Unable to Login

I have had zero issues since I started playing a month ago, I recently registered for ESO Plus and now I can't login to my account since the last maintenance on 2/8.

I login to my account and get the loading screen, then either I get an error about unable to connect to the server or once in a blue moon I make it to the character select screen. I can repeat the process of logging in -> error, but when I select a character. I get the 'Logging In' prompt, and either get logged out, kicked back to the start asking me to log back into my account, or occasionally the game freezes and I am unable to quit.

This is a serious issue, I have two weeks of ESO Plus left, and can't play the game at all! :(

Exact same problem. I un-subbed until this is resolved. I've read too many problems like this in the past. I thought we were over that now, but it seems like it continues. IF it gets resolved via a hot-fix, I MAY decide to play again....they've got a long way to go to restore my trust.

Has anyone tried to install the game and log into the account on another computer?

I've had this problem since the 2/8/16 update, too. Nothing like this in previous 11 months. I've researched the heck out of it, tried all the suggested fixes I found, but no luck. I've seen it's happened in the past, but no word on whether it ever gets resolved or people just walk away.

I went to unsubscribe when it happened last Monday and they'd already dinged my card earlier that day.

If you're having trouble logging in like this, a support agent should be able to take a look at your diagnostics and let you know if you need to add exceptions to your security suites, or double check your connection via traceroute and pathping.

Nope, I use Linux and ZOS doesn't support Linux. I understand that. I did submit a ticket request with the report.txt file attached to draw attention to this issue and to provide details that may help resolve it for the Windows folks having the same trouble since 2/8/16. I'm fairly confident if it can be fixed for them, I can fix it on my machine. The response I got was 'We don't support Linux." I wrote back trying to get across that I was aware of that, but was trying to supply details that might help the Windows users who have also been affected by this last update. Response was "We don't support Linux.'

Yeah, same for me. Been playing on linux since beta and the game has been working better and better and then the last patch hit. Can't play anymore :-| I get it we're on our own but it's good to remind the companies that we exist :)

Also using WINE here and I was impressed with how well the game ran on my system. Then the patch came and it became entirely unusable.

If any ZOS dev likes to tinker with WINE and doesn't mind sharing some information with Wine developers to hopefully find a solution faster I have filed a bug report here: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40182

I remember when I played Neverwinter there was a dev that did Wine work and testing in his free time and actively worked with Wine developers so I figured I'd try and reach out to ZOS devs in case you guys have someone similar among your ranks.

Love the game and miss my VR3 Nightblade.

    I have a VR16 Dragonknight and a VR16 Templar whom I miss dearly. I hope they're OK without me. :)

Yeah, there is some kind of "unofficial support" for WoW and EVE Online as well, the issues get solved pretty quickly. Even something like that would ease my mind and help justify further monetary investments on my side. At the moment, I want to play, I even want to buy stuff to support the game because it's one of the very few MMORPGs I have enjoyed... but the situation is very unfortunate :-|

So I got the game working again for myself in Wine.
Alright. So after I left the game running overnight to install from scratch I had the same problems with the new installation. Could not login/load character.

When I saw that Jen had got it working with Wine-1.9.4 I thought I'd go ahead and give that a shot. I went on and deleted my Wine-Staging 1.9.3-1 from the system and compiled 1.9.4 from source because I couldn't find it in any Fedora repository at the time.

Made a new 32-bit prefix with my new 1.9.4 installation and then copied over the installed files from the old prefix. And when I launched the Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe I found myself with a new problem. The patcher had an infinite "Loading..." thing going on.

So next I went ahead and launched eso.exe itself just to see if I can at least log in again. It worked! I was prompted with a security warning that I was using an unknown device and was prompted for a code that was e-mailed. I entered the code and hit "Play" and was in game again.

I logged out, deleted my "Launcher" directory, and re-launched ESO_Install.exe with "install Directx" unchecked and "Install vcrun2010" checked.

Still had the problem with the infinite loading screen with the Launcher. So finally I launched control.exe from the system32 folder and imported the Thawte certificate in the new prefix which I had forgotten to do and now everything is back to pre patch 2.2.11 state.

I'm not sure if the problem was in Wine Staging or Wine version 1.9.3-1 but with Wine-devel 1.9.4 everything is working again.
    Just remember YMMV.

If you get impatient like I did and want to compile Wine-1.9.4 for yourself on Fedora instead of waiting for it in the repos here's a couple of commands I had to use to get it to play nice at certain points:

This was used to configure the 64 build directory in $HOME/wine-dirs/wine64-build
    $HOME/wine-1.9.4/configure CFLAGS="-O1 -fno-omit-frame-pointer" --enable-win64

and this was used to configure the 32 build directory in $HOME/wine-dirs/wine32-build
    $HOME/wine-1.9.4/configure GSTREAMER_CFLAGS='-pthread -I/usr/include/gstreamer-1.0 -I/usr/lib/gstreamer-1.0/include -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib/glib-2.0/include' --with-wine64=$HOME/wine-dirs/wine64-build

The first command above was used to get around a GCC bug with building 64 bit wine and the second command told the configure script where to look for the 32 bit gstreamer libraries because by default it'll only detect the 64 bit libraries.

I'm a Linux user so this won't help the Windows folk.

kenjitamura, thanks for your post. I saw they were doing server maintenance today and had high hopes, but no luck when I tried. I'd been using an older version of WINE, but after I saw your post I tried 1.9.4 and I was able to get in and play for a while tonight. I'm almost certain that I tried 1.9.4 before among all the things I tried since this broke on 2/8/16, but today it worked. Maybe what they did during the maintenance made the difference. I didn't have a problem with an infinite loading screen tonight with 1.9.4.

FWIW, I'm lazy and use PlayOnLinux, which is a wrapper for WINE. It has a GUI and I just told it to install version 1.9.4 of WINE. My distro is LinuxMint.

    Yes!
upgrading to 1.9.4 did the trick for me as well
openSUSE 13.2, playonlinux & wine 1.9.4 snapshots directly from openSUSE repositories

It's really weird. I have had the wine 1.9.4 installed since the 20th. It didn't work then, now it does. I can't tell what has changed apart from me resetting the UserPreferences.txt. Anyway, it does work indeed! So I'm off to play some ESO

BTW I did install ESO on a 64-bit prefix after they announced the 64-bit support and it seems to work as well.
