explination of how poisons will work?

ok so... are they like consumable buffs that add bonus damage to weapons similar to enchants? (would be weird on magical weapons) or are they enchant style? i'm confuzzled

There is already poison enchants on weapons, i personally use one on my staff. it could just be a PvE option for killing NPCs like the intimidation passive. Not sure though, im a bit curious too

You shoot a bad guy in the knee, and then the poison rides the circulatory system until it reaches the heart, and then the poison shoots the heart in the knee.

Now picture it with Monty Python animations and sound...

it will probably be similar to when you had to try to assassinate someone in the old Elder Scrolls game...you will craft a poison potion (so Alchemy skill line) and place the bottle in their pocket or empty it on their food without being caught...stand back and watch the fool die in agony...then go back happily to collect your reward for being a <insert word here>

Kind of vague. Could be a weapon sort of enchantment, could be just potions that you make to kill a quest objective (limited use). Could be anything TBH.

I used poisons in many ways in Oblivion and Skyrim. My favorite in Skyrim was "slow" poison, which can be made in ESO as well. In skyrim you used it like that - you created a potion of "slow" - and you could use it either on the next shot with a bow or the next attack with a weapon - it is a one-time usage, but it applies the specific poison effect to the target.

So "slow" was pretty good to make your enemy act at half-speed - which basically made you twice as fast compared to him. A huge advantage - and when used with a bow, that target took twice as long to get near to you, so you could spike it with lots of arrows before it came even near to you. Quite useful on a bow as well.

Edit: in skyrim it was as well very easy to make and you could do it with or without additional damage - like salt and river betty, or salt and death bell = slow only - but river betty and death bell = slow and damage.

I will go wih the short buff to weapon attacks. Something like a 3-5 minutes buff that you are supposed to pop for hard encounters. That's what I'd like.

It's probably going to be similar to how it was in TESV: Skyrim. You craft a bottle of poison with Alchemy, then coat your blade or arrow with it. I don't know how it would work for Staves since those have never really played a big role in TES games before so it's new territory.

So if you have a staff you can't use poison?

That was in Skyrim this way - it had to be either a melee weapon or a bow. - something what can physically apply the poison to the target - in the case of the bow that is the poisoned arrow. You don't have a projectile to be poisoned with a staff.

A staff does not have a projectile like a bow - the arrow - so nothing what could transmit the poison physically.

Another use of poison in Oblivion and Skyrim was with reverse-pickpocketing. Instead to steal from someone you put that poison into his inventory. In Oblivion you had to wait until this character was thirsty and drank the poison or ate a poisoned apple, in Skyrim they drank that immediately - you could kill rather quick this way, if you did not want to use your twin-blades.

Burden poison was really cool in Oblivion - used on bows, you added weight to the target until it cannot move anymore and is nailed to the ground - could be easily made from nearly everything you found with at least 50 skill points in alchemy, iirc. And then you used the enemy as practice target

Poisons have been baked into the game since the beginning, and were part of Alchemy.

Im having hard time to believe its something major, my guess its something what you need to do during DB story line.

I'd be awesome though if they let us choose between Enchantments or Poisons.

I imagine something like the following:

One-Attack-Poisons:
The next light/heavy attack hit will deal a big amount of damage/damage over time effect, based on Substance used. X seconds cooldown

Multiple-Attack-Poisons:
Light/heavy attacks in the next 20 seconds will deal X extra damage, based on Substance used.
(Working similar to the undaunted unweaver 5pc bonus)

Kinds of Substances you can apply:
- Flame Damage (made from fire salts)
- Frost Damage (made from Frost salts)
- Shock Damage (made from void salts)
- Poison Damage (snakes?)
- Disease Damage
- Knockdown
- Off-balance

Additional to above effects, possibly
- minor Debuffs (defile/maim/etc)

However it's going to be implemented, I'm afraid of even more balance issues until we know more.
(Aimed shot paired with high Dmg poison applied, deaths from everywhere(PvP view)).
