Before the update, there would always be a thieves trove at each possible location. Mind you, I was in an empty zone, so I was the only one picking them up, but they would always be there.
After the update, I find one thieves trove for every 6-7 locations I visit. So they still do exist- but they are significantly rarer.
This was my idea to fix the problem of people leaving lockpicks in the troves.
A way to fix the "leave only lockpicks" type behaviour - add in an overflow bag to game, then make it so items looted from chests/troves/materials nodes/mail etc automatically gets looted and thrown in your bag, and with an overflow bag (a temporary bag that collects last looted items even if you have full bags, it's one time only use, ie last container looted only can go into it, so can't be used as extra bag space) the items would always be emptied in full from a chest/trove/node/etc and things could go on nicely for us all.
As for limits on looting - that's taken care of by fencing/laundering limits + inventory space being limited, and not being able to trade or mail stolen items.
There was no need for any nerfs.
They went from being everywhere, to being so rare that I've only found one since the update.
ZOS doesn't believe in happy-mediums, do they....
I saw two today, but got bi-t-ched out for taking one of them.I didnt see someone camped there in the shadows and took the trove.Man,did they call me every name in the book!
So,I assume they arent respawning very often,..but they are still there.

I like doing /wave in this situation so they really go off.

If you look at the achievements for them... they topped out at, I think 15. So, clearly these things were supposed to be pretty rare to begin with.

Going by the patch notes, there's supposed to be a zone wide limit for simultaneous cache spawns. When TG dropped, the limit was bugged, so every possible cache spawn was active at all times, and would respawn as soon as its timer was up.
Which also explains why the ones in Hew's respawned faster. Smaller zone, denser, more likely for players to find and crack those things.
Now, they spawn at the same locations, but not all locations at all times. So the caches are much more special, and less of the constant goodies buffet we were getting before.

So basically it works like intended - ok then. Explains as well why they were so extremely near to each other the first time around - that is part of the "randomization" of the location when not all are shown.
OK, not a single trove in roughly 3 hours of questing around Grahtwood.
I really hope I end up liking the rest of Thieves Guild because right now I am having some serious buyers remorse.
Was it really necessary to cut it back so extremely? It was really a fun bonus to exploration and now it just feels pointless.
There needs to be a happy medium. Either average the spawn rates or triple the locations. Something.
Yup. Just tickles me. I love the game and I've put some serious hours into it but I'm finding myself agreeing now with some of the criticism I see on the forums. When there are far more important things to fix in game and they're all over this and nerf it to near non existence you have to wonder where the development teams heads at.
Makes you wonder why they put the troves in in the first place. Now they've pretty much made them irrelevant and no longer fun they may as well take the redundant code out of the game for them.

One thing that might help is playing without the music running. The caches have an audio cue, so you can hear if one's in your area, and if you're sick to death of the soundtrack, it will help you find them.
