Your ESO burnout kit

No matter how much you like a game, or some part of a game, there are times when you may nonetheless hit a point where you just get frustrated, bored, or otherwise in need of a break. This is natural, and changing things up or getting away for a while can refresh your perspective and recharge your batteries. In-game this might mean switching from PvE to PvP for a while (or vice versa), trading dungeons and trials for crafting or looking for trophies, changing roles on your character, changing or creating new characters, etc. Out-of-game might mean playing something else for a while, or getting into some other non-game hobby, or what have you.

When you get burned out, do you have something you can swap to in order to get a break and come back a day, week, month, etc later with a renewed enthusiasm? What do you like to do when you are ready for a change of pace?

I find that such changes keep me coming back, rather than just getting to total burnout and quitting for good, and I'm sure at least a few of your have had similar experiences.

I burned out doing/starting Cadwells gold a couple weeks ago.

Can't stomach logging back into play. With overwatch near the horizon it's been tough.

I log in once in a couple days to "feed" the stupid fracking horse but even that is a chore.

I swap between PvP and PvE for such burnouts.
Fight in PvP for weeks. Eventually, feel the need for a break. Go to PvE and quest and do dungeons for weeks.

    I recommend Fallout 4.
Nothing like hacking and slashing, thieving and sneaking till I get bored then,
Fallout 4 = bullets, bombs, sniper sights, mutants, settlement building then when I get bored of that.....swap back.
    Rinse and repeat.

I've felt like that, but think of the fun factor like an ability with a cool-down which varies from person to person or from season to season. Right after IC dropped I just had to stop ESO for a while and I think I was out for, hmm, 4-5 weeks? Not sure. Maybe 6. Logged back in for some reason I can't remember, didn't expect anything to be different, but it just felt less stale. I think it's worse when people somehow feel obligated to log in even when they've stopped having a good time, it means the fun factor for ESO is on cool-down and you have to try something else until it recharges.

I will log in and just hang out in starter city, (Davon's Watch in my case), and just play my lute and help out new players with questions and stuff. Or I will "go fishing" and just enjoy the landscapes and great music the game has. Being a GM means being on at least a "X" amount of time, so these are some of my "burn-out cures".
Also just hanging out with guildies in Ts and filling those little achievements you forgot about.

Once upon a time, there was this game called: Starwars Galaxies...
    Burnout? Please.
Even with those of us folk who were younger then (now 13 years ago) and who had no lives, still dumped thousands of hours into that game without any end in sight.
    Why?
    Because, options!
We could craft, grind, quest, farm, pvp, Quest in Space, Farm in Space, PVP in Space, build our own homes, cities, land-vehicles, spaceships, and decorate their interiors without restraint and scant limits.

Whats more, we could do this on almost all the separate planets, as we werent restricted to doing those things on merely one world alone.

The game was built upon options, and did come with its fair share of quirks due to clever player engineering, but it was arguably never dull or boring.

    Why did so many quit?
Because the developers !@#$'ed it up, par usual with most game developers.

ESO has the"potential" (I hate that word) to be a game that should never grow dull or boring.
To accomplish this however, the developers need to step up their game by an order of magnitude.
That requires funding, which apparently they dont have enough of, or are unwilling to invest.

Boredom is not the fault of the player, its the fault of the game-master(s) (developers and "Managers").

A lot of video game players treat their bodies like ***, destroy their metabolisms, and then wonder why they're so short-tempered and irritable all the time. And then they get pissed off at the game, get stressed out, and *** up their metabolisms even more.

It's funny, really, how people create their own problems...

This is true with every MMO, which is why the game developers keep coming up with poorly designed excuses for you to be there, with excellent rewards. These event-grinds are the opposite of fun but they bait people back for the rewards. Eventually, a player realizes they are growing to hate the game, and hate the developers for this nonsense, and they just quit showing up. I understand a game designer's desire to keep the player base, but I am convinced that the best way for them to do that is to give up some of the creative design to the player. I'm not talking about a narrowly defined mission-creator with weak toolset (like STO has, which at one point was better til they gutted the hell out of it). No I'm talking about something like Galaxies had with so many varieties of activities it gave you a reason to play depending on a wide variety of moods. No game will sink a person all the time, but the more INTERESTING things it has for something to do with a wide enough variety, the better. Either way, I'm not a big fan of the crappy event for uber rewards system that a lot of MMO's do, and I really hope ESO doesn't go that road.

I got this burnout several months ago when I had over 5k hours /played. Yes, no typo there.
Ever since, I login every few days (nowadays everyday again for a short time) to sell all the materials and other stuff I gathered over the last 2 years, except for a few mats which I still might need when I actually start playing again in terms of combat/questing etc. It's almost sold out now, a TON of gold in the bank, but I'm still burned out. It's not that I don't want to play anymore, I even still buy a new pet every now and then. It's a great game and I do want to return, but I can't just yet.

What I did in the meantime was f.e. returning to Skyrim, and today I played Morrowind for a couple of hours; these games (and Oblivion) I played a lot in the past as well and I started to miss them now. But I don't play as many hours anymore each day as I used to, and some days I don't play any games at all. It's a necessary break (or, "break") which I had to take.

What I do when I don't play games are things that came way too short when I was hooked on ESO, but I don't want to go into detail at the moment.

Anyway, it was not just the game that "burned me out", it was life that burned me out, including the game, including everything else that happened at that time. Now I'm about to "get up" again and start fresh, so to say.

I use to get burnt out with a lot of things I did. Mostly because I was putting way too much time in to them, in such a short time frame.
Girls, motorcycles, video games, parties, concerts whatever..
I find that if I limit how much time I spend on one activity, that particular activity stays interesting for a longer period of time AND I don't get the bored feeling.

Maybe chill out on video games for a bit? Being burnt out by a video game isn't really a good thing.

Go on those half off deal sites and pick a random thing to do. Meet new people, see new places, get some sun, etc...

I tend to move in cycles between gaming, reading, and watching movies. When I'm getting a little burned out on one I'll pick up another for a while. I'll also sometimes move to another game for a bit, but I only allow myself one paid subscription at a time - so I either choose a single player game, sub to a different game for a bit, or I go to one of my free or lifetime membership ones.

I also like to bike, hike, and/or spend some time learning something - which gets me away from all three of the above and helps prevent true burnout.

The devs should really take not of the star wars galaxies point. One of my biggest sources oh burnout for this game is how involved trying to experiment gets. It's such a huge grind that is mind numbing. Want to try dk? New toon, temp? New toon, blah blah, and let's be honest, if you want a true feel for your build, even if you have a v16 dk stam, but want to play magica, you'll probably have to make a new toon. It's like the devs hate thelrycrafting. I can't count the times I've invested time developing a new toon and was disappointed in the build and was extremely frustrated that it took weeks of investment to find out.
