I have two staffs, the pictures are below. When I come over to the nirnhoned staff, it does not show that it increases spell resistance. What gives?

Spell Penetration = More Damage but Precise is good as well I guess.

    Nirnhoned gives spell penetration.

It means it ignore x amount of an enemies spell resistance. Unfortunately, we can't measure that on console. Not sure about pc.

There's a thread here about sharpened vs precise vs nirn. Someone's done the maths and the testing and nirn did more damage.

re-read the tooltip. Nirnhoned weapons are supposed to give both, spell penetration AND spell resist.

    OP has a point.

Sorry, thought it was just a question about the damage.

It might just be a tooltip issue. The swords definitely give spell resist

The tooltip is wrong on console then.

Fortified Nirncrux used in crafting on armor grants spell resistance. Potent Nirncrux used in weapon crafting to provide spell penetration only. Nirnhoned has greater spell penetration than sharpened.

Or it could be a bug? Nirnhoned stuff is expensive, if that's the case, why should I bother right?

Nirnhoned staffs do better damage. Running end game content if the staff / swords a caster is using is dropped, you want Sharpened, if it's crafted..you want Nirnhoned.

I support your signature, we should have mom and pop stores in Tamriel. Did you see how 150 Walmarts were closed and people had to drive 40 km for shopping?

this is wrong, Potent Nirncrux is suppose to give as much percentage spell resist as it does spell pen, real the tool tip, please.

You need to equip the staff to get the bonus spell penetration and spellresist o:)

Not really, if you click X (toggle view), it shows you what you will get with that staff instead of the staff you are equipping now.
If the tooltip is wrong, or there is a bug, then someone from ZOS should come over here and confess it. We are just guessing here.

Is that the thing on the right?

It's always wrong. I add lie something with more regen and it tells me it goes down lol.

Equip it and see. My resistance goes up per sword.

If it's a ui bug, good luck getting it fixed. Torug's and ashen are still bugged aren't they?

Hmmm, how odd. Yes it's supposed to. I'll have to check it out when I get home. I've always assumed it worked, since my spell resist was pretty high.

That's my old staff, now I have Juliano's.
I checked when I got home and once you equip it, it increases my spell resistance from 20k to 23 k, so it must be working right, and the darn tooltip is correct, but the toggle view thingy is misleading.

Yeh, I stopped paying attention to that ages ago. It didn't show my regen going up when I was hilighting bloodspawn. Yet my character sheet showed it going up when I equipped it.

Don't ever believe toggle view on console, always equip. It won't average out stats on armor sets until you do either.

The way I perceived the changes to nirnhoned (from the imperial city update I believe), was that instead of affecting your overall spell pen/ resistance, each nirn item only affected the spell pen/ resistance of THAT SINGLE PIECE*

So if your gear didn't have a resistance or penetration stat on it, the trait is useless.
No source for information just how I remember reading it in the patch notes. I'm curious though if that's wrong and it is in fact worth using.

In terms of Damage, Nirnhoned is generally your best bet. If the enemy you are fighting has really low spell resistance, then precise can actually better, but that is not true of any boss in this game. On my DK, I run Nirn on single target bar (bosses) precise on AoE bar (mobs with low resist). Sharpened is the poor man's nirnhoned, but for dropped pieces, its the only option.

What you said is valid only for armor pieces. Weapon nirnhoned is different, precisely because weapons don't offer an intrinsic resistance value. It works similar to defending trait, which also increases the values (physical and magic) by a percentage.

The character sheet bugs out sometimes I can imagine the comparison sheet does the same. It's very annoying when you can't trust your own stats.

No. It says Spell pen and Spell resist on PC as well.

I stand corrected. My main is a Stamina Nightblade and I play other classes rarely. I do craft everything however and I don't know how I missed this all this time. I do stand behind the Nirnhoned trait being better than Sharpened for end game PvE content.

Thank you for calling out my error. So many nuances to the game, i'm always learning something new. Apologize for the incorrect info.
