ZOS, please - kindly asked: Can you get rid of your (wearable) item design team?

Okay, fellas. Probably I'm going to earn a lot of hate, but this shouldn't be one of the common rant threads. Well, probably it's going to be, but hey, I'm going to give it a try anyways.

So, this game is out since... 2 years, aye?

I mean, I'm not even going to start talking about the fact, that you've released a game only available as 32bit client - but, to everyones dismay, even high-end rigs aren't able to have steady FPS @ 60 while in cities. And that's not because the game is so utterly beautiful, no. Compared to other games like Black Desert, ArcheAge and even Final Fantasy XIV, it's even lesser than mediocre in terms of visual design.

But actually, there's a nice point related to FPS drops and character models. Believe it or not, people have been trying the craziest stuff to tweak their FPS, basically butchering the entire UserSettings and so on. But, what mostly makes your FPS drop, are poorly created low-poly armor models.

Let's go a step further. If you set the game at low quality (@ in game settings), apply them and restart the game. Once you log back in and select your character, just go figure in a town like Wrothgar, that your FPS are staying STEADY at 60, until from one second to another, the player model rendering pops in. Once this happens, even at low settings, you'll notice a frame drop of ~10 to ~15.

And I'm not going to talk about all those fixes you've to do when it comes down to stats, passives, items, skills, quests, lore, voice acting... etc.

The game itself - and I don't know how many folks have been writing this in the past - HAS potential. That's something people and even the press are telling since 2 years. And I CAN understand, that you just popped up the jack of all trades porting it to consoles. And I CAN also understand, that such a transition may take a lot of time.

So, today I've seen the Akaviri models - and I thought: "mhkay, they do not really have that much in common with what we got presented in the past single player series, but they're FINE. Actually they bring in a fresh wind."

See? I'm a positive thinking fella. But then, I went to look for the obligatory Katana - and guess what? No. No Katana. I get presented one of those shovels. I mean, we've already 9 styles representing shovels with a sword tip. And then I end up asking myself: "What kind of problems do people at ZOS have? No Lorelino? Isn't there a proper Quality Assurance actually surveying this?".

It's just like the clipping issues with MANY weapons, armors and costumes. And overall, the heck do I care for costumes? Why are you even selling costumes in terms of armor? Costumes should represent crafting jobs or specialy disguises for (RP) events. Like a cook-disguise... or maybe a fisher-disguise... Or, jeez, even as a Judge you'd get positive feedback. But, seriously, NOT armor! That for, get your butts up and actually DESIGN ARMOR sets and / or motifs.

That being said, I've taken a break of 9 months and have just come back, to see what has changed. And I'm pretty happy, specially when it comes down to the level / map design. Orsinium and even Craglorn would be pure eye-candy, if it wasn't because of those crappy performance issues. And, don't take me wrong, but I don't see currently any improvement coming, not even with the 64bit client. Because, when it comes down to what people from Mac told me, it's the same status as before. Minor improvements, but that's it.

So, please, focus on unique motifs for certain kind of armor parts. Make them ultra-rare. Or even specific weapon designs with a small drop rate.

Besides this thread, I think we can come up also with other issues like poor voice acting, poor quest-chaining, markers disappearing / not even showing up, weird High Ordinators not being at the place where they should be (Gel-Var-Delle? He sits mostly in the abandoned cave NE from the tree symbol - and not behind the tree close to the way-in). I mean, just examples. There are MANY essentials you guys haven't fixed yet. And there are SO many cool things you actually can do to improve this game, to RAISE the userbase, not just to hold it. Minigames (like a in game card game), TRUE treasure hunts - generated by system OR even by players! Just imagine it, pseudo-geocaching in TESOTU with temporary containers! There are already folks doing this by standing in certain locations. I love it!

Just, don't throw away your chance. Even though you may think you've enough time: Other games and brands have noticed that you're working slowly and not properly organized - and they're definitely going to take that advantage.

So, you'll wonder why the most folks playing TESOTU are sticking to it? It has the holy trinity, it has basically a good storyline, good PVP - if lag doesn't takes you down - and a really nice done scenery. Oh well, and actually: Hope. A lot of hope that this is going to be better and better.

And all this stuff, makes it even harder for me to understand, why the most stuff I read and watch, is folks from ZOS saying: No ETA, no ETA, no ETA.

Make a proper roadmap and focus further on it. If needed, get more employees. Other folks from the industry would say: "Well, they're going to try it once more, maybe twice - and if they don't see a positive reaction to their DLCs, they're going to wrap it up pretty soon."

When I started reading it, I was like "meh, just some another person complaining about the game" but as I got though it, you made some pretty legitimate points. I do kinda hope someone reads this and at least takes it seriously to some degree.

Too long to read it all on a friday evening but your first point about the 32-bit client is because this game entered development in 2007 where 32 bit was more or less the 'norm'.

So... What i gather from this is zos' costume design sucks and so does their game but they cant get the fps fixed so they should focus on armor design instead?

    Wat?

Yea, well, this is not a sub game. A lot of the best looking stuff they make will go to the cash shop. Thats how they decided to make money. The rewards in game will mostly be like the soul shriven costume - not something people will go 'omg! I must have this!' over. And if epic looking rewards do make it into the game theyll be behind a serious grind/rng walls so that they can be sold in the cash shop too.
P2P offered you 'hell yeah!' moments. F2P offers you 'thank god its over' moments.

I love the level we have reached as gamers where we demand people be sacked because we don't agree with the direction of a game we chose to join and play.

Grammar... Isn't it that thing your teachers HAVE BEEN TRYING to teach you FOR years ?

(Don't get me wrong, this is a KINDLY reminder. From a non-native speaker. But maybe your teachers should be fired ?...)

And that's what you picked up from this ENTIRE thread? Lol, simply lol...

    @Jeraldan

I'm not sure what to say honestly. This game started out with a lot of potential much of which has been dwindling down over the past year. As far as PvP is concerned, it was in it's prime from release up until the lighting patch. I know it has nothing to do with the lighting that was added, but ever since then the game's performance became less and less playable with every consecutive patch.

I don't really care about the armor clipping, the fact that I don't have 64 bit client until next patch, or the voice acting etc. I really just want a reason to keep playing the game. I keep looking for new things to do in PvP, constantly switching servers to avoid the lag/find people to play against. And well PvE I've pretty much given up on, it's nothing but a grindfest for the latest gear. Spend a week getting it and then back to PvP or logging in to just AFK in Deshaan.

Actually, that's how the world works. It sounds harsh, but: If you deliver a good job, you'll be able to stay. If you don't, just means that someone else deserves your job.

    Easy as that.
