What class has the highest skill cap?

Just got my first character to VR16 (stam DK) and am thinking about leveling an alt. Combat on my stam DK largely revolves around keeping wings & buffs up, line of sighting opponents, and waiting for a chance to do my fossilize, WB, leap, execute burst. Does this sum up combat on all classes, or are there other classes that have a different style of combat or higher skill cap?

I will submit Templar because we use a channeled cone as our spammable, very tricky to use and you must be planning where your opponents are moving or funnel them somehow a lot of fun strategy comes into play here!

Outsider perspective: mag Dk and Stam Sorc appear to be higher skill cap, theirs is A different skill but each of them must be very responsive to what skill the opponent is using to succeed, esp mag Dk, maybe not so much next patch tho.

For a while I thought I was the only Templar left in Cyrodiil. Anyway, since I'm a 1 character guy and all I have is my Templar, I've spent plenty of time and gold fixing him. Personally I don't do much of anything that I'm "supposed to" and instead built a character that at a moments notice in PVP, completely change up my play style to mirror my attacker.

As of late last night I'm sitting at about 37K Magic, 18K Health, and 11K Stamina. I run two staves. On my destro bar it's Breath of Life (heals around 9000), a destro staff skill that I'll probably swap out, reflective light hitting 3 people at once for 4K and 6K DOT, Inner Light, and Structured Entropy. On the Resto bar I go BoL, mutagen, radiant oppression for about 8.5K damage, and then inner light and structured entropy again. My ultimates are Bat Swarm to fight groups, and Soul Assault for single targets. SA is actually hitting for 44K damage now! What holds this all together are my PVP potions, invisibilty + speed.

Here is how it works in practice.

If I'm 1 on 1 with a Sorc ... probably bad news for me because I'll never be able to out DPS them, but with heals I often string the fight out so long that they try to run away. I pop that invisibilty pot and run them down. Streaking Sorcs hate me.

1 on 1 vs a NB ... they have to kill me in 4 seconds or they are screwed. If they don't, which they usually can't, I heal and then at first chance start burning them down with the staff. The staff is important because heavy attacks will stick to people giving you a better idea where they are hiding. All else fails I go invisible and just troll them like every NB does to everyone else. I've found that NBs really don't know how to deal with a stealth Templar.

1 on 1 vs a DK ... they lose. Seriously what do they do well?

The bigger the Zerg is the better my guy performs. I get a ridiculous amount of kills because I hit everything from range, often 3 at a time. Same thing applies to heals.

All in all there is no way you're gonna out DPS a Sorc or out annoy a NB. Trust me I've tried. But if you are willing to put a clinically insane amount of gold into your gear and get creative you can get close, while still being a great healer.

    Long live the Templar!

On one hand BoL makes this a true statement, but considering roughly 1% of the player base actually uses one in Cyrodiil I do not think you have a popular opinion.

I can't get the rotation to work for me. Sure, I can LA-ransack-bash cancel against a stationary mammoth, but against a live player in cyrodiil I have a hard time pulling it off consistently. Plus it kills my stamina. I think because I'm on console so I have to block for a brief second to bash. Could lag have an impact or is this L2P?

Lag can be a part of it if its really bad (which if you play in haderus very well may be the case) but also a little L2P issue I use the bash cancel on my Mag DK a lot and dont have a big problem with it except when I dont have enough stam to actually bash lol

templars can be annoying, but when in PvP I consider them the lowest threat. NBs and sorcerers are a far greater threat than Templars. DKs too.

I read someone saying here on these forums that the developers consider the nightblade class to be difficult and that is why they have let them be a little overbuffed for a while.

Very little room for error as a mag blade, I can tell you that.

From my experience the stam sorc and stam Nightblade require the most skill to be successful with. With that said, the magicka sorc and magicka Nightblade are two very easy play styles to be successful with. The templar is probably the easiest for stamina builds, and the sorcerer is probably the easiest for magicka builds.

Do you have all the S&B passives unlocked?

It also helps to slot Defensive Posture and put about 9 CP in both block and bash cost reduction.

Agreed, I'd put the stam sorc in that same category though. Magicka sorc is the easiest play style to play. A ton of fun though.

MagSorcs I wouldn't say are easy from my POV. Having tinkered around with mine, they lack a solid 'Get off me' AoE move. Their mines does kind of do this, but since they activate their hitboxes on a timer, it won't save you when you have people on top of you already. Which forces most Sorc to Escape away. Sorc in general kinda doesn't have access very good AoE moves and needs to shop else were for them.

But in terms of single target DPS and Long Range DPS, Sorc has that covered in spades. HOWEVER, because most of that DPS is much safer long range it takes more skill to get that DPS out without being punished. Not being punished for a Sorcs DPS close range is probably something I will never be able to learn, since thats where I honestly believe the learning curve is. I also can't play Sorc since I love Mass Hysteria for what it does... At least I can say I tired!

na, this it exactly how it works, imho. la-skill-bash is your combination to deal extra damage at the cost of paying more stamina and is only available in certain moment. you should NEVER do this against playing using an immovable+major expedition pot (and i guess also double take nbs with cc immunity) that know how to move properly. i don't do this for extra dps but for extra burst, especially when going for the kill on a cc'd target.

however, many s+b users also have reverb and if you have reverb you can la-skill-bash a LOT :)
