Doubt it. There is really not enough playable water in the game for this to matter.

In case you're not joking, most of the time the water exists as a boundary to stop you going any further, so introducing a mount to cross it would destroy the purpose of it. There's only one watercourse I can think of that's crossable and wide enough to be irritating, and that's the river in Bangkorai (exacerbated because there's no wayshrine on the northern side of it).

Should be able to ride them on land to. With no loss of speed going to and from the water.

I'd prefer a waterwalk spell myself. There are a number of rivers, lakes etc. that are just deep enough to un-horse me I'd like to just walk across.

Hmm, that could work. And slaughterfish could still nibble at your feet, so they would still be a viable boundary.

Or they could make swimming animations for existing mounts so they don't force us to dismount.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

That would work too. Just so long as I'm no longer being forced off my horse so I can take the three steps necessary to get back on it, I'll be happy.

Yet they devote an entire racial passive for argonians to increased swimming speed.

I'd like to see this happen. Wouldn't even mind if the swimming horse was a bit slower than swimming without it, as long as I don't have to start hitting h every time i try to jump over a small pond.

I agree that a watery dlc, and perhaps an update to swimming would be needed to justify these excellent ideas. Its weird we can't swim underwater at all, but riding a druegh would make imuo for it.

So fingers crossed for a sload based dlc introducing the coral Kingdom.

P.s. +1 water walking ability you can use while mounted.

Well, the only kind of "watermount" I would want to see is a small one-person rowing boat... you know, canoe-style...
Which then could have a mechanic to "capsize when hit by ocean waves" if you steer it into boundary waters... dropping you right into the fish buffet (I mean, buffet for the fish, not the other way 'round)

Though I also would like to see a "riding skill line", with passives like "water training" that makes your usual mount paddle and not vanish the instant it hits the river... (although, considering that our mounts obviously are magical constructs, and running water is traditionally bad for magic stuff... well... it kinda makes sense, I guess...)

How odd. Then why are the small rivers, and ponds there? What are they trying to stop us from doing? One quest in Auridon has us jumping into the water to get to an Island to talk with Jofnir Iceblade and fight Doshia.

I said most of the time. Small rivers and ponds are clearly there for environmental decoration and hardly any of them are wide enough to need a mount to cross. That Fighters Guild quest (which is the same in all alliances) is the only one I can think of right now where you have to cross a large expanse of water as part of the quest, and there are only a couple of instances where there is a "swimming race" type of quest, where a water mount would defeat the purpose of the quest anyway.

The river in Bangkorai remains the only significantly wide watercourse that I can think of that you may want to keep crossing indefinitely (eg, to get to and from Wrothgar or the Group Dungeon).
