DD stands for Damage Dealer
DPS stands for Damage Per Second
the argument: LF DD for gold pledge means: Looking For Damage Dealer for Gold Pledge
the argument: LF DPS for gold pledge means: Looking For Damage Per Second for Gold Pledge - which does not make sense
I am DD - I am Damage Dealer
I am DPS - I am Damage Per Second (what the duck)
understand the words you're saying/using

Well, considering that Tanks and Healers often aren't the DD of the group, it should be fairly obvious that DD and DPs are interchangeable and basically synonymous with each other. What does it matter what term any given person uses? Obviously if they're asking for a DPS they want a DD, and if they say LF DD, they want someone who'll be playing DPS.

But there's multiple MMO's where the actual role is called "DPS", by the entire community. Even if it means damage per second.

In other games people use the more correct term "DD". While dps is how much you parse.

In ESO we get a mix of both, since players come from different games. As long as you know what a guy mean, I dont see the problem seriously lol. Pretty hard to misunderstand "VR16 dps lfg gold key".

It's like the term "ganking". Here you're a ganker when using sneak attacks on other players. In other games you have to jump and smash low level PvE'ers trying to quest, to be seen as a ganker. People coming from games like that(usually with open world PvP), get really annoyed when you count sneak attacks as "ganking". That's not how they define it.

There's no worldwide 100% MMO dictionary. It's the playbase that decides what a term means and how it should be used. It varies, depending on what game you're playing.

My tank can DPS but he cannot DD.

The tla DPS implies nothing of the quality of the DPS, just that he does damage per second of some calibre.

I actually used the term dps once in a dungeon, and our tank freaked out... so I apologized and corrected myself, apologized again and requested to continue our pledge, but the guy started calling insults out and juuuuust wouldn't shut up about it. Before the first mobfight I said goodbye and left the group. Shortly after I met the other 2 group members at the wayshrine in Elden Root, they told me that he continued to rage... so they finelly also left the group lol ....we joined up, I invited my friend to tank for us, and finished our pledge.

I don't think I have ever managed to trigger someones OCD this much, as with this person lol and all I did was to use a wrong term 1 time

Like @eliisra it depend of the game. In World f Warcraft, everyone used the term "DPS" to speak about Damage Dealers.

Lol I would have left too. That is ridiculous. Some people take this game far too seriously.

I don't think I've ever used the term DD before. Of course it's fairly easy to figure out. I've always referred to dps when talking with my guild.

Conversation goes something like. Hey, I got a tank and healer. We just need some dps. Who wants to go?

Seems pretty easy to see what is needed. I don't get the whole freaking out thing.

I'm sure your tank can deal damage. Even if all you do is taunt the mobs, both taunts in the game deal a certain amount of damage.

Your DPS is going to be low, but it is going to be greater than 0

I agree with the OP. "DPS" is just a dumb term for a role. I never came across this term; everytime i read it i just think "wtf? use 'DD' " Everyone has dps.

When someone says I am DPS they are talking about the style of build for the most part so way to entirely miss the point by trying to show how much smarter then everyone you are because everyone is a DD only some specialize in DPS

Exactly my point. So my tank is a DPS yet he is most definitely not a DD.

They are damn near identical. Which ever term they use I would understand what they mean. But I wouldnt fuss about it.

If your a damage dealer chances are you are doing damage per sec. If that irritates you I would hate to be in your group. I dont damage deal mobs I dps them. Always been that way for me.
