Not Sure I Agree With ESO's Marketing Team. At All.

I'm not sure if it is just me but I really think that many of the adverts for ESO have been kinda bad. I may just be weird but when I have seen some of the advertisements it makes the game seem worse than it is. Especially some of the deliberately cheesy ones. I watch those and I just end up cringing like hell and thinking that it's hurting the game more than it's helping it.

Like these two: (Yes I know what their based off and are meant to be the way they are but,, I don't know, they sort of hurt me when I watch them)

Some of the other Trailer may not have been as bad but at the same time annoy me. Again, maybe I'm just odd but some of the Trailers that were released seem kinda, I dunno, over the top. Just some of the lines make it seem like it's trying too hard, especially with the deep cliched voice. Like this line "Tamriel is a living persistent world populated with hundreds of memorable stories and characters." and "TESO: TU is a multiplayer role-playing game that offers many ways to interact with friends both old and new."

I'm not saying these adverts are bad adverts just when I watch them sometimes (I dunno why I re-watch stuff like this) listening to what they say makes me cringe at how 'forced' what they are saying sounds. Another example is "And just when you think you have conquered everything there is to master, there are still new surprises in store." as well as "TESO: TU is a world of epic adventure."

Again, maybe I am just strange but sometimes, when reading responses and comments to some of the trailers and videos, it makes me wonder if these adverts have been or are effective at all.

Does anyone share these thoughts or is it just me?

I agree. Maybe someone younger can comment (i tend to feel i am a bit older than their target audience so i wonder if its just me) but i definitely feel like these are missing the mark. If i saw this advertisement before I played i can gaurentee you i would not pick up the game based on the ads.

The first two ads are really cheesy in my opinion. It's not just you that thinks that. There are trailers of this game that I really like but the last ones seem more weak in terms of impact that they cause in the audience.

Tbh. the middle aged brunette with bleached burned hair roleplaying a teenage girl is actually attractive, which is why they made those I guess... some people would want to see her.

...the first two videos make me cringe, and the last one don't, however those cool camera angles reminded me of myself when the game was new and I was soooo exited by watching all these fancy trailers. I joined the beta, where I mainly focused on flowerpicking & crafting.. so I didn't knew much about the game yet.

At launch I got to Auridon at level 7 ....I went to a dolmen wearing a khajiit helmet and other random looted gear, but no boots and saw "Oooohhh shiny" used up all my stamina running toward it, pressed the pinion and was hoping for a fancy shining jewel loot or something els shiny .....and hell rain down upon me. As poor and miserable I was, I spawned at a shrine.

I've always thought zos PR was fantastic. They made a buggey game seem very appealing. I really thought crafting would be unique and important. And I thought it was a great idea to deliver new content regularly based on a subscription. Great job, zos PR!

I work for an ad agency that primarily does commercial advertising but we do all types. So i tend to be very critical on ads that I see other company's create. But since I am a fan of eso and play it religiously. You would think i would love the ads this game has. Wrong. It was not tastefully done. Especially the newest ones. For a second I questioned why I enjoy this game. Eso could have saved a ton of money and went the tried and true way of advertising and showcased what the game is and incorporated footage of awesome game play and what is expected to come in the future and slapped a big elder scrolls online logo at the end and called it a day. But of course zos wants to take unnecessary routes in their marketing (some developing too) and just Fraps the bed with it.

Are the first two videos actually financed by ZoS? They look more like some semi professional fangirl videos. Or is she actually famous in some other parts of the world? I googled her but never heard about any of her movies nor any of her songs.

The third one seems ok. Nothing to spectacular but the style is similar to other online game commercials.

Lines and descriptions like those (bolded for emphasis) just sound sterile, and bland. Like a tech writer wrote them, or somebody tried to describe the game in a way that a 12 year old could show to his parents as reasons to buy the game. There's no energy, no passion, no love.

Same way ESO PvP went from humongeous (200+) awesome battles with little lag to the mess it is today. Try stacking 20-30 people and spamming AoEs on console. See if it doesn't lag like crazy...

Can't share a good section of the story quests with your new coming friends.

Can't share and trade sets that matter.

Still no text chat on consoles.

No group finder app on the forums or mobile like every other decent MMO.

Diminishing XP the more people are in your group.

I know what angle they were trying to go with the commercial. Yeah it works for a certain demographic. I can see if they only released this commercial in Australia than yeah it makes since. But from a advertising perspective it seemed like the company they chose mismanaged the whole project. Let's say zos was on a budget and they came to my company to do a ad for them. If they can only afford that one ad. I would have came up with something that can have the same humor as this if that's what they want. But would make it relatable to a wider audience. That way they would get the most out of the one ad as possible. It's like running a ad for a local restaurant but it airs nationally. That wouldn't make any sense would it. Cause you have to pay the networks extra money for running it in different regions. If you only aired it locally it's much cheaper. So zos just threw money away there.

Yeah, it does describe some of the good aspects of the game and works kinda well but my problem is those certain lines they add in that seem so blatantly forced or trying too hard.
