Do you actually care about clipping?

I've seen a few posts and comments on "clipping" issues and I have to say, I didn't even notice this was a thing til I saw people complaining about it.

Are the complainers just a vocal minority or does the community at large actually give a *** about this?

Personally, I couldn't care less, I still feel that given the scale, this is one of the best looking games I've seen, so complaining about little graphical issues isn't something I'd ever do tbh

It depends on the clipping. If it's something that can - and should - be fixed, it should be. Like prop items clipping into geographical things. Other things, such as weapons clipping into player model, isn't as easily fixed due to them not having a physical calculation attached to them and as such don't know how to interact with the player models. Meaning that clipping will happen.

Some can be fixed, some can't. All in all, I wouldn't mind it being fixed but as it is it doesn't make a difference on my entertainment in this game.

Hard to answer. In some cases clipping really saves my ass. I also think a lot of players does clipping naturally without actually knowing they're cancelling an animation.

One example is when using Dawnbreaker in vMA, If I cant clip or end that stupid animation with block or dodge directly after as templar, I might die in mele range. Same with a lot of defensive skills, where I'd be dead all the damn time if I had to wait for the animation to run it's course.

Meanwhile there's moments in PvP where I just hate it so much. You get clipped heavy attacks hidden under a Wrecking Blow that's also animation clipped with bash and you take like 30k dps in your face. It's really annoying when you cant see what opponents are doing in actual real time PvP. Clipping makes it impossible to time correct counters.

Best solution is removing or trimming down pointless animations all together. I dont see the purpose of it since it's making gameplay much more messy and ofc much more difficult for people not knowing the drill. If a skill is suppose to take 1 second it shouldn't take 1.3 because some animation to add "immersion".

Depends. There's clipping and theres CLIPPING. Some things you just cant unsee once you notice them and they drive you nuts. Also there's the opposite of clipping in which case you have pauldrons and weapons floating in the air far away from the character's model. This is more common in ESO and I think I find that even more annoying than clipping.

That's animation cancelling, I think OP is talking about polygons overlapping in terrain, items and apparel.

Yeah, I'd have to say that I rarely notice the clipping either. I think some people will just nit pick and on the other hand there is some clipping that should be cleaned up. Haha I guess I'm of the generation where every new game is still a technological marvel. I'm just not that jaded.

@eliisra you're talking about animation canceling which is different from clipping. Clipping is where the graphical elements can intersect each other instead of the physics disallowing it. For example if you're standing next to a wall, your sword tip disappears into it, or a lot of costumes have clipping issues where the weapons seem to be coming through the cloth. Or back in the day, you could put in clipping codes that would allow you to run through walls.

Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

      Meet my characters:
      Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

@Abeille Exactly what I think. If it's a costume for reaching a certain level or being a paying subscriber for a certain amount, I don't mind.

However, if I've paid 2000 crowns, you've better make sure there's no such issues as clipping (e.g. with certain weapon combinations).

Clipping is a small but visible sign that you have problems in the coding fixing the small things makes fixing the bigger problems easier.

It's like rules when people break them enforce the small ones that way their are no rule that don't matter. Not fixing small problems in the coding then turning around and making major changes will cause more bugs cause the underlying problem is not fixed.

It's really only important when it affects the player character's visuals. For example, when the armor looks bad on Khajiit, they need to fix this right away.

Artists that fix clipping issues or design the armor/clothing engine more than likely don't work on bugs.

Having said that, they could quit focusing on their horribly designed costumes and fix clipping and more importantly how costumes and armors fit our characters.

It would be better if they could fix it, even if they can't address everything since as people have said some problems are harder to fix than others. But it's not a priority.

It does bother me when I see static objects in a landscape clipping through each other. That's not a problem with hit boxes not matching images, or animations causing issues, it looks like it's just lazy design - they threw things together and didn't bother to check how they actually looked.

(I don't know, maybe the way their software works fixing something like that is an absolute nightmare and just not worth the time and effort, but it seems unlikely.)
