Why is leveling up so tediously long??

It's all down to veteran ranks, I had to grind quite a bit on my Templar, doing everything in Cryodiil and even that wasn't enough. In the end Orsinium pushed me that last veteran rank that I needed.

Thankfully Veteran Ranks are going out the window soon (hence why they added Cadwell's silver and gold rewards to keep you doing them), so we'll only have to do one faction to hit max level. Hopefully they nerf world bosses when they do, just in case I ever go back to get zones to grind champion points, they're too hard to solo right now.
My experience was a bit different.

On my Main, I hit mid-VR15 right before I got to Reaper's March for Cadwell's Gold. Reaper's March got me to VR16 with zero problem.

I simply made sure that I not only got the Adventurer achievo for each Zone in each Alliance, but that I also completed every Quest i could find, even ones beyond the necessary minimum for the Adventurer achievo's.

Working on doing it again with my Magicka Templar now. He's one or two Quests away from finishing Stros M'kai, and he just hit VR2. So by my math, he'll be VR16 at about the same rate. Which will be by the time he gets to Reaper's March.

Also, on a side note, the World Bosses are easily solo-able. On my Main Magicka Sorcerer, and now with my Magicka Templar, I've solo'd every single World Boss, Delve, and Public Dungeon I've come across. And unless I made a critical error in judgement, I've not ever died in solo'ing those. None of those need to be toned down, they are just fine as they are, IMO.

Just want to clarify something, just beacuse it was longer in the past or in another game doesn't make it a good reason to make it long.

Slow leveling is completely pointless and doesn't add any fun to the game.

Do you considers just going around all day killing mobs an they respawning fun??

Do you consider redoing all the quests you did before many times over fun??

Grind for just the sake of grinding is just stupid and even if its the norm it should be changed

    1) No. So I never do it.
    2) I've completed all quests in the game on 1 character so far. I have gone through EP 4 times, I got Silver done on a second toon and I have a couple of other alliance toons that are at various stages of bronze. Some quests I look forward to, some I don't.

    3) The way I tend to level is I do stuff I like doing with friends, like PvP, world bosses in Wrothgar, pledges and then do questing here and there for skill points and such. I'm not in a hurry to get to v16, yet I have three characters there.

    The journey is the game.

In most games like this, once I reach max level I just get bored and stop playing. In Skyrim, I became so powerful that I was unkillable even when wearing armor and using weapons that I was completely untrained in. It was at that point that I l realized I had "won" and I just stopped playing. I didn't even finish the main quest.

I've never had to "grind" in ESO. I can't think of anything more tedious or mind-numbing than just killing boars all day. Well, except for all the skill points I'd be missing out on from not doing the quests.

    How you dare to complain.

I leveled up before they made level-up-***-nerfs.

Its taking you too long? Im sorry i cant be sorry for you.

    "Look! I'm so cool!"

When the solo content wasn't super *** easy it was at least fun, now it's just one super huge boring grind. It's so rediculously easy it's just insulting. No normal person can play that for longer periods of time...

They should have made it SHORTER, not SUPER EASY.

I ground my final toon on the weekend from v11 to V16 in about 4hrs using XP scrolls from my eso plus points. If you've got the whole of Rkindleft to yourself then it's 23 runs around the grind loop per vet level. Always carry a set of armour or two so you don't lose time repairing. It's boring and mind numbing I walked away with one motif lol (belts) and I'm. Never doing it again it made me proper mad but it's there now at max level. It can be done just got to put the hours I not the boring stuff. Busy pvp gives decent xp too.

ZoS includes a lot of time suck activities to keep you playing. The longer you play the longer you pay subscription fees. Or are more likely to subscribe if you don't yet. Or buy a DLC or other Crown Store item. They look for that balance where they can draw things out as long as possible without most of us getting so frustrated we quit.

Of course, that does mean most of us are constantly annoyed with the game, just not enough to quit.

Its insane, i've been playing since august and my highest character is vr12, i know im going slowly, but thats also helped by how slowly it is to get to end game, i just give up for a while and then come back.

Now to do that again with another character? LOL.

whats the point? after v16 it already takes forever to get max gear so whats the point of making leveling so long as well?

The thing this hurts the most is creating alts, i will never do that again with another character and i dont even know how i will get to vr 16 when i just finished cadwells gold.

There are a couple things you can do:
-If you haven't finished any of the DLC (Imperial City, Orsinium, and Thieves Guild*), you can do the mission in them and you will get a lot of experience for them since they are scaled to your level.

*If you're on console, we dont have the TG DLC yet.

    OR

-Grinding is also a good way to level FAST. If you play a lot, you can reach VR16 from level 3 in about 9 days pretty smoothly with Rings of Mara/Ambrosia/XP Scrolls. The only set back to this is missing out on Skyshards/Lorebooks/Skill points from quests on the way through a zone.

