What Does a Best In Slot Tanking Set Do?
Rest in Peace:
The Dragonknight
2014-2025

This commemoration is for the class that has constantly been plundered and dismantled by designers for no obvious reason while other classes continue to have coherent skill lines and feel both powerful and cool.

Make it as smooth as possible for your group to complete whatever you are doing.

But what a set actually does that job depends on your group, the enemies and your tanking strategy. It could be a set that provides a lot of survivability and sustain, so the healer can focus on other things than healing you, it could be a set that buffs everyone else, it could be a set that protects your group members from taking damage, or maybe a set that allows you to do some damage while tanking.
So I don't think there is a general best in slot set for every tank in every situation.

The things you'll want for "BiS" are high health and high armor/spell resist and other forms of mitigation. Unlike damage dealers, there's a pretty good variety here to choose from, and as long as you meet the above goals you'll be okay tanking. As @lolo_01b16_ESO said, however, there is a great deal of skill involved in tanking well.

What I suggest for end-game PvE , there are 2 options . If DPS is low , go with Armor Master or Hist Bark ( I prefer Armor Master ) . If boss is just melting , you won't be getting much damage so you can focus on Ultimate Regeneration and for that purpose I recommend Tava's Favor + Blood Spawn . What I mean by melting is , everyones DPS is off the charts and boss will die in 30 seconds or less . You can run a tanky build even when DPS is high . If you are doing it correctly , every class can generate enough Ultimate to use Warhorn in 1 minute . You are reducing it to 40-45 seconds if you run a Ultimate regenerator build .

Whatever you do , make a build that sustains itself . If you get used to Templar Healers , you gonna have a bad time when your healer is not templar .

Powerfull Assault! Yep, medium set but the only content where u MAY need heavy is mol vet and 20k resistances were enough for the second boss and the first, since there are so many ways to mitigate dmg.

Im a fan of HA but i still wait long till they make it worth again.

If I had the pieces for it I would use either Imperium or Lunar bastion, bastion would be my choice if I could choose. Something that helps me protect the team. Would be cool to do a boss with the lunar bastion and using your synergies right have the Dmg shield up the entire fight.

Would use lunar+ powerfull assault. Buff dmg for the team (sadly only 4members) and shield them ^^

A true tank protects and buffs the group and does it completely if not mostly self-sufficiently while maintaining aggro, building ultimate and crowd control. Ebon, Lunar Bastion, Imperium, Warden etc. make good use of that practice. Tanks should not be a third dps or second healer (Cake runs like vWayrest would be an exception) but instead allow others to do their jobs more efficiently. Take off the Werewolf and slot Aggressive Warhorn so the Dps can get low when the whistle go.

Yeah you just read that. By the way that 30% major force bonus is my damage from my ultimate it just comes out of the other players.
I didn't choose tank life, tank life chose me.

True stuff. Sometimes i feel as a tank as if i would play a pure Buff/Support Class like the Bard in Eq2. Its ok.

Anything that buffs the group while not handicapping your ability to tank.

For Trials, I like using Ebon and Worm Cult as they offer more group utility than most other sets that are limited to 4 people.

I used Imperium through ic and orsinium. Pretty cool set. Saved my groups many times

I would disagree. Don't really need more than 27k-ish health (maybe 30 for Trials, but still not necessary). With the armor cap somewhat easy to reach, even resist bonuses aren't all that great compared to other things.

What I pay attention to are things that benefit group, proc when hit, or proc/scale with decreased health. Then as a magicka NB tank, I look for things that make up for class weaknesses, accentuate my stengths, and cater to my playstyle; for example, I like things that buff my healing power and survivability, so I use 5pc Juggernaut, 2pc Malubeth, 3pc Willpower. I am also in the minority that likes +healing received (however I think the +4% value that is on 2-4pc set bonuses is too low).
