When ESO was released, I couldn't care less about minmaxing, I just picked Imperial because I like this race. I chose Dragonknight for cool looking spell effects and I went hybrid to have a bit of both. Back then, I would pick Imperial even for magicka Sorcerer build.
But years have passed and my newest main is an Altmer, magicka Sorcerer so in the end, I still enjoy a little self-RP. But a great many of players will never understand what's it like to role-play your character in MMO, lol.
Today we make our stand. Today we take back the Ruby Throne, which is ours by ancient right and the blessings of the Divines.

Not a complete minmaxer, but I do strengthen my chars as much as I can while keeping things that I like.
A good example would be my 2nd char: a StamBlade. After trying out Dragonknight and Sorcerer, I decided to try out Nightblade but I chose the Magicka route. I often found myself wondering what would've happened if I went StamBlade, so I decided to make one in the end so I could find that out and to try out the other side of the coin.
Though Tryxus is a Breton, my StamBlade is an Imperial since I would've picked one of the better races for a Stam build. But at the same time, I'm trying to keep my StamBlade as close as possible to the concept of my main Tryxus so he's not gonna be a fully minmaxed character.
He's called "Imaginos Tryxus" btw since I often imagined what it would be like if I had rolled a StamBlade

No. But I have 60 in Mag and 4 in health being a Mag Templar, other than that and having an inclination towards SD. The rest of my build is completely outside of FOM or cookie cutter builds. Might try one of the min/max builds though, they're done by some amazing players, as I'm getting more CP.

I'm the opposite: I always play hybrid builds and often have to consciously limit myself because my first impulse is to try and fit everything in.
In previous TES games my main character was always a khajiit who used leather armour (medium or light depending on the game), (short)blades and sneak attacks, but also used destruction and restoration magic when necessary. It's not easy to play at all, but it's fun for me.
In ESO that translated to a Templar in a mix of medium and light armour, using dual wield (and archery now you don't need to carry a billion arrows).
I have other characters who are a bit more focused, my other Templar is very much a healer, but I do also want to be able to use her for solo content so she's got some damage abilities too. I don't think I could ever play a truly min-maxed character.

I tend to pick a race based upon how they look and how it works with my character concept... it just so happens the race I like best works the best for Magicka builds.

Yes and no. On my main I certainly am. Mostly so I'm not annoying the sweet bejesus out of the people I group with for dungeons. I feel you have a bit of a responsibility to be as efficient as you can be when you play with a group. On my alts I enjoy playing with experimental builds and seeing just how many ways you can make a Sorc. lol

Khajiit magicka sorc, not min/maxed but properly geared. I like the staff over dw for heavy attacks, but I love to fiddle and try new things all the time.

No, i use what i want not what some group tries to insist i use, my character, my time, my money (subbed) .. my damn build lol
ZoS please understand everyone thinks and pronounces things differently, so please add to your 'rules' that things get removed if the Mod doesn't actually quite understand phrasing
everyone "min maxes" as it just means "minimizing undesired or unimportant traits and maximizing desired ones"
you would literally have to smash your head on your keyboard throughout the game or use a magic 8 ball or coin flip to decide on gear / weapons / stat allocation / sets / race / etc. to not min max in some way. if you build to a certain goal or to play a certain way, you min max, when you choose a skill morph or pick a set or allocate an attribute point , you min max.
min maxing does not mean fotm / meta builds, but those builds are probably min maxed.

ESO player since beta.
game got too disappointing.
I make character archetypes. Sometimes they are fit for min-maxing, like my Altmer Storm Mage (magicka sorcerer), sometimes not so much, like my Imperial Priestess (magicka templar).
I care for the archetype I'm going for more than for min-maxing, but I try to do the best I can with each archetype.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.
Meet my characters:
Command: Do the thing.
Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded. Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way. Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing. Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe. Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources. Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources". Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me. Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear. Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem. Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.
I probably would be if my characters weren't all Bretons from the beginning. No max stamina option for my stamina builds. Back then at character creation, I didn't know it any better.
Yes in that I go for the most effective build I can concoct, but for me that isn't usually balls-to-the-wall burst DPS, it's maximum sustain/survivability.
