Veteran Ranks?

I just saw in the Dark Brotherhood post that part of the patch is to remove Veteran ranks... So, what exactly does that mean for Vet level characters people already have, and things like equipment (swords etc) and resources (potions, runes etc)?

You will still be able to equip and use everything you can today, but some of your alts might get access to new tiers of gear and consumables as well.

A little context here before this gets too out of hand…We’re still working on the system – nothing is finalized.(which is why we’re not really talking much about it yet)The intention is that once you hit 50, champion points take over. Veteran Ranks are completely removed. When Veteran Ranks are removed, we will convert any Veteran Ranks on your highest character into CP.To get a rough idea of balance - think of 10CP = 1 VR. (so 160 CP will roughly = VR16)
Additional Details:We’re planning on giving 2.5 CP for every VR level you’ve earned on your highest level character. (40 for a VR16 character)When the conversion happens, any player with CP less than their old veteran rank * 10 will instead be given enough CP such that their total is VR * 10. For example: A player is VR14 with 75 CP, they will be given 65 CP (140-75) instead of 40, so that they can still equip any gear they may have.We will make sure the 16 attribute picks you got from VR1 to VR16 will carry over. (current plan is an achievement that goes up in 10 CP increments until 160)
Keep in mind that none of the stuff above is 100% locked in. We're still implementing the feature - things are subject to change. It's important that everyone understands they are not suddenly going to have to have 501 CP in order to equip the top level gear. We will introduce new gear, with higher CP requirements sometime in the future, but we won't be making huge jumps. (i.e. - we won't go from 160 to 400 suddenly)

Once we finalize the system and lock in more of the details, we will discuss things in more detail and answer questions."

My question? What about those level 16 Skill points? Will players that are not v16 still be able to get them or will they be gimped?

I thought the initial reason people wanted Veteran Ranks removed was because of the grind. So now we just grind CP...real nice

they're adding the skillpoints u normally get from vr1-16 into the level 1-50, so you'll get the same amount of skillpoints going from 1-50 that you'd have gotten going from level 1 al the way to vr16 :)

That is only true for your first character. Once you have one vr16 character and/or 160+CP you only have to level all other characters on the same account to lvl50 to be able to equip top level gear.

Wow... they call that explaining things? It left me even more confused, lol.

Why don't they just let people carry on levelling as normal, like V1 = lvl 51, V16 = lvl 66 etc... then past that to earn more skill points etc with no lvl cap? I think it would motivate people to keep playing if you had something to aim for.

But.. as long as it doesn't ruin my characters, I don't mind what they do tbh.

Myself and many others have suggested removing Vet ranks and replacing them with just a standard max level (IE, 51, 52, 53 etc) which has been shot down as a bad idea by other forum users. Not sure why it makes a difference, it would be the more logical thing to do rather than capping the levels at 50.

Truth is, most of us don't have much of a clue as to what ZOS plans are eventually. We were told a long time ago that VR ranks were being removed, but instead of being removed they got max VR boosted from VR14 to VR16!

Then, the theives guild DLC came out earlier this year, in which ZOS said that's when they're removing VR levels, the DLC came in, VR levels stayed. It's confusing a lot of players and I can imagine will be deterring a few people from playing the game. They should have had a level structure from the start and stuck to it.

The best of the bad options IMO is to just keep VR levels, doesn't make a lot of difference to me really. But Level 50 is super easy to get to, after that there isn't much incentive to continue only Caldwell's Silver/Gold or continue boosting your character if the only difference you see is some scrappy CP points.

If there are CP requirements for gear, then why remove the veteran ranks at all? Will the CP points you have affect the experience you get in Silver/Gold zones? VR levels gave you ability points from VR1 to VR16. Those will be gone now? Or will there be CP 'levels' that will give you the equivalent?

That line pertaining to gear leaves me scratching my head thinking that nothing is changing other than you won't have a level by your name when you reach lvl 50, and you can use Champion Points on trees.. just like we do now.

Its only so an alt doesn't take nearly as long to level..

Exactly, nothing changes except alts are easier to level.

Ok, here is a question: How do you know? and what levels do you get the extra 16 points? First off 16 skill points is to much for a starting characters.

I do not understand why they are changing this. It does not matter in PvP. There is no difference in PvP since everyone is advanced based on items worn reflection v16 armor. Vellow level 20 become yellow level v16, food does too. So there is not change other than cosmetic design.

Besides I made vr16 in 1 week of quest grinding 2 zones a day. I was v16 before i finish Cadwell's gold. V10 was the start of second realm.

Personally I think VR should stay because we are not WoW.

We know because the creative director of the game said as much on these very forums. Also, it's 15 points, and the last we heard you'd get 2 points every level ending in 5 (5/15/...) and 3 points every level ending in 0 (10/20/...).

I'm happy that you could grind out a v16. Turns out a lot of us that have been around for awhile think doing such is kinda boring, and ZOS agrees.

Yeah, I grinded out a Vet 16 and literally within a couple of days of getting there the first talk came about of getting rid of Vet ranks... I was like, after all that work? WTF!?

I've never bothered grinding a character since, my highest lvl alt is 45.

Well you know that work was not wasted or anything. That character will still be max level, have all the same attribute and skill points, the same skill progression, etc. What's more, you don't have to do it again if you don't want to. Get those last 5 levels on your next highest character and they will start getting max-level gear drops as well.

    Adios VR grinding.
