New Motifs

So the trend with new Motifs has me a little concerned.

With DB we are getting 3 new motifs, 1 that comes from Delves and Bosses in Gold Coast a la Outlaw, and 2 from TG content, specifically Heists and Tip Board. We saw something similar to this with the Malacath, Trinimac, and Alliance motifs last patch. I foresee this as the standard going forward, and I am sure I will not be able to convince you to change your minds, but I must try anyways.

I understand that you need to offer incentives for players to keep going back to older DLC, but doing so through these channels is not very nice to your players who have done all of this content already. I loathed having to go back to do delve and boss dalies in Wrothgar and chests in Cryodiil/IC; and I do not look forward to doing hundreds of Tips and dozens of hiests, especially after I have done so many already. The content that you chose to put these motifs behind is and was the worst, most repetitive and time-consuming grinds of their respective DLC's.

I would suggest that they perhaps be tied to something that is a little more friendly to players who have done the content to completion already, like completing certain quests within the DLC's, or just found by killing mobs/elite mobs in the DLC's. Alliance motifs would do well to drop from Roaming Horrors and Xyvkin Elite, and Trinimac/Malacath would do well to drop from Wrothgar delve/world bosses and mobs, respectively. I would put Abah's Watch pages on Abah's Landing guards, that need to be pickpocketed, and I would put The new Thieves Guild pages in one of the following places: Tie it to TG main and side quests, put them in chests/lockboxes in Hew's Bane, put them on any non-guard innocents to be pickpocketed in Abah's Landing, put them in owned containers and abandoned backpacks found throughout Hew's Bane, or put them on overworld NPCs like Haj Mota.

Recap: Motifs should not be locked behind a daily quest. If I want to binge-play and grind the whole thing, I should be able to. Put them somewhere that encourages us to go out and explore the content of the DLC, not just the boring repeatable stuff.

Agreed. The dailies are fine at first then mind-numbingly boring. I am sick of collecting harpy eggs and still not near a complete set of Trinimac pages.

OTOH, they may have found a cure for my motif collection habit. I am not doing the Thieves' Guild dailies, period.

I actually like that they encourage going back to other regions and DLC, but I do understand and agree with your feelings.

I think that the problem is not the act of encouraging going back by adding new rewards to these places but the ways of getting the rewards themselves.

Going back for the Trinimac/Malacath motifs is hideous not because you have to run dailies again (after running them so much) but because you have no guarantee whatsoever that you'll be rewarded for your efforts. You're literally, once again, stuck in daily farming based on the blessings of RNGesus.

If drops occurred far more often or at least they came in the form of some sort of currency instead of the pages themselves... and then you can use that currency to get the pages you need, without having to depend so much in luck and repetition... I'm sure these concerns would be smaller if not non-existant.

So I guess that's it. It's about having no guarantees, it's about knowing that you might farm for weeks and get 2 pages.

But we all know why this is so, right? I mean...
The motif is also offered on your nearest neighborhood crown store, after all :)

Yes, I feel that purchasing or trading for motif pages undermines the whole point of collecting them. As such, I farm each page myself. It took 30 days of doing delve dailies on 7 characters to complete trinimac, and I have still not completed Malacath doing about 10 boss dailies each day. I spent a solid 3 weeks grinding the Alliance motifs on my main and 2 lowbie alts, 1 in each other alliance.
This is too much time spent, and none of that time spent was actually enjoying the content or even exploring more than a few acres of land. It misses the point of returning to the content to experience it again. It forces you to re-experience what I consider the worst parts of that content.

I'm going to disagree with OP simply because they are introducing motifs that wouldn't make sense lore wise being elsewhere. There is no reason for Malacath and Trinimac to be in Hew's Bane, and there is no reason for a Thieve's Guild motif to not be in the Thieve's Guild.

You missed my point entirely. Please re-read each word I wrote carefully, and I do not mean that in a smug way. I explained everything very carefully and you missed it.

Edit: On second thought, I would add that I specifically mean wrothgar to the op, but I do not think I can edit it.

Edit 2: NM figured it out.

I don't have to much of an issue with this new trend, plus it provides incentives to complete old DLC content which makes sense.

HOWEVER, the drop rate must be 100%. It should not be torture to get these motifs, and the market price should be driven down as a direct result too.

    Keeps people in the zones.

    Keeps older content relevant.

I prefer this and thinks it's actually quite smart.

    Agree and disagree.

A chance at a motif page should encourage players to go out and explore the content of the DLC ... and not spend three weeks of dailies on eight characters to collect all the Trinimac pages. I get it.

I don't like the idea of motifs dropping from mobs and world bosses like decon trash ... or simply completing quests. There has to be a better, more creative, way.
