you alive and your mana bar full. Anything less is a DPS loss.

I really hate that mindset. and thank god i don't adhere to it otherwise the majority of pug groups i had run with would have ended in utter failure.

I don't and won't play any of my characters/classes like that.

Typical trash response, but perhaps I can educate you. Sorcerers use Light Armor - they have practically no defense - save for that shield, which effectively functions as their health bar. They have no other feasible skills that reduce damage outside of that shield. Templars and Dragonknights have damage mitigation abilities, while the Nightblade has cloak. The sorc has shields - that's the circle of life.

There is no "crutch", kid. PvE doesn't hurt anyone and thus nerfing the shield does nothing but hurt players.

Lowering shield duration isn't the solution for PvP (stacking still exists and prevents crits) and there isn't any issue in PvE with shields. The only people in favor of the shield nerf are:
    - People who don't play the sorc class.
    - People who play mostly PvP and don't understand the combat math involving shields.
    - People who are butthurt children that don't like losing to anything in PvP.

As a Sorc I have to agree with the person you're responding to. Shields don't really affect PvE outside of vMA if you're any good at the class and your healer has half of a brain.

Personally, I'm reserving judgement on the shield decrease until it actually lands. At first glance Im not happy they had to "tinker" but I will work with it and see if it really even changes my play style. LOVE my Sorc. She's got about 3k hours on her but she's my first. And I use her shield. Never was into stacking in PVE or PVP.
Rebuffing every 6 seconds when feared, snared, stunned....for 2-3 seconds? That shield feels too short. So we shall see...

However, my main concern is the bad word of mouth already creeping around causing newer players on (xbone) console to consider quitting their Sorcs for now-they are players still learning mechanics of their class and the game/dungeons and trials.
Yes, Shields=Life to a Sorc. And in their case? It IS a straight up unembarrassed, unashamed L2P issue. They want a shield they can count on for more than a few seconds during new player panic. It's a shame they're going to have to L2P with less than all of us received when we were learning the mechanics.

Shields don't really affect PVE outside of vMA, what about when you are in vMA? Sorcs are down now let's face it.

Yes in trash battles played right, I have to re apply shields more often than 6 secs however due to me gaining alot of aggro, small adds with a boss: ward saves alot of wipes. In vMA it will now be more viable to play with pretty much any other class due to self heals being more reliable and to be honest I really can't be bothered with leveling another character. I have a healer, tank two dps (one stam and one mag) I love my sorc it is by far my favourite character to play on.

Also in group dungeons. People make mistakes and die on bosses, oh with my shields up I MIGHT be able to res them and therefore stopping a wipe. With this nerfing that will no longer be the case there will be no might about it, it's a definite no.

    Let's look at this:
Magicka DK - reliable self heals and damage mitigation and CC
Magicka NB - stealth and reliable self heals
Magicka templar - insane self heals
    Magicka sorc - shields.

Nerfing sorcs survivability is not the way to make pve more fun. And in pvp shields are easily negated. Shield breaker 5 piece with weighted bow = gg for most average sorcs. But tbh I have had numerous 1v1s where their dps was so high they seemed to eat my shields for breakfast. If people learned their class before moaning about another then this would never have happened.

As for vMA, goodluck for a new player learning that on a sorc now

Even though this change doesn't bother my sorc build. I do feel some empathy for those of you that use shields for your build. Nobody should be saying their play style is better than others or that others are just doing it wrong.

Play how you want my arse. Play how everyone thinks you should play is more like it.

I'm sure most can adapt and develop a new rotation. That doesn't mean you should have to.
