So Many Lockpicks...

So I was thinking as I picked up my 153rd lockpick from an urn in the Eastmarch Public Dungeon, "Who removes the dearly departed's ashes, and only leaves a lockpick anyway? Is Sovngarde really a prison cell that you have to escape from? And if you fail the attempt, is it straight to Coldharbour?"

Also, there was ONE chest in the whole place. Granted, I lost one pick, but I still had 152 left over. Shouldn't we have other uses for the plethora of thin metal tumbler togglers?

1) In addition to HP, SP, and MP, players will now have their UI further cluttered with IP (Itch Points). Wait, why are you laughing? This is serious business. You think running around the Alik'r Desert in Heavy Armor is COMFORTABLE to the tender skin of men and mer? Anyway, every time you load the game, your Character's IP meter will be empty, and will fill as you play, commensurate with your level of activity and region in which you participate. Players who fish in Eastmarch will have their meter practically stagnate, while questing in southern Bangkorai will cause the IP meter to rocket. Want to keep your character in fighting shape? Each lockpick will serve as a Scratcher, removing 1% (possibly a lot less if that is found to be OP) of the accumulated IP. Ever had to wear a cast to help immobilize a broken limb? Then this will be a skill you've already learned.

2) Including Lockpicks in the One Hand and Shield and Dual Wield skill lines could be a possibility. Being brittle, they'll of course break every 3-5 swings, but you've got plenty right? To have them seamlessly apply to passives, instead of crit, dmg, or bleed, lockpicks will have the chance of getting 1% more gold from your defeated foes. The rewards are limitless!! Lockpicks need an ultimate too. One where the player throws out a hundred lockpicks at an enemy. This will do no damage whatsoever, but it is an effective taunt. A good tank choice.

3) Instead of just pounding a magically-produced bongo to rudiment the same apathetic rhythm in an emote, now Lockpicks could be Drumsticks with a new rhythm mini-game!! Being brittle (sensing a theme yet?), now you too can feel the frustration most percussionists suffer, reaching to replace broken sticks, hoping no one will notice while you smoothly keep the beat. Successfully finish a 5 minute real-world band Dream Theater compilation of Elder Scrolls hits without disintegrating a single one, and have a .00000000000000000001% chance to get the Skeleton Key. Which can only be used as a Memento to amaze your friends. We're working out the details of getting Nocturnal to personally sign the Key, but so far she's feigning disinterest.

With all these marvelous ideas implemented, the race will be on to grind every Barrow and Dwemer ruin continuously. Never again will there ever be a reason to NOT want to pick-up a lockpick!

You're saying there are more important issues for ZOS to concentrate on? I can't think of any. You must be thinking of another game.

All eight of my characters have 200 lockpicks in their inventories.

And that's just the surplus of picks that I found while taking my Main to VR16... one character funded lockpicks for eight characters.

Anymore, if I see lockpicks in a container I'm looting, I take everything but the lockpicks.

And the Water. I can't even begin to guess how much Clean Water/Pure Water/etc. I find in long-sealed Nordic tombs...

@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_RichLambert in the future, can I please find something other than Waters and Lockpicks in Loot?

    Pretty please?

I frequently go to the starter zones and give stacks of 50 of them away to new players.

An idea I had a while back would be to combine them at the forge to make better quality lockpicks. As an example if you were to say forge 5 into a slightly better version it could give you an extra 5 seconds to unlock a chest etc. If you combine 10 or 20 into a master lockpick it could give you double the time to unlock a chest etc.

I know many can already unlock master locks in their sleep, but this would not only give some players a bit more time and reduce the prevalence of lockpicks, but could also allow ZOS to make grandmaster locks that have a guaranteed good item in them. These chests could be rare but could not be unlocked unless you combine many together.

Some good ideas here. The whole lockpick mini game is just a speed bump.

Since it didn't change with the thieves guild....I doubt we'll ever see a change here though.

This is actually a realistic and good idea. How dare you permeate your reasonableness here! :P

When I played on PC I gave a random lvl 4 new character a GOLD Level 1 Whitestrakes sword.

I suppose it would be rude to mention that every once in a great while, there is a standard racial motif style material, like Corundum.

But if you're really lucky, you might get a Voidsteel Dagger that has no value. Except a nanoskosh of crafting inspiration upon extraction.

I second your plea to the powers that be. What we need is VARIETY.

Or more uses for lockpicks, and water. ESO alternate uses for water? THAT'S a tale for another time...

I do like this idea... not in the least because making lockpicks could also be a nice addition to any possible jeweller crafting skill line...

But as to the original notion, yeah, it vexes me too that the whole land is overflowing with lockpicks! I mean, really... who keeps a lockpick in their nighstand?? Those things should rarely be found, and only in the homes of notorious criminals... law-abiding people should not have them just lying around, thieverish player characters should be required to purchase them from the outlaw refugees vendors. Not like those vendors are inaccessible after all...

I just think you should be able to sell lockpicks in guild stores... surely there are new players that would want to buy some cheap lockpicks. I also have a stack of 200 lockpicks in 7 of my 8 toons... & the mule has about 4 stacks.

I once gave/lent a newbie 5000 gold so he could buy a horse, he got to level 17 and didn't play again. I'm like Scruge McDuck now.

A guildie of mine lend 500k to a friend, who quit ESO 2-3 days after that.

A guildmaster of one of my trading guilds asked for donations from his 300 guildmembers, then quit ESO.

I've been asked countless times to craft gear for lowbies, so I take my time and craft them the gear ..get my mails returned after 30 days, because they have quit ESO x_x these things just suck...
    ........................................

OP I usually donate 400-600 lockpicks to the guildbanks of my various guilds. There is always someone in need of stock piles of lockpicks that withdraws them :p I got most of my achievements done, so I don't need lockpicks anymore... I just collect them to donate them.

Reasons to why lockpicks are wanted:
    • to farm chests for loot.
    • to farm chest-achievements.
    • to level up legerdemain.
    • to farm veteran White Gold Tower.
