What if Rune Focus was the Templar's house?

So yeah, ever since Wrobels comment there has been a lot of mockery regarding "Step into my house". I get it, I do.. but I think feedback and suggestions might be more in order if you want to help your class.

OK, so we know Rune Focus gives you Physical and Spell resistance - cool. Here's some other things it could potentially do

- While standing in Rune Focus, spell projectiles are absorbed for part of the damage and restores health at the same time (similar to S+B Absorb Magic)
- Anyone standing inside your rune focus takes X flame damage per second (shouldn't be too powerful, but enough to keep pressure)
- Templar offensive abilities are amplified by X% while standing inside the rune

Basically drop a Nova in your rune and watch the world burn.

    Or just gives us mines and take them away from sorcerers, they already have highest burst, highest defense AND best mobility, it makes zero sense that they get a spot to "camp". This has always been my number 1 concern about sorcerers, as soon as they see I can play around their burst they just camp mines and as a melee stam templar there's nothing I can do.

    @Alucardo I like this. If the archetype for a Templar (besides Healer) is to stand their ground, then why not punish enemies who enter the Rune Focus. Maybe it's time to add that Drain Stamina/Magicka effect to an ability rather than just seige weapons as well. This might work.

    Rune Focus (high cost like Seige Shield)
    - Unmorphed, provides Major Armor/Spell resist and HoT on allies. DoT to enemies (all effects besides the HoT persist 8 seconds after leaving Rune Focus)

    I'm not sure about it attacking enemies resources. I mean, at 10% a second, if they stand inside the focus for 6 seconds (especially if they get CCd), that's literally 80% of their magicka/stamina gone even after they leave. That's pretty huge.
    The idea I had was to make Templars more tanky, by absorbing projectiles. They'd take less damage and heal themselves at the same time without casting BoL.
    All their abilities would be magnified as well, so they'd be dealing out significantly more damage from jabs/sweeps, nova, vampire's bane, etc.
    I do like the idea of a stamina morph though. The fire DoT could be scaled off max stam/weapon damage then and restore stamina instead of magicka.

    Good idea. The concept is not bad, but if templar are to have their temple, let it be hell of a place for enemies!

    Bolded part. This is pretty much pointless because of the incredibly small radius of Rune Focus.
    As is right now, pretty much all damage abilities have a much larger range that no one will be stupid enough to jump inside the tiny rune to damage the Templar.

    IMO, if the rune is to be this immobile house (I am against this view BTW, the way the game plays and how you have to be very mobile) - then it *needs* to be bigger or people will just stand outside the rune and whip, WB, jab, SA, etc. etc. you.

    True that. Rune focus is rather small. You often see Templars cast it then immediately run out. It should be slightly bigger with more incentives to stay inside.. at the moment it's a hit and run ability, which makes no sense.

    Due to the Rune Focus' miniscule size.

    If an enemy player enters it, they are completely debuffed, including drink/food buffs.

    Plus, with next patch, Templar will be the only class that will have no way to get Major Expedition within their class skills AND have the Major spell/phys resist buff stick to them for the least time.

    You mean because DKs get a 2 sec mobility using a crappy skill like chains? I have no idea why that was even added.

    Unless Nova applies an unbreakable stun, sorcs can just bouncy ball in and out of your house. Anyone with range can just bombard your house.

    Most people are already pretty good at avoiding caltrops and proxy det by not getting kited into them. I just don't see this stand your ground working with a Templar as it is now. Even players who fight defensively still have to move around a lot.

    Maybe change the rune focus to be like a pulsing pbaoe.

    So the rune focus as a small pulsing PBAOE, either as a 10 sec duration, or a toggle in exchange for 10% magicka.

    The area does not have to be much larger than it is now, but it'll have to have a small dmg element and have it as a resource return for stamina that the class badly lacks. The stamina return could be based on the number of enemies inside the pulse.

    This would aid Templars' mobility and still give them a tiny house.

    PvP
    It could be used for popping players out of stealth.

    PvE
    It could help Templar tanks by returning stamina based on mobs in the pbaoe.

    This is seriously a simple yet good suggestion, honestly. If Templars are to stand their ground (because they lack mobility) then why not make Rune Focus a danger for enemy players?

    I don't know about you, but I'm pretty disappointed to see so-called buffs that are slight adjustments in attempts to make a class better (see Blazing Shield "buffs") and I think it's about time we start getting some serious adjustments, just like this topic's suggestion in the OP.

    There needs to be more dangerous, avoidable, obvious yet unexploited abilities in this game like something along the lines of a Rune Focus that seriously acts like a temple for Templars. Any enemies that stand inside should suffer the consequences, just like Blazing Shield used to be good for. Players learned that if you smacked a Templar too hard while they have blazing shield up? good luck! but now that's about as useful as a chocolate... dagger.

    Wrobel's view was about someone setting down areas of protection, and if you enter their "house" it'll be bad for you (lol). I still think the best way to build the Templar's "house" would be to make Rune Focus very strong and very dangerous with resource drain. It would allow Templars to hold choke points really well, and cause certain gankblades to really think twice before spamming Ambush on them. I would take it a step further if anything and balance afterward.

    Additional effects to balance my previous idea:
    - Size of Rune Focus increased to make it difficult to hit a Templar with melee while they're inside the rune's radius.
    - If an enemy is CCed inside of a Rune Focus, your draining resource only depletes at 5% a second.
    - If an enemy is immobilized inside the Rune Focus, they are not effected by the resource draining effects.
    - The templar recieves 8% damage mitigation (Minor ?) against non-player enemies while inside the Rune Focus, and 10% damage mitigation against all projectile attacks from players.

    Mobility is how ESO gameplay works...standing in one spot will never be something Templars want unless it is very beneficial....and we can't have very beneficial because it will just be nerfed to uselessness.

    Plenty of feedback on this in the Templar threads.
