The MMO Age of the world is ended, and the new age is begun; and it is your task to order its beginning and to preserve what may be preserved. For though much has been saved, much must now pass away; and the power of the MMOs is ended. And all the lands that you see, and those that lie round about them, shall be dwellings of MOBAS. For the time comes of the Dominion of MOBAS, and the MMOs shall fade or depart.... The burden must lie now upon you and your kindred.

I respectfully disagree. I have played MMO's for over 10 years and I have little interest in PvP at all. To me the perfect MMO is always giving you something to look forward too by adding content at a descent pace. No company can keep up with demand though, so it is best to take it slow and enjoy the ride. Although most games do gravitate towards PvP eventually due to not being able to pump out content quick enough for some players, so long as there is a quest driven MMO out there, that is where you will find me.
I have never nor will ever play a MOBA and if this is the future of MMO's I will just go back to single player games.
On topic: EQN sounded good on paper but with all the things they wanted to add they were shooting to high IMO.
How could they not know what was fun or not as they were developing it?

They cancelled Fable Legends and shut Lionhead Studios??
Whaaaaaaaaaaat?!

the announced they canceled Fable Legends as well. Was looking forward to that game too....
I've said time and time again though currently the only game i foresee pulling me away from ESO is Zelda U. they better not cancel that!!!
Not surprised honestly. And it's too bad because good MMO's provide competition and that's healthy for the industry. It's actually amazing that ESO is still up and running considering all the failed MMO's of recent years. Zenimax did an amazing job at stepping up their game after the shaky launch, so kudos to them.
People will always claim the next MMO is the "killer" though. Remember the Wildstar hype back when ESO launched? Well, it's F2P now and awfully silent. Black Desert Online? Turns out its just another shiny korean MMO with a P2W cash shop and mindless grinding.
The age of the MMO is just about dead and classic MMO's are more of a niche genre now. Which is why I immensely respect companies like Blizzard, Square Enix and Zenimax for continuing to put out high quality content.