    Places you can grind:
-Wrothgar public dungeons: Rkindaleft + Old Orsinium ~800,000 xp an hour in "perfect conditions"*
-Imperial City Sewers ~1,000,000 xp an hour in perfect conditions (you may not want to do this because of the risk of getting ganked).
-Cracked Wood Cave in Cyrodiil ~650,000-700,000 xp an hour, but chance of getting ganked.

*Perfect conditions means nobody else but maybe one or two people you're in a group with being in the spot and/or not getting ganked by a different faction while grinding.

Those are the BEST spots in my opinion, but there are other spots. YouTube is your friend.
May the Schwartz be with you.

It is painful. But a lot of it should change with Dark Brotherhood DLC next quarter. So perhaps just focus on gaining CP now, and then roll alts once the veteran ranks are removed.

No, it is a problem today, and this problem is here for 2 years already.

The Problem - Eso players wants to be VR16 ASAP.
ZOS solution - Nerf grinding spots.

How about analyzing the reason why people want to be VR16 that badly and start fixing it form there? Here is a hint ZOS:
    - All gear you got becomes obsolete as soon as you reach VR16 - and you need to start grinding for VR16 gear all over again.

We just got lucky that they needed to sell new DLCs copies and they added proper battle leveling to the game.

And it is not 100% certain that VR levels will be removed next DLC.

    So yeah...easy grinding to you...
And ZOS please...whatever..Zos ain't reading it anyway.

I think leveling is fine. I enjoy the vet zones, mainly because they are quiet and because I enjoy the feeling of progressing my character.

I think it won't be as fun once they remove vet ranks. That progression will be gone.

I think removing vet ranks will result in people leaving the game faster once they realize they have all max characters and nothing left to work on.

I lost motivation to get my first character to v16 it's only v3 but I'm also a new player all I wanna do is pvp but can't because I have to focus on leveling up so that I don't get 1 shotted all the time plus I get bored playing with just one character all the way to v16 so I would have to make another class and level it up to keep the game "fun"

After you finish Cadwell's Gold, there's Craglorn delve bosses if you group, Cyrodiil ones if you solo, and Orsinium either way. I don't know anything about Hew's Bane yet because the update made my DirectX 10.1 computer non-compatible, so I can't play.

Just stay enlightened, kill reasonably tough monsters, chow down on lots of Psijiic Ambrosia, and marry somebody with the Pledge of Mara. You'll be zipping through the levels tout-de-suite and pronto.

I grind after finishing all the quests so I get all the skill points. I also collect all the sky shards. I then use grinding to put 3 or more skills on my bar that I want to level.

You can get a VR level in two hours by just completing the Cyrodiil dailies with an exp pot or two.

The pve dailies or pvp ones?

@Gothlander The PvE dailies in Cyrodiil. The quests that turn up on a daily bases in all the little towns (Bruma, Cheydinhal, Cropsford, etc.). If you complete 3 towns with a couple exp pots its guaranteed to net you a vet level. There are also other exp bonuses to look out for like pledge of mara, ESO plus, but the easiest to utilize is the 'keep ownership bonus'.
Basically this is a boost to exp depending on the number of keeps your alliance holds (up to around 20%). So be sure to pick the campaign that your alliance is most dominant in.
Be warned though, there are some unscrupulous individuals that will travel by horse for a solid 25 minutes just for the opportunity to murder a lowbie running a leveling/grinding build. But with a little help its worth noting that enemy players, the higher the level the better, actually give really good exp.

I leveled crafting as I was leveling my crafter. You don't need to be V16 to start leveling crafting. I would highly recommend starting way before.

My crafter is v16, and is my only v16 so far. He has all crafts at max level and is 3 days away from finishing the last of his researches.

So yes I know exactly how long it takes. If you wait until v16 to start crafting, you're doing it wrong. I have a level 25, a V2 and a V7 that all have blacksmith, wood and cloth at 50 just from deconstruction of drops from the v16. I have 2 others with cloth and blacksmith at max or almost at max, just need to finish wood.

Crafting is pretty easy, except research. Just by decon-ing everything, you can level that from 1 to 40+ in less than a day. Even enchanting gets really fast now. Food and alchemy are easy too, provide you have receipt and ingredient.

I am not the grinding type, otherwise I would have stayed in craglorn when it came out and grinded to v12 at that time. I just don't want to keep reaching a "new high" then the "newer high" gets pushed out by the dev.

Yeah my sustained dps is only 67% of those videos of masters of vMA, my burst dps is only half of those, guess what, I am feeling alright for now.

I had 3 toons covering DC, AD, EP, so I ran thorugh all zones, all quests in the first two months. Perhaps now, after enough time, I can bring my main DC toon back to finish the silver and gold zone mini quests again (I finished main quests in these zones).
