(Console) How do you communicate?!

Unfortunately I don't communicate. I gave up on the headset long ago unless in groups. For those that are saying "just get in a guild", sure you can communicate with 10-20 people at any given time, but what about the other 100 on average that are online but not in chat? Also how do you communicate when several people are all having conversations at once? Zone chat? Nope.

The only time I use voice is in groups, where voice is the preferred (and rightly so) method of communication.

No sir, at the present time there is no efficient way to communicate. Luckily the devs heard our plea and are instating text chat this year.

I think it depends on what guilds you join and the friends we make. Even on MMOs we get social grouping instead of a wider community. My advice to social people on this game would be to get in a few good guilds/start your own and develop a good group of buddies to do things like daily dungeons and trials. Most guilds will announce days/times of group events that we can join and going in guildchat is also a good way of organising group ups yourself. I find that the most social players spend a lot of time in guildchat and they are up for anything if you ask them. Not everyone wants to talk to randoms all the time.

But seriously, all you have is either to join a guild and use guild chat or find some friends and use group chat. Area chat is a NO GO.

Area chat is a nightmare full of:
-Too many people talking at once
-Massive use of vulgar language (you know, they say that vulgarity in place of genuine humor is a sign of lesser intelligence)
-Speaking of humor, there is none. There is a load of outdated jokes and jokes that have been beaten dead.
-Trolls. We all love them, am I right? ("Can someone help me do this daily?" Response - "I'll help you do your...." well you know where I am going with this.)
-Squeakers, this game is rated M for Mature. Why? How? Stop buying them these games parents.

For now, I'll be hiding in guild chat. Cowering in fear and hoping that those area chat ruffians don't find me.

I rarely use the mic. Only with friends really. If playing with randoms, group PvE or PvP, I use emotes and just play well enough to where they know it would be a mistake to drop me

Happens a lot of times w/ PUGs..

Group Leader: "Yo Don, you don't got a mic."
Me: Emote /No
Group Leader: "I'm totally kicking him after the second boss guys (Vet CoA)."
*other two members agree*
*We reach the second boss (Horvuntad), they wipe in 30sec, I proceed to solo the boss*
Group Leader: "OMG yo Don can you tell me your build and like what you're doing? I'm so friending this dude guys wow."

If you've got the skill you honestly don't need to use your mic.

I use my mic but most people don't it seems. Most players I meet out and about won't respond to emotes and are nearly impossible to contact with live chat before they have disappeared halfway across the map. I won't blindly invite people either because I hate it when people do it to me.

I talk to people who are already talking about something that intrest me. As far as talking to strangers who are not already talking, it's nearly impossible. Console text chat can't get here fast enough imo.

I rarely communicate as area chat is terrible on console but when I'm looking for something I'll turn it on in town and ask around groups of players.

I recently joined a guild that has an active guild chat but I haven't joined the convo yet...don't really care to talk to strangers when I play late at night. I feel bad as the leader seems like a pretty cool girl and both she and another member has asked me to join the group but I'm like "sorry, too busy crafting"

I have never used the mic to contact someone but then hardly ever hear any chat in area chat.....don't know if my headphones (!) or that ps4 EU is very quiet. Do belong to 2 guilds but not many seem to be online/in my area - and quite shy to go up & speak to just start talking to people in game.

Just how is text chat on consoles going to work any faster than messaging through psn system? Still wont have a keyboard to type on properly.

Then get one. A USB keyboard is incredibly cheap nowadays. I'm sure you could even find one at a yard sale for a buck

I slot them but usually it's emotes like clap, thumbs up or the sexy dance

I mainly use my puke emote help people know i'm about to quit the group.

Closing on max CP not a lot of communication needed to shred vet dungeons with decent people.

I have been called the worst group leader in pvp many times mostly because I do not use a mic but constantly lead a pug of 20.

We play follow the zerg, not that hard to figure out.

I just use emotes in front of people. If I need help with a world boss I just run arround with "Attack the boss" on top of my head, some people run around with a "heal me" on top of their characters, they die, and I use the "Im sorry" emote because I am a templar.

I use my headset too from time to time, but then I just hear men burping because they expect nobody to even listen to them, but I do, I listen to all of you, secretly MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

@Asherons_Call - did not even know that was a thing (yep that tech savvy). Shall look for one now as hate one finger typing like doing now my phone.

Do have emotes slotted but whenever have been in situation when want to say thanks or whatever, its still slow & the other person is usually looking at their map/rumminging in their bags so dont see....

I guess I will have to look for a new guild that has active comrades! Or try the crouch/stand morse code as someone suggested.

I also just realized that by default when I join a group in a random dungeon, my voice chat is turned off.

I cant communicate because there is no chat box and I dont care for VC, too many inconsiderate people and lots of cheap mics so I just get a headache most of the time.

Really don't get the need for text chat at all, gunna be clunky to use and surely you are just spamming the people that didn't want to talk to you on voice chat anyway. Don't get it!

Joining a guild, and chatting with the people that want to chat when it's relevant I.E. One channel for PvP one for PvE etc I don't see the problem with. Plus Xbox messaging for anyone say the GM that I want to talk to offline via smart glass.

If chat comes I 100% hope it's a toggle as it's just spammable wasted screen real estate for me. But each to their own.

ALL the above was fixed for me joining the right guilds. I don't see how spamming area text chat would help over that.

Im a pc player for 2 years.Got to play on console for a week.In the whole week never heard someone speaking and i had voice chat on.Very little global communication.Specially compared to pc.Random groups were a frustration some times due to no communication.Console needs a text chat so bad.

everyone uses area chat on ps4/NA. Between area chat, group chat for dungeons and guild chat for PvP people seem to have no troubles communicating. I just wish we had text chat too for the people that (for whatever reason) can not or do not use chats. I know one of the best PvP guys I know just had brain surgery and can not talk well so he just listens in chat and sends messages if he has something to say. It would be much easier for him to use text chat in game instead of going back to the PSN menu every time he wants to communicate
