Why Do I Sub? Also, Why Do You Sub?

If you thought this was that other kind of sub discussion, please move along post haste, maybe check the roleplaying forums. Not judging, mind you, just don't want to get thread locked over a misunderstanding.

This is about ESO subscriptions, those who do them and why they do.

Threads around here seem to have OP and responders each putting forth their own thoughts on what motivates people to subscribe, often with rather overt biases.

So i thought I would explain why i sub and what motivates me to sub.

I would also ASK other CURRENT subscribers to post their own reasons IF THEY FEEL SO INCLINED.

"But, STEVIL, where is the poll so i can click?"
Sorry but when it boils down to brass tacks, polls seem to be more misinformative around here than informative bc they fracture complex issues into EITHER/OR oversimplified and biased selections.

So, describe your motivations and reasons, in like words and sentences, to whatever degree of specificity you wish.

WHY DOES STEVIL SUBSCRIBE?

"Hi there. my name is Stevil and i have been subbing ever since ESO went online."

I have been on this planet in my current lifeform for over 5 decades. So i am not a creature born of the "what i want should be free" generation that was born after a Clinton took the white house. I believe in a fundamental principle of reality that if i am getting something I want, something i enjoy, i SHOULD regard those providing it appropriately. its a core part of my being. I understand that when i do that, i encourage those providers to do more of what i want, to stay in business, etc. While i do have to make value-benefit decisions about what to invest my time and money, paying for what i enjoy as long as it is at a satisfactory price point is just "the way things work."

I know there are a lot of "free" things out there now too. I also know and believe what the head of google said (paraphrased) "If you aren't paying for a service, YOU (you info, your ad exposure) are the payment."

With ESO, for 2 years for me, but lets talk since the free changeover went in, the sub benefits of faster this or that are ok but haven't really been a significant factor. The crafting bag WILL BE NICE and heck yeah i want it so no complaints, but all these do is shift slightly the value-cost analysis part for "do i spend my time playing ESO" not whether or not i subscribe. Same with the crowns - tho the crowns really shift the value-cost calculation.

the bags mean i will spend a little less time on ESO doing "paperwork" instead of playing and that to me is a major thing and which makes it more fun.

So, to ESO/ZOS et al, you keep producing great PVE content and a wonderful mostly crit-bug free game and i will sub.

But, hey, dont take this as me saying i dont appreciate the bennies too.
I am human after all, and sentient most days.

That's me.

How about the rest of you current subs?

Hoping not to disturb anyone i'dwant to add my reasons for NOT subbing.

I'm not against subbing to games and i totally understand people that do that.. but I myself am an "old" kind of player... from the era when you actually did buy a game once and you had it and could play it all the time you wanted even years later.

So well.. my "gaming mind" is built to think like that and i just can't force myself into a subscription based model that to me is like "renting" agame instead of buying... or that in the case of a B2P game like ESO compares to "buying a game BUT having to rent the content every month.

I know that even if i only buy the game and ZOS decides to shut the servers then it's a loss but it still is the closest model to an old "buy once play forever" kind of thing ^^

Not saying it's right or wrong.. just stating my personal reasons :)

I've been subbing for about 4 months after missing both DLCs (wrothgar and IC) because I wasn't playing the game. And it worked out cheaper to sub than buy the DLCs outright. I'll carry on subbing until I can buy the DLCs through the "free crowns" from the sub benefits.

I sub to support the game.

I cancelled once, to show Zenimax how displeased I was with a decision they made. Zenimax, via Gina Bruno, assured me the matter would be fixed and so I resubbed. Since I was able to resub before my original sub had ended, I continue with an unbroken, 2 year sub.

The thing is: No one makes me pay. This isn't a Beijing street market and I'm not looking for a bargain. I pay because I want to show support for the game. Over the time the game has been B2P, I've accumulated enough crowns to purchase the DLC. I still sub.

I use to sub because I always subbed in PC and when moving to Xbox one it made sense as I got crowns and access to doc that I didn't have to buy BUT because ZOS can't figure out how to give me crowns I stopped.

It's not to support the game or anything, it's to play the game and DLC. I've purchased all DLC via crowns now and still have a chunk left so I doubt I'll ever sub again due to the crowns issues and customer service fights of over 40 emails.

I sub to support the game, and because I love Elder Scolls.

This game has provided me with over 1400 hours of entertainment so far. I choose to pay for that entertainment, because to me £8.99 a month is a negligible amount. I could spend that on two whiskies in a bar.

Not regretted one single payment, and I am swimming in more crowns than I know what to spend them on.

I have always preferred to pay sub, and I sometimes buy crowns to buy a costume or two that I will never use.

The only DLC I have played through the content is Imperial City DLC, and even there I haven't finished the quest in ICP dungeon. I have enjoyed going to Wrothgar to see the dwemer public dungeon, because it was beautiful - never bothered with the quest.

I care for my guilds and friends - however I am beginning to see the end of the tunnel for endgame and progression though, because unless I do dungeons and delves with utter noobs and lowbies from my guild, then the content is a cakewalk. Beside vMOL there is nothing new or good for 4mans content, and the 3 already nerfed "hard" dungeons are going to be further nerfed :/

I've been paying a sub to one mmo or another(or multiple ones at the same time) for over a decade. To me, the hours of entertainment I get from them is worth well more than $15/mth.

So as I said in another thread, I don't analyze a game to figure out the most gain for the least price. If I'm enjoying the game, I sub. If I'm tired of it, I stop subbing, and stop playing.

I generally only have a max of 2 going at a time. I find even if I have multiple ones going I'll still spend 80% on my time on one. So the other is usually a game I'm not doing too much in, like only logging in to do 30mins of dailies, or to help a friend with something.

I have worked on games and know how much work is involved if I play a game I like, I'll pay the sub. Until society moves to a resource based economy, everyone deserves to get paid for the work they do.

From concept to 3D modellers, animators, programmers, artists, writers, voice actors, audio techs, server techs, marketing, web developers/designers, customer service, Q&A testers and management there is a lot of work in a game of this size and still you get he whiners who think everything can be fixed by a flick of a switch or a quick moan on the forums.

I pay so all those people can continue to work to make the game better, I appreciate the difficulties they have and I love the game.
