thieves trove- are they still in game?

I spent some time farming Thieves Troves. I have a map with all of the spawn locations marked, and I run a route to pick up each one.

Before the update, there would always be a thieves trove at each possible location. Mind you, I was in an empty zone, so I was the only one picking them up, but they would always be there.

After the update, I find one thieves trove for every 6-7 locations I visit. So they still do exist- but they are significantly rarer.

Maybe that's how it should have been in the first place? I never camped one, bit picked up every single one I came across and was swimming in treasure maps, gear, lockpicks...

I too had a route in Wrothgar that I could follow and hit most of the troves as they spawned. That was when the troves were on a five minute timer. They still respawn but the timer is significantly longer.

Miss the trove when it respawns and it's a long, long wait until it returns.

They went from being everywhere, to being so rare that I've only found one since the update.

I got one today, right near the skyshard in Hew's Bane.

It had seven lockpicks in it.

This is why I hate playing dlcs before the chaos dies down. Who was trying to prove what by leaving lockpicks behind?

I've only found 4 or 5 since the DLC dropped. I wasn't actively hunting them, however.

This was my idea to fix the problem of people leaving lockpicks in the troves.

A way to fix the "leave only lockpicks" type behaviour - add in an overflow bag to game, then make it so items looted from chests/troves/materials nodes/mail etc automatically gets looted and thrown in your bag, and with an overflow bag (a temporary bag that collects last looted items even if you have full bags, it's one time only use, ie last container looted only can go into it, so can't be used as extra bag space) the items would always be emptied in full from a chest/trove/node/etc and things could go on nicely for us all.

As for limits on looting - that's taken care of by fencing/laundering limits + inventory space being limited, and not being able to trade or mail stolen items.

There was no need for any nerfs.

I do agree with overflow bag and I want them to add this 110% agreeing with you on that. I love an overflow bag its something they need to add, maybe for subs only but this is needed. It would make it easier to get questrewards and just let them sit inside the bag, and lockpicks can be added to it as well!
    We need overflow bag!

If you look at the achievements for them... they topped out at, I think 15. So, clearly these things were supposed to be pretty rare to begin with.

Frankly, I feel no sorrow for anyone that farms or bots these things so no one else gets a chance. Worst kind of selfish gameplay that ruins the game for anyone else.

Didn't see a single one and I was questing in out of the way zones for quite some time. I tend to look in every nook and cranny for chests so this was something else to look for. They were pretty darned fun to open up while they were abundant in game. Most of the stuff I found was just fencing trash but I was enjoying the treasure maps. Blah, hate to see this nerfed so much.

Any word from Zen if this is being looked into?

Typical ZOS. First they make something to good, then they 'fix' it by making it useless.

They are, found 4 or so today. So they are still in the game, but apparently they spawn at random locations now.

Going by the patch notes, there's supposed to be a zone wide limit for simultaneous cache spawns. When TG dropped, the limit was bugged, so every possible cache spawn was active at all times, and would respawn as soon as its timer was up.

Which also explains why the ones in Hew's respawned faster. Smaller zone, denser, more likely for players to find and crack those things.

Now, they spawn at the same locations, but not all locations at all times. So the caches are much more special, and less of the constant goodies buffet we were getting before.

So basically it works like intended - ok then. Explains as well why they were so extremely near to each other the first time around - that is part of the "randomization" of the location when not all are shown.

Yeah, in this case it actually was a bug fix.

OK, not a single trove in roughly 3 hours of questing around Grahtwood.

I really hope I end up liking the rest of Thieves Guild because right now I am having some serious buyers remorse.

Was it really necessary to cut it back so extremely? It was really a fun bonus to exploration and now it just feels pointless.

There needs to be a happy medium. Either average the spawn rates or triple the locations. Something.

One thing that might help is playing without the music running. The caches have an audio cue, so you can hear if one's in your area, and if you're sick to death of the soundtrack, it will help you find them.

Yup. Just tickles me. I love the game and I've put some serious hours into it but I'm finding myself agreeing now with some of the criticism I see on the forums. When there are far more important things to fix in game and they're all over this and nerf it to near non existence you have to wonder where the development teams heads at.

Makes you wonder why they put the troves in in the first place. Now they've pretty much made them irrelevant and no longer fun they may as well take the redundant code out of the game for them.

Yea, i expected a little nerf... but this, you can`t even find any lol and its not like they had valuable stuff in them more like fun stuff to keep you playing.

As i said previously, this is what you get when you only have amateurs working at this game and don`t hire experienced people. They panic, change direction and *** everyone off. In the long run they make you lose your customers.

Yes, that is actually a good advice, I just go for my ears, do my normal thing exploring, and when I hear this buzzing humming sound, I try to figure out from where it comes and how to get there - the sound's range is quite large - best to use with headphones and in 1st person view - at least that is how I do it - use my ears as "sonar".

I haven't found a single one since the update.
Frankly, I feel no sorrow for anyone that farms or bots these things so no one else gets a chance. Worst kind of selfish gameplay that ruins the game for anyone else.

I'm honestly curious how you play yourself when you want to get a set that, let's say, drops only from a chest. You happen to know the locations of the chests, too. Now, what do you do? Do you run around the zone in a random route, carefully ignoring the spawning spots? How are you going to try to get something from a chest/a trove when you know where they are? Will you be setting a timer to allow yourself only one piece per hour?
While farmers usually run like crazy to get as many chests as they can, the situation with the troves was different because there was plenty of them and the respawn time was short. What do you prefer - one farmer running from spot to spot and gathering 20 chests in a route or a farmer that sits at one trove, leaving the rest for others?
Once again, there was PLENTY of troves and nobody was stopping anyone to go to the nearest one and farm it. There was enough for everybody and it didn't require racing from one trove to trove.
Now you don't have to feel sorry for farmers because we are sitting on tons of stuff and we probably won't need to see another trove ever again. Now you guys are in trouble because you will barely find any, and if you do find it it's possible that somebody will be already camping that spot. There was plenty for everybody, but now those who actually need it the most won't find any trove. Now you have a real reason to complain, I hope you will see the difference.
