Turn off Stealing?

Is there a way to turn off stealing? I'm forever accidentally stealing something from behind the NPC I'm trying to talk to or the crate I'm trying to click on. I feel like the town guards are just mocking my lack of depth perception now... lol

ha! this happens to me all the time. I also end up pressing "B" on my xbox controller which is what I have my blood-sucking attack set to. So I always end up feeding on some innocent bystander and get a huge bounty. You just have to be more careful, it's annoying, but there is no way to shut it off.

There is a way in the settings, under gameplay(i think) called "turn off accidental stealing", makes it so you can only steal when crouched

Really!?!

That's great. Will switch mine tonight. I changed the attack innocents a while back.

I always wanted stealing to ALWAYS be two-clicks even for counter-top items, like when you loot containers.

This is fine tho.

Time to switch 8 alts settings.

Last night it was 8 alts of mundus, now it's 8 alts of sticky fingering.

Unless ZOS changed something recently, this is quite false. There is a game setting for turning off auto-loot for owned items, but it ONLY applies to loot inside containers. The majority of the accidental stealing is caused by mis-clicking on single items that are sitting out on tables and counters, and (quite annoyingly) there's absolutely no way to prevent this in the base game.

There is an addon for PC called NoAccidentalStealing that does exactly what you describe, and works perfectly for preventing those types of accidents. Unfortunately, being an addon, it's only available for PC.

There used to be a lot more world items around guild traders, and have been put back to statics. But not all of them. I find myself having to be real careful around some traders. There is even those places where a Lore Book is on a table next to a piece of armor that have caught me up.

I just make sure I am not seeing Red before I click on something.

Although, there have been a few times where I have accidentally nicked something and no bounty. I look around and see a guard like right there, and I ask him, "You did not just see that?" I just get blank stares in return.

You can click "prevent attacking innocents" in settings, but there is not option for stealing.

I remember there was an addon that could do what you ask, but I can't remember which one.

Sadly I'm on the PS4 mostly so can't install the add on.
At least I'm not the only one though, that provides some comfort. We can keep each other company in the town jail. I'll bring the playing cards.

Once you do some Thieves Guild content, you will have methods to deal with the guards that makes this better.
