Sorc mundus stone decsion

Lots on information on here already about this which I have scanned but I see the stats / theories change with updates. So this question is aimed at right now, on the Xbox One.

Thoughts on best Mundus stone. i've focused my build on max magika right through, then aimed in later stages for max spell damage. Am VR4 - i'm PvE alot solo, then Dungeons with my buddies - limited PvP (will come later) I use hardened ward and now the LA Harness Magika to potect myself.

I see the Thief listed alot in builds. looks on my Char sheet to add 11% spell Crit. I still dont 100% know what this impact is, 11% more chance of how much damage? Anyway I would say i'm between the Apprentice and Mage. I assume Mage gives the widest benefit as it boosts over all magika stat which in turn boosts spell damage stat? But also will Mage help boost my shields?

Apprentice appears to add 150 spell damage is that about right? I read somewhere it added spell penetration instead

In short i'm confused. whats going to help me primarily with spell damage but side benefits also nice to wards etc.

    Crits are 150% base damage, so those are nice. Once you get to 50% to 60% Critical Chance, your pretty much set as more critical chance does not really increase the over all crit rate that much (as your criting quite often at 50% to 60% anyway). Remember, Inner Light is another source of some Crit Chance. That and Julianos can easily put you at 60% without a Mundus Stone.

    So, I would go for the Stone that increases your Magic Damage or the one that increases your magic. Of the two, I would prefer Damage, as more base damage means more crit damage when it procs.

    I don't think the stone that increases crit damage is better than the one that increases base damage, as the base damage one increases both.

    Thanks again @Nestor so I guess last question is between the Spell Damage one and the Mage I guess as spell damage is only that and Mage will boost Wards wont it? Do they scale off Magika Pool size? If not ill stick to the Damage (apprentice) one.

    Yes, Wards and such scale from magic, but you can stack them if you need more protection. Well, not the same exact effects will stack, but you can stack two different Shield effects.

    So, this is why I stopped using the Increase Magic stone as the raw benefits from increase damage are better for what I do. Besides there is all that much a tactical difference between a ward of 13,000 and a ward of 14,000, your going to be recasting it with about the same frequency.

    Without crit dmg modifier 11% spell crit will increases your dmg by 5,5% on average.

    Another benefit is that you increase you self-healing with Power Surge when you crit.

    I'm good with the setup on double wards, entropy etc its purely the Mudus I was trying to crack. it looks for me I can get 1500 magika on mage or about 145 Dam on apprentice so I guess I was trying to add up whats better overall with impact to wards etc.

    I guess answer is to play with both!

    Laslty does apprentice impact spell penitration too or purely damage? it says spell power and I wasnt sure

    Spell Penetration is done with the Champ System or Nirn on the weapon.

    And, don't forget the effect the Divines trait, running that on 4 pieces and improving them can really boost the Mundus stone effects.
