What you are talking about, can and will possibly be alleviated by having text box - which is confirmed to be coming to Console soon (TM)
A global auction house without search function would be even worse. And with a search function as provided to pc players via Addons, the guild stores are just fine. They really should have just gone with an auction house. Kudos for trying something different, but you failed horribly zenimax.
With a dull spoon.
I'm so sick of this post "economy" zenimax insists on using. It doesn't work without addons, that alone shows how bad the system is.

Never heard of a grapefruit spoon?

Also, I'm sure text chat will be limited to subscribers, or you'll have to pay a crown per word to use it, and it will be limited range local chat that can communicate with a max of four nearby players.

I disagree. In fact there is another thread going right now where this is being voted on. Between this new one and some old vote threads, most people prefer it to stay this way. Personally, I think a global auction house would destroy the game, my fun, my bank roll and so much more. It would just be an undercutting fest till everything was garbage.

Here's some real examples from my experience over the last 2 weeks since I started:
As a buyer if I'm short of (for example) a rune for my Enchanting Daily I might as well skip it. I could spend almost an hour (manually) searching every Guild Trader in the hope that not only does one have it but it's also priced worthwhile enough that I'm not actually losing money by doing the quest, but it really is not worth the effort. I'm better just waiting for the next daily.
As a Seller I've got very little hope. All the guilds I've come across want you to deposit weekly sums to have privileges to list items. And even then unless that guild makes a guild trader for that week then you're only advertising to a very small handful of the population. I've got a number of items that I know would sell but it's just not worth the constant maintenance to get them sold.
I know other people may think differently, but as someone coming in with a new set of eyes whom wants to contribute to the economy it is currently broken in its current state, being closed off with limited accessibility to both buyers and sellers.

I know, how dare they do things to encourage subscribing. Subscribers should have an XP penalty, take double damage and have to log on backwards uphill in a tutu. Encouraging subscribers is a good thing for the games future.
Or maybe just see subscribing as a great way to get to use text chat, without it being flooded by immature crap from free to play players.***
So basically I'm hoping it is sub only. It won't be though, as it would have severely limited use then.
If you don't like the interface on your squishy game box, get a platform that allows you to play games like ESO in their full glory. Game boxes don't have enough horsepower to play games like ESO, and they are forced to dumb the games down to cater to the kids playing on game boxes.

I have a gaming pc, and I started on eso at pc launch. I took the transfer to ps4 because most of the people I play with don't have gaming pcs.
Unfortunately there's no way to transfer back, and I'm not about to lose all the character progress I've made since moving to ps4.

Games like Diablo 2 didn't have any kind of auction house or pricing valuation so the player base created a website for specifically selling items. It eventually became the standard for trade and bled into the game.
