Mirra_Halfelven✭✭✭If I check my guilds, theres 70 guys online but only 2 of them uses voice chat, so chat is indeed needed. I never understood why they didnt do it, ESO is simply too mainstream to not to have chat. But lets see the positive side, when they actually add Chat, that should bring more people to the game back, maybe that was the plan all along.
I will be returning once text chat is back in, might even buy all the DLC's as a thank you to ZOS for finally adding text chat LOL

It's simplicity and ability to communicate with the entire population streamlines so many things.
My only fearis are it will completely kill the group finder tool and the people who use such tools to insult or aggravate others as I use that you'll to complete daily pledges.
Couple all the positives with the fact it's optional, looking forward to it.
"Simplicity"?? It's quite difficult to message via text with a controller. Sure u could purchase accessories like a key board or controller keyboard however I don't see many console players going out of their way to type a message when the headset is hands free. Also headsets are better tactically because since it is hands free your better able to communicate to your team or other players while in combat. A headset also allows the player to focus on the target instead of a text box. Besides zos already said that although text chat will be available for consoles they will still focus on voice chat as consoles primary form of communication.1 -

They sell cheap qwerty keyboards for your controllers at Gamestop, Amazon and other places that carry Consoles and accessories. They plug right into the controller and allow you to quickly communicate via text. And its really not that hard to type on Console without a qwerty keyboard. It simply takes longer.

Mcwoods55✭✭✭I hope they incorporate the remote screen so I can log in from my phone app or tablet and use as second screen to read and respond to the messages. I have a 65 inch led tv and should be able to read it even though I sit 10 feet away (hopefully) but I don't want to type with the controller and I don't want to buy a bluetooth keyboard just to type.....

While I can't speak over voice chat most of the time, I am still listening. People talk to me all the time, but I can't easily respond and they get more annoyed with how PS4 handles text messages. With in-game text chat, they can continue using voice and read my response without leaving the game. They don't have to respond with text if I am standing next to them.
As far as using text while in combat, I don't think many would be attempting to use text while engaged in combat. That is a very strange idea that people keep regurgitating about the topic. If you are group leader, make sure everyone can hear you so you can bark your orders at them. Nothing should change as far as combat is concerned.

✭Seems as if a part of the community will get the text chat they want. I think this is good and I hope it makes the game more popular and brings in more money and therefore we get more addons and bug fixes.
With that said
I will not be adding a keyboard to the couch I sit on to type on it. I stand most of the time in front of my TV when playing so I am not setting up something to type on just so I can use text chat. I assume I could use Xbox glass, but this means I will have to pull my phone out frequently to text chat which means I will have to set my controller down all the time if I am standing.
Of course this is all my own problems that I am sure are unique to me.
The real problem that I see happening is in group finder. I am going to get into a group with 3 others who are not using voice and using chat. I will have the chat window off, they will be engaging me, I will not see it and will more than likely end with someone getting kicked. Other than this situation it should be fine.
My 2 cents that I am sure counts for zero centsXBOX NA

I am so glad they are finally doing this! I know we have been into some "Heated" debates over text chat with a few people on this forum, but looks like all of those people that told us to shut up it wasn't going to happen are eating crow.
Actually this and the incoming caps on the CP system are two of the biggest reasons I have recently started playing again. The game might actually be heading in the right direction now.

Those of yiu who are Worried people will become more toxic. The community is already toxic on consoles. People fight all the time in voice chat. People tell, music is being played via kinect etc.
Text chat will add more to the community and its sad how a mmo today is without it.
Finally people will be able to find groups easier. Talk to the whole zone,whisper,guild chat, rp and more.

Text Chat will do nothing negative. Those who do not want to use it can simply toggle it OFF!
Text chat will actually make finding a group to run with a lot easier. It will also breath new life into a dying economy!
^^ Well I guess that is the only thing it might have a negative impact on. I guess all of the power trader guilds will not like text chat all that much. Well he could be a person like me who hear something and it doesn't affect him some people have thicker skin than others.You can hear something and it doesn't bother you but reading something just sticks in your head more words can go out one ear and out the other while words like reading a book is easier to retain that information than hearing it.So hearing someone curse is nothing and doesn't bother most people but reading it will stay in their head and affect them in multiple ways.Their people who are uncomfortable reading that type of language but don't mind listening to it.Funkopotamus wrote: »DRXHarbinger wrote: »This will kill the game. Good god, first day I played the game and went into the town in Glenumbra I was assaulted with so much noise and garbage I had to immediately turn that junk off.
From whining kids, to mouth breathers, to insanely racist and sexist remarks for nearly zero reason...just made the game really annoying until I found the "group only" audio command.
I don't mind the option, but i'm amazed people actually enjoy the "zone" chat. God is it annoying ahah.0 -

true but it will have more benifits then it has negatives to me.
good example is that you NEVER ever see PC users complain about text chat. who people do it on console is hard to grasp.
Pro's:- Easyer to find other people to play along
- group finding for dungeons and trials is posseble without being in a few guilds who actualy do it
- You can actually be involved in all 5 guilds, which now is limited by maybe one or 2 guilds
- zone chat for PvE-group area's/events like Orsinium world bosses and craglorn
- people tend not to be in chat
- RP purposes
- no anoying 6 seconds timer to switch channel (which really bothers me)
Cons:- Trolls
- spammers
- ingame gold sellers
but now trolls you have in area voice chat either way. and they blast music and scream through it anyway to the point most people i speak don't have voice activated anymore anyway0 -
