I mean everything about them says fire, but hey lets make them magic damage.

I know that this will make templars also a dunmer must, but it really makes much more sense.

Nope. Nirn's sun is not a star like ours. Magnus, the name of the sun and the god whom caused it to come about, is a tear that shows through to Athaerius. Nirn's sun is raw magic. While I hate the idea of Templar and 'sun' magic, at least it is more reasonable with lore.

A sun is not made of fire, fire is combustion via rapid oxiadition (i.e. oxygen). It's mostly plasma from a nuclear fusion of superheated hydrogen, with it's omitted light coming from ultraviolet radiation.

Beat me to it. Have an agree.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

    This^
It's a hole in the sky and so are the 'stars'. Why it's a perfectly round hole is a debate for another day :p

Guess that explains why my vamp can sun bathe without issue. Vampire Redguard, trying to get that color back.

No. Because the sun (stars) is photon energy. So all Templar abilities should be photon related.

Trolls aside with names like Sun Shield and Burning Light you would think it was fire damage.

But I also thought Nightblades would be the Frost class cold Shadows that kind of thing but ZoS likes it the way it is.

In TES lore, sunlight is pure magic. If anything it's weird that the sole templar skill Sun Fire/Vampire's Bane/Reflective Light deals fire damage, and not just because the schism between light (Anu; creation; magic; mer) and fire (Padomay; destruction; change; men) is pretty thematically important in the lore.

Not to bust anyone's bubble but nuclear refers to atomic nucleus the dense region of protons and neutrons at the center of an atom.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_fusion

The Sun is a main-sequence star, and thus generates its energy by nuclear fusion of hydrogen nuclei into helium.

Just on a lore point, I think very little is pure Anuic or Padomaic anymore, certainly not the aedra or even all the daedra. The battle between Anu and Padomay caused a mixing, representative in the mixing that resulted in the clash between Auriel and Shor(Sep?), where even the symbolism of Akatosh is tied up between Auriel and Shor in the form of the Dragon (Reptile-Eagle mixture). That's just my thought about things.
