That's not how Physics Works...

That's just a Title. There are many titles that don't necessarily relate to the topic.

Yet you reference realistic physics in your posts.

"If you walk off ledge without jumping you should NOT fly in a diagonal line towards the ground. You should fall straight down."

"Gravity is constant, the laws of gravity can't change from planet to planet."

"But it is trying to imitate real life physics, and walking off a ledge should not throw you that direction."

I'm not defending it "as if it is a member of [my] family." I'm pointing out your lazy excuse for sloppy forum posting. In the future you may want to title your posts to accurately reflect the contents of your message. You also may want to think about not countering your own posts. Otherwise you just come off as sounding ignorant.

I'm afraid you cannot call it 'design'. Yes it functions that way but it does not mean it was designed to do exactly what it does.

I would not say that am 'sloppy forum posting'.

My title states 'That's not how physics works' which is true.

I am stating how it not being realistic is not the reason why I am annoyed with it.

I have not contradicted my own posts. I said how it was not realistic, which is true, and how that is not the primary reason why it annoys me but instead said how and why it does annoy me.

You do not need to be hostile towards me in your posts.

These posts are for constructive criticism. I am showing something that could be slightly more polished or be less frustrating, that's all.

I only used the same words that you yourself used when referring to ZoS employees and other forum posters as "lazy" and "sloppy." I'll be done with this conversation now.

STOP looking at it as 'Maybe gravity on Nirn doesn't work like that'

A: Gravity is constant, the laws of gravity can't change from planet to planet.

B: It's not because it's not accurate, it's because it's annoying as hell and jumping sucks.

The laws of physics don't change, at least unitl you look at quatum mechanics. Gravity doesnt have laws, its a weak force.

Mars has about 30% the gravitational force of the earth, caused by its weak magnetic core. The moon has about 1/16th the gravitational force of earth...eso obviously has less than the earths...possibly because the planet has less mass, a weaker electromagnetic core, or one large/ mulitple moons tugging on the surface.

More importantly, its a game. ;)

Thank you. Saved me from typing.

Opened thread thinking "ESO is not real life blahblahblah"

Leaving thread thinking "yeah OP is right!" =)

Especially when it comes to trying to drop down on ledges right in front of you haha. That is the worst!

Ever tried jumping against a rock while mounted ? Depending on speed, rock and angle you will get bounced back further than actual viewing distance.

I use a similar technique for getting around cyrodiil faster. If you hit the right rock and the exact trajectory your mount will go flying over it and zoom miles ahead. I've also killed myself doing this, so you have to be careful.

There is something similar to the when going down slopes on mounts. If you jump and hit the slope at the right angle it launches you forward super fast, feels awesome when it happens.

Not so awesome when it happens near a cliff...

It would be really nice if there was a rework to the gravity in ESO. The way to fling your self off ledges is really stupid.

If you walk off ledge without jumping you should NOT fly in a diagonal line towards the ground. You should fall straight down. Jumping around things in ESO feels so clunky as you may just want to drop down onto a ledge below you and then find yourself shooting off what you were standing on and descend to the ground at a 45 degree angle.

If you jump and get momentum then fine, it's ok to go a distance while descending. But if you want your character to drop directly down from somewhere and you simply walk off the edge at normal speed it gets really irritating as your character seems to just shoot outwards as you go off to miss something below you by shooting 10 metres in front of it.

    Thoughts?

LOL what about jumping in the deep water ? or swiming with 100 kg armor? :p:|

That would be nice, along with several other things.

I've always hated the "floaty" jump in here.
My mounts slow down on every terrain change, like at bridges and such.
My character apparently lacks the ability to step up a 3 inch high ledge. Hate getting stuck on those.

Physics in general could use a look at.

Lots of councils have been sued for accident after people tripped up over uneven paving slabs
    Just saying :D

Its annoying when you take a flat surface for granted and end up kissing dirt.

It's not about lore, it's about odd game design which makes precision maneouvring impossible and gets me killed at least once a week. Jumping just works odd, I can't steer properly, it's floaty and slow and occasionally gets you stuck in props/collision surfaces and then lets you slooooowly glide down. I don't know the game's mathematical priority in determining the jumping animation: you can't steer or accelerate in-air, but due to the game's action combat movement system, any precision jump requires a straight line and some space to ' get up to speed'. I'm not sure if sprinting or not affects jump speed. I dunno, it just feels clunky, especially coming from GW2 where I did all the jumping puzzles etc.

Jumping, and of course the related gravity force, in this game is worse than it was in Skyrim. And Skyrim's was pretty bad O_O

People justify bad game design because it's a 'game'

Makes me laugh. This game needs a ton of QoL fixes and the falling/collision is one of them. How many times do you get to that two inch ledge you can't jump over.

Skyrim felt reasonably realistic IMO, and I've played a lot of those proper FPS sim games that try to get it perfect. In this game I can't stand 1st person simply because it's so unnatural the way you move, amongst the other problems with it.
I have departed into the great unknown that is outside the game and the forums, and wish you well in your Tamriel adventures!
