My reaction to the Thieve's Guild DLC?

    Bored.

I checked out the balance changes new gear descriptions, so, OK. Then I went to an Outlaw Refuge. Got a quest for heist that eventually leads you to Abah's Landing. The heist was dull, and there was one place where I couldn't go undetected without being a Nightblade or using an invisibility potion, and I wasted a lot of time searching and waiting for a workaround.

When I got to Abah's landing I found quest givers for the public dungeons and new trials, but I was playing solo so I passed. After reaching the Thieve's Guild hideout and joining up, two quests were available there. One was retrieving an item from one of the public dungeons, the other was stealing some linens. Basically, just roam around the city searching random containers.

    That's it.

    There's nothing else to do.

    *shrug*

(Claims that NBs won't have an advantage for various thieving quests and in general in Abah's Landing/Hew's Bane are wrong, btw.)

What needs to be done is the release of an actual expansion, not more DLC with some new styles, mounts, and gimmicky skill line.

    The expansion should include:

    1) 3-5 new Trials, or other Raid-type group exercises.
    2) New dungeons, with an overhaul of reasons to run them besides Undaunted dailies. Think Dungeon Marks or something to trade for set gear that gains access to the lower tiered raids.
    3) Addition of 1-2 new classes, with appropriate skill lines.
    4) Guild-based progression system with a reason to remain loyal to one due to perks (besides guild trader access). Conversely, strip the ability to be in 5 at once because its kinda ridiculous. Some agree, some don't, but it's my two cents.
    5) Scrap RNG in place of an above mentioned Dungeon Mark system to acquire the gear needed.
    6) Force Group Finder tool to queue your class role based on your setup. Not a tank? Good. Can't queue as one.
    7) PvP enhancement for 5v5s, 3v3s, 2v2s, and 1v1s. Capture the flag, Capture Resource runs, Small Skirmish runs. Cyrodiil is still an option, but simply more options for PvP involvement.
    8) Abolish stealth on all classes except NBs. No reason a DK in heavy armor should be able to hide in plain site, in the middle of a field, gleaming in the sunlight. Technically speaking, I know "dude it's not supposed to be real life!", but why any non-stealth class can hide at all is beyond me. Yeah, I get it. ES games allow you to do whatever and armor/race plays a role in how hidden you are, but still.. we are talking about an MMO, not a single player game. Or are we?

But, no. Camels are cool too. :persevere:

    - Mimic stones are very useful. Will be interested to see what the price on these are. For those of you who don't know, mimic stones are a universal style material you can purchase from the crown store. So you want to craft that Merc armour but have no laurels? No worries, a mimic stone will serve you just as well.
    <clip>

I'm actually kind of bummed about this change. It's kind of cool to have armors that not everyone can craft easily or have crafted for them. The only reason I started running dungeons again was to get Laurel for the mercenary gear and I've actually really started enjoying doing dungeons again, so it all works out.

I don't know, it's a little too "gimmie gimmie" for my tastes. I am enjoying the fact that for a short while, before this is released, my merc armor means that I worked hard for it by leveling my crafting up to where I can read the chapters and farming for the style material.

Yes, they are - and more than those points you mentioned. I have not much of an interest in that content in your list, because it is PvP centric and my opinion I got from reading the forum is that PvP guys give a damn about what this game is mainly about, so why should I care for their needs?- This game is not a PvP combat game in the first place, but a lore-based RPG - so role playing is the most important and there a camel mount for a desert setting is something what is indeed very cool.

Edit: I guess they introduced Camels with this expansion because they thought of the australian outback with it and Australia is currently the continent with the highest population of wild camels on earth.

Nor did they gave you new skills line and abilities.

So, after stealing some time for a little more gameplay, still not having fun with the Thieve's Guild yet. Found once residence with an item I needed, guard was passing right by the outside door when I left. Went somewhere else, got a message about being in a restricted area. Tried to backtrack, got out of the restricted area then got a new warning. Tried another way, same thing. And each spider and beggar who saw me added to my bounty. Found another residence, didn't have what I needed.

    Lesson?

Level up Legerdemain prior to this release! lol

I don't want *any* of this nerfed, but my Templar was really not ready to be a thief.

Went to a public dungeon or group delve or whatever it is they have in Hew's Bane, very fun. And the new Unstable Core is growing on me a little. Need some work but better than what I found from testing last night.

OK, will see about more of the DLC later.

Well, part of your problem was that you were over thinking the introduction heist. I went through it with a level 10 DK wearing heavy armor. Not even close to being a stealth character. Killed no one, but did collect a small trespassing bounty. Did not need to use the barrels. The bounty was obtained by running past the peasants. I avoided all guards and lantern folk by just being aware of them and looking over my shoulder a lot.

I doubt that anyone will encounter too much difficulty on that heist unless they try a scorched earth approach.

First real trial boss has 42 million health. I think manti has like 7 million. He is not messing around. I enjoyed the mechanics that we were able to figure out, but the FPS was pretty terrible. Also, didnt have a chance to test Skoria (didnt really think about it), but if it is proc'ing again, that makes me happy.

Honestly I've never really used it before, so I'm not sure if this was always the case, but it scales off your highest stat. The 8k I received was from a stam dk, so this thing hits damn hard.

I doubt that anyone will encounter too much difficulty on that heist unless they try a scorched earth approach.
But that's the problem. I just ran past everyone, too. But when you get to the next main quest for the guild, some of the peasants will attack you if you are spotted. And the bounties for trespassing add up. Avoiding the guards for the next quest is much harder. And if they spot you, unlike the intro quest, they won't lose aggro or do baby damage. You will die. Conveniently there were zero hiding spots for that next quest while you actually needed to sneak to the quest marker. I just ended up running though the second half and dying 4-5 times so I could respawn and keep moving to finish the quest. Not fun. Not exciting. Not rewarding. I just wanted to get the completion. On my NB, I would have gone through each time completely undetected.

Honestly, every part of Hew's Bane *other* than anything to do with the Thieve's Guild was actually enjoyable - delves, world bosses, etc. The Thieve's Guild content I've experienced alternated between being tedious and exasperating. I am sure there will be people who will find it to their liking, and I wish them well. I just don't seem to be able to enjoy spending two hours searching random containers across Tamriel for a minor quest or being spotted every 10 seconds while trying to be a master of stealth and instead paying huge fines/repair costs to blunder my way through sneaking missions.
