Theorycrafting? How to do it?

This may be a dumb question. But how do I really theorycraft? Is there a program that I can use to assist me? I know basics like for dps you want high spell damage, and magic for pool, and regen and or reduction for sustainability. What I am missing is the ability to calculate min max and estimating for balance/min/max. I feel that there is just some key that I may be missing. I also realize that I'm not an elite player when it comes to skill. But I do like playing the game within the game. I am constantly respecing and tweaking, but I never feel satisfied.

Right now my sorc has 5 Julianos, 4 Magnus(2 armor, 2swords). Divines on armour. all gold vr16. with a gold heal staff.

I am an unorthodox pvp build style and switch skills depending on how I'm feeling. I know its not meta fitting but I run crystal blast. Yes the aoe version. Other times I run an aoe ground target build for area denial. Liquid Lightening, aoe ultimate pet atronoch, volcanic rune, and the long range stamina trap(can't remember the name). I don't have magic set or caltrops yet, I'm still working on those.

I have about 320 cp, with about 60 in thaumaturgy and 52 in elfborn. With some sprinkled in defence cp, and lot in bastion.
And I'm a vamp.

Any tips on how I can theorycraft would be a big help? I want to go to the next level in theorycraft.

I can make my own armor, weapons, and food and glyphs (maxed crafts).

I am in the same boat buddy, I'm always looking for something different, not necessarily the best but just something that nobody else is doing. I am always changing gear, switching skills and CP around.

How I normally theorycraft though....I just think outside the box, far outside the box, thinking about what might work and what might not work, and how to make it work if it doesn't. If you decide to share your ideas, don't let anybody tell you that it won't work. Alot of things in this game can work quite well but the problem that most people have is that they refuse to try. They want to wait for somebody else to tell them that it will or will not work but do none of the testing themselves. Don't be that guy, do the research, the math, test it all. When you find something you think works and want to share, people will be coming to you for advice and such.

Use your head, be mindful and more open to doing things differently. Theory crafting new builds/ideas will start to come to you. Good luck and have fun! :)

Its really only a lot of testing. You look at whats available and then you think of an hypothesis, then you go test that hypothesis and see if it was true or not. Rinse and repeat until any change you make in dps, resource, management or other fits your needs. Or you can continue with all know options in the game to be sure, but yea don't do that. And yea check other peoples stuff out but don't take their words for it that its the BEST THING EVA, keep the set up of looking at it first and then hypothesizing about whether its good or not for YOU and then continue the process. I think your best bet to start are the many forum posts that explain the exact math of the game mechanics and how for example damage is calculated or how mitigation works so on and so forth. Really there is no one way to theorycraft, its like the word says just theories, some might be proven true and some false, so go nuts.

Thank you for the reply. One of the things I'm working on is squeezing the hardest hits that I can get for crystal blast. I am trying to see how hard I can get it to hit. I view it as a long range Wrecking Blow but without the self empower, and added aoe.

Once I get that nailed down I plan on balancing it with regen trade off for sustainability
