"I like the way Zenimax did 'x' with ESO."

I see a lot of posts about people saying things like:

"Blizzard did a good job with WoW the way they handled Arenas."

and similar things with other companies and games.

I'm just wondering if anyone will ever say things like that about ESO when they're playing other games and talking about them, about how they did this one thing so right that other games should follow its example.

So how about it, does anyone have something like that to say about ZOS and ESO?

Of course there will be people to envy this game long after it's gone.

Same for me with Star Wars Galaxies, I absolutely loved that game regardless of its problems.

PVP in ESO, regardless of the lag, has been been one of the highlights of my gaming careers.

I saw a Reddit post about BDO talking about armor dyes being one-time use or something, and someone commented saying ESO has probably the best system for armor shaders, being tied to achievements.

It's pretty far down. If you don't want to search for it it says:

"Well although GW2 has cool system, the greatest dye system in a buy to play MMO is definitely Elder Scrolls Online. You can unlock every color, just by unlocking achievements, which doesn't hurt yur wallet, and gives you more incentive to do everything there is in the game."

Im doubting. The thing about wow was it took things other games had done, and did them better. ESO has taken things other games have done and added elder scrolls to it. So maybe yes down the line some one might say, i reall loved the way eso tried to stuff elder scrolls into an mmo setting.

Sad thing is to me when i think about the things i like about eso are pass tense. i really love the way pvp use to be. i use to love anchors. major plot point that never lived up to the hype.

In reality, people referencing ESO in a good light will almost always highlight combat, content, features or systems. This game is absolutely incredible. It beats out many similar games it will be compared to in just about everything.

You will find far more people looking down at the game though due to how bugs, game performance, and PvP is being neglected. Who can really say if ZOS will improve in the future? Doesn't seem positive to me. Anyone can view the ESO Forums a minute just to see the enormous line of complaints and ZOS uncaring about it.

I love how the Cyrrodill PvP works with thd siegeing. It is really fun (just wish they would add some more siege weapons like those siege towers, or bombs that you place at a wall to blow them up). That is 1 thing ESO did well (though I am not sure how I feel about 3 alliances fighting at one time, it seems like 2 always team against the third one).

Also the char creation is nice and that the game allows spaces and non letters in the name.

Caring about horrific lag and fixing said lag are completely different. I'm not saying ZOS isn't trying, but it is never okay to start out with beautiful PvP/performance and then over the course of multiple years cause it to significantly degrade. I get jealous of PC players who got to participate in those 200+ player battles with fantastic performance. I can't find a battle with even a third of that without lots of lag on console. This is why so many players utterly left. (Gotta love having like 3/500 average online within 4/5 guilds!)

I'm sure when people in other forums reference ESO, they praise almost everything about it. ZOS purposely screwing Client-Server communications and tearing apart performance is never going to be one of them. Facts. Sad, but true nonetheless. I'll stick around though since it is The Elder Scrolls :)

Well, what ZOS did very well is to introduce 1st person view to the MMO world and that you do not have to lock on to a target.

Edit: to have the choice between 1st person and 3rd person view at any time (well, with the exception of riding, there I am forced into 3rd person), is what gives ESO this single-player feel to it. I can explore as if I would really be there and not just as an observer from the 3rd person perspective.

ESO is developing within a genre that is past it's peak and lacking in new ideas.

WOW cane about at just the right time. Sure, there were other games out at the time but they were the first to get it right and the majority of MMO players flocked to it. Because of its popularity every game, in part, tries to emulate it.

Imagine if ESO were made with Ultima Online as the most successful MMO. That's amash up I'd like to see.

I don't agree, they nuked Gold sellers and in the same time they nuked Cyrodiil

That wasn't the only thing that has hurt AvA. There were stupid exploits in Cyro that were taken away by the bot/hack purge, plus in PvE the stream of "You get good deel, 100k gold jus $15", the horde of bots at delve bosses, the locust bots sweeping up all crafting nodes, etc were a huge pain in the ass. There's been plenty of talk and speculation about how code optimization and better server architecture could have allowed anti-botting with less server impact, but for this thread I'm simply noting the positive aspect of changes that took out some severe annoyances.

Having played games with extreme hacking and botting, I can just support what @tinythinker is pointing out here. There is nothing more annoying than hacks and botting, which take away all the fun and provide unfair advantages in combat to those who use such hacks. There is no real solution to this problem other then to have a proper client-server architecture. But this means as well, that a lot of things have to be done in the server, which were outsourced before with the hackable system. some of the game mechanics would have to be changed to cater to this new server workload - but this has not happened.

The combat for me is amazing.

But what I really love is the depth of character customization in terms of gear appearance. I really feel that I can make a set of armor that I'd MINE and fits MY character. Sure, there are some items out there that it seems everyone has (kena shoulders), but the ability to make my character look pretty much exactly the way I want them ton AND have good endgame gear...that's pretty special to me.

    This.

ESO armor dyes are absolutely amazing. I mean - it's not only a Gold armor dye - it's a Golden Base armor glowing with purple light! Full sunlight = armor is almost purple, dark as hell = golden gear.

It's like - oh, we have a nice lava glow? NOPE, IT'S PURPLE MWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Yeah I know, shaders etc, but when I first saw a color like that I was like "WHOOOAAAAA!!!!!".

And they're tied to achievments, which means that pink dude over there is not just a simple pink dude. He's the ultimate champion of X who beat Y with Z in time limit of 5 seconds! And he's so awesome he can be pink!

As they have stated before it is not something one or two things will simply fix. They are inspecting ALL possible causes of lag in Cyrodiil and working to fix it all the time. If it was so simple a fix it would have been done by now. New content is always bringing about new or reviving old issues and they have that to deal with as well. Just be thankful ESO isn't as big a mess as Skyrim on consoles was...

ESO has the best travel system of any MMO that I've personally played. I have wasted so much time in other games just traveling, WoW flight paths being one of the worst. I don't know about the current game, but there used to be 5 minute flat paths in WoW. Instant travel to wayshrines, group members, and guildmates in ESO saves loads of time. The only things that bother me about ESO systems is too limited bank space and no auction house. The lack of an AH has caused me to not subscribe.

I get not wanting an AH due to Guild Traders and all but Guilds really need incentive to be more than Trading Guilds. Simply being another group of people to interact with or even fast travel to and having a nifty Tabard don't cut it. They need something enticing to promote PvE and PvP guilds, even if it has to be and this is not something I am totally in favor of mind you any sort of bonus to stats or whatnot from something like Player Guild Passives associated directly to the guild itself and not a Skill Line.

Because of the long-term nature of MMORPGs, I tend to see them like a marriage.

The key to a successful long-term relationship is to find the qualities you enjoy most and focus on those.

When it comes to the negatives, the trick is to acknowledge them, then pretend they don't exist (within reason).

For me, the good in ESO FAR outweighs the bad. Here's what keeps me coming back:
    1. The engine is very well optimized.
    2. Elder Scrolls
    3. I LOVE the combat system, the skill system, and the crafting system.
    4. Out of every MMO I've ever played, I like this end-game content the best.

What would I change if I could?
    1. The lag is particularly troublesome, particularly since TG went live.
    2. Small-scale PvP.
    3. Spellcrafting NEEDS to be taken off of the back burner.
    4. DirectX 12 support.
    5. And finally, we really need some additional weapon skill lines. Hand-to-Hand, Spears, I'm looking at you.
