Nirnhoned weapons and armour drops

The title says it all - why isn't this a thing? @ZOS, you introduced Nirnhoned as a trait but then don't allow a single world drop to have this trait yet continue to give us wonderful traits on armour such as Well-Fitted.

I can't find a topic on this already but it has been suggested by many people for example here http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/253549/7-constructive-ideas-to-improve-eso and here http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/2784633#Comment_2784633.

Would it be possible to allow the Nirnhoned trait to drop on weapon and armour world drops? If there are worries about overflowing the system with Nirncruxes then simply nerf the chance to extract them from world drops on deconstruction.

For armour I suggest simply replacing Well-Fitted with Nirnhoned (maybe even make it so current Well-Fitted armour automatically swap to Nirnhoned ), and for weapons perhaps change out Charged, Training, Powered or Infused (or all of these imo...).

Nirnhoned is a fantastic trait and I'm sure many people would love this change. It diversifies the builds open to us as often we ignore using certain weapon/armour combinations purely because Nirnhoned weapons are only available for crafted sets.

I was wondering about this myself. In my own experience, Nirnhoned does make a difference, so it's a big selling point for crafted gear. It's a shame you don't see it in dropped sets.

    Nirhoned for armour is useless.

There's plenty of it going for cheap on guild traders though.

Don't get me wrong by this, I totally would love to see well-sh*ted go out the door and replaced with a more relevant trait, but adding nirn drops does not add to diversity at all. It just means casters get another 4% spell pen and some extra magic resistance. How is that diversity? Also all of the current weapons that cannot come in Nirn have some other augmentation to them that puts them ahead of it anyways (Maelstrom staves , trial set 3/5 pc bonuses, etc)

It's still pretty useful on shields for tank builds. It would be particularly nice to see a set shield with Nirnhoned.

ZOS's stance when it first came out is that Nirnhoned is tied directly to the questline in upper craglorn, so it should only be dropped there. They updated it to drop across all of Craglorn, but this still fits in with the lore.

I can see it being dropped by mobs. But it would have to be Craglorn only. And it would have to be related the the now-dead Craglorn mini-events. This would definitely be a way to put some life back into those mini-events that no one does anymore.

I wouldn't mind this and certainly replacing that Well-fitted junk would be nice. The problem I see with the idea is this:

I don't trust ZOS with that. We'd end up with every single trait nerfed as well (altho it wouldn't be a huge issue) and probably style mats and tempers, too.

Gilliam, you are often narrow-minded with 'diversity' if it's not benefiting stamina. I'm not here to argue stamina versus magicka. It WILL diversify magicka builds. For example, a magicka Templar uses DW swords mostly (I'm sure you're familiar with a guy named Nifty...) yet we refuse to use certain sets because we need CRAFTED swords. If Willpower, Vicious Death, or a number of other world drops came with Nirnhoned swords it would open up more options to us.

More options = diversity. So yes, it does add diversity. If you want more diversity to stamina builds go make a separate thread.

I am not arguing a stamina vs magicka benefit. You are misusing the term diversity. True diversity would mean you have more options that truly differ from one another and offer unique advantages and disadvantages. With this change you merely take a trait that already exists, strips a useless stat to you, and adds 4% more spell penetration and 18% resistance, meaning it REPLACES sharpened for you. If it was Diversity you would still have sharpened as a valid option. So quick to call me narrow-minded but you yourself show that you are just as much as I would be.

Now if this was done in tandem with allowing more sets to drop in extra pieces such as Bahraha's or Syvara's where it can literally come in any trait, any armor/weapon, then yes it would open diversity up. As I stated before, those sets that come in sharpened already have augments to them that have added gains that alleviate the loss of penetration from sharpened to nirn, which again, what real diversity is. Perhaps you need to take a look at some of the new sets and realize that there's a few new options to run that deal with non crafted, sharpened swords. That's all I'll say, since I'm so narrow-minded.

The ones who could benefit most from nirn in dropped gear, are those who do farm Maelstrom Arena and Dragonstar Arena for master weapons. The armor trait is not that good compared to alternatives.

If Zenimax decides to allow nirnhoned drops, then I hope they implement some new alternative for the basegame, otherwise it will hurt the basegame economy a lot.

You're really just being contentious now, Gilliam, and arguing semantics with me. Diversity = more options. Nirnhoned swords outperform Sharpened and Precise in many situations for magicka builds. This restricts us to crafted sets for swords. There are set bonuses that aren't considered in DW builds because there aren't Nirnhoned swords available, such as the examples I already listed. Sharpened is not as optimal as Nirnhoned for min/maxing.

Furthermore, Bahraha's and Syvara's do not drop in literally any trait. Nirnhoned is excluded from these too. Yes, there are alternative options to Nirnhoned swords, but that doesn't exclude the fact that Nirnhoned gives more spell penetration than Sharpened. Therefore, for min/maxing Nirnhoned swords are still ideal and this limits our options to crafted swords.

Having Nirnhoned drop on all sets diversifies our options. I really don't understand why you're being so defensive on this issue. You seem to have different definition for 'diversity' and 'true diversity'.

I think they want us to interact with each other, trading our nirnhoned reward from craglorn with others until we get the trait on all the items we want. I've sold some via the guild traders, and bought some pieces too. The main problem is the lack of nirncruxes.

Removing Well fitted and adding nirnhoned traits on any piece of gear is benefitial too game, it makes whoever picks up the gear happier than if he recieves a piece of well fitted which he would never use in the first place, only a complete inbreed hill billy would use well fitted in any game sense, PvP or PvE, and if anyone IS using Well fitted on his gear voluntarily or intentionally its because the person is mentally unstable and while you're reading this thread that person most likely would've shot himself in the head with his fathers gun

Hmm I see your point. So how about this: give us the option to upgrade an item to Nirnhoned PROVIDED we have the knowledge to do so? I.e. those you have interacted with others to get the Nirnhoned research done can upgrade? I don't have every Nirnhoned item researched because I know other people can do it for me, but if I had to do it for BOP gear, I will study my a** off.

Well Eric said/hinted at changes to traits with update 10, so maybe part of that will include itemization to have these traits.

They would need to limit them to only BoP gear though, as otherwise it would only further diminish the value of these for farming or selling for research.

Yeah I think ZOS are going a long way to listen to our feedback on armour traits - look at the new sets in vMOL, they are dropping with Infused, Divines or Reinforced only. I'd love for them to implement that across the board as a temporary measure until they figure a better solution out. We've spoken directly with ZOS about Well-Fitted and they asked if we'd prefer it removed completely or replaced.
