I'm am so sick to death with the mindless hate that this game gets from so many people. Most who only ever played the open beta or haven't played at all. If you look on some of the Thieves Guild announcement videos on places like Gamespot etc you see the people who don't even play the game make stupid comments about how 'This s*** should be free' and 'People still play this game?' This happens on almost all ESO videos that aren't on Zenimax's channel where people just go to the video just to write some dumb comment.

I'm not sure about others but for some reason I find myself taking almost offence to these comments as they are made by people who have no evidence at all other than 'omg bad game, rip off, money grab'. I will continue to defend this game against these mindless milk drinkers and I would also like to thank all the other people I see defending it in the Youtube comments.

@keybaud I guess the bad reputation came from beta still lingers. Out of many many many MMOs I have played, ESO is one of the best MMO out there I have ever played. Sure, there are other MMOs I also liked, but ESO shouldn't received this much hate.

@keybaud if you say so, but as far as I'm aware, this happens in the long run to most decent popular games. Some just want it to go free, so they can play without paying, some are convinced that its just leeching in an audience from the elder scrolls crowd, and trolls, well they're trolls, enough said. Its best just to ignore it, they'll get bored and move on to the next popular game at somepoint.

@jzholloway never played Destiny myself, although I've heard good things. It seems a little generic if anything.

I also find this "hate storm" while searching informations about ESO before buy.

Anyone saying this is "one of the best MMO's they have played" Clearly has not played PvP in this game since the beginning. I have even played numerous MMO's with vastly better end game PvE raid content.

Right now it's the "only" MMO with any real and consistant player base besides WoW. (oddly, one of the only MMO's I didn't get on board for). Those that truly play this game daily and see the bugs day in and day out, those that play PvP daily and see the class imbalances, broken mechanics, epicly long load screens. Those who proudly used to pay a monthly fee for this game....are fed up. This is another portion of those so called haters your seeing posting comments.

Well ZOS kind of shot themselves in the foot by putting imperial behind a pay wall and charging a fortune for the game when it came out plus the whole forcing players to sign up to a subscription to use up their free 30 days they got when buying the game, which is where ZOS was known for money grabbing early....

Plus all the bugs, instance problems, crashes, unable to group properly, could not do quests together properly and the zillion other issues they had at launch....

And that's only the half of it...

Gamers never forget that kind of stuff so yeah they dont bother to look at the game as it is now, they just go by what they knew back then but that's ZOS for you...

Even now we still have issues and some skill bugs from launch....as well as pvp lag and other things...

I agree some of the comments are un called for and some are just miss informed but some of it is ZOS's own fault....and well deserved..

I love eso, for me it on par with gw1 . With the next few updates I don't see myself playing anymore. Zos caters to cry babies and new players and they have no respect at all for the people who have been here since the start.

It's because if ESO is successful then their friend(s) will leave a game they have a lot of time they invested into. So rather than improve their game to be worthwhile, tear down the others.

That or they just like stirring up drama because they can't afford to play anything that's not a free to play malware scam

If they're talking about the games performance then I'll yield a bit depending to what they're referring to but when it comes to expecting this and that to be free then they need a Double shot of The Real World. Development isn't free, DLC just doesn't go POOF there it is; it actually takes hours of brain storming and figuring out what to do just to accomplish what they desire.

The problem with those comments is that they are almost entirely related to the PvP perspective. There are a lot of MMO players who have no interest whatsoever in PvP, not least in a TES game, and many of whom simply won't recognise the problems with the game that you describe because they've never encountered them. It may very well be "one of the best MMOs they have ever played" from their perspective, even if it is not from your perspective.

I have a love/hate relationship with this game. Mostly love. I just hate a lot of ZOS's decisions and handling of it. I've said it once and I'll say it again. A lot of is have battered wife syndrome where we love the game but constantly get let down and mistreated, bit rather than quit and leave, we stock around hoping if we complain enough it will change. And while ZOS does seem to be trying to fix things, it doesn't excise the fact a lot of the problems that have been here since day one are still present. But at this point most of us have come to terms and accepted those flaws and have learned to deal with them. So I guess there's some Stockholm syndrome going on too.

You'll find plenty of them on the forum, myself included  ! Not that I'd suggest for a moment that they represent 95% of the players, but they're a significant number for sure. What might be more accurate would be that at any one time 95% of those in the game are PvEing. However, none of us knows apart from ZOS who clearly have logs that tell us this sort of thing.

While some of it may just be trolling. A lot of it unfortunately is the kind of stigma that can last. A lot of people simply like to parrot what they've heard from somewhere else on the internet at some point. Without any first-hand experiences themselves.

Another example of this is AMD. Prime example of stigma from the past, that is completely unfounded these days. "AMD drivers suck". This came from back in like 2005, when it was ATI (before AMD bought it). And it's still parroted around tech forums even today.

The best part about it?. Almost everyone who says this has never even had an AMD card.

TL;DR some people just like piggypacking on other peoples thoughts, and opinions. They have no will of their own, apparently lol.

Much of the hate comes from beta. Many people were expecting "skyrim online" and not an mmo. ESO received a lot of hate back then. People look at beta as a means of being a free trial and play the game to see if they believe it is worth putting their money into. Not to mention what has happened since beta. Huge balance issues, bugs, lag, lack of content drought and so on. While much has been fixed there is still enough that pushes people away or they do not come back at all. Those are the people who place the hate on the game.

Some people are genuinely disappointed but rude. OK, fair enough. But many posting negative material are also trolls.

Keep in mind that trolls are trolls. (Deep, right?) Don't give them the credit or time you would invest in a serious comment or review.

    So, about trolls...

Consistent, hardcore trolls who only put out hate and derision likely don't have well-developed empathy outside of themselves and a few close friends so seeing other people get upset or suffer is pure amusement. Others just want to try to look cool by crapping on everything whether they know what they are talking about or not. Some are just really bored with nothing going on in their life and don't think about the effects of what they do online. None of them are worth your attention or emotional investment. The light-hearted trolls and the merry griefers are sometimes annoying as well, but they think they are being funny to someone, somewhere, and also aren't worth getting worked up over.

As for ESO or any other well-known product, service, or person, well, consider this: Why would they be targeting a junk game few people buy or play? They wouldn't. If you get those kinds of trolls repeatedly pouring it on for years, it's because they want a share of the spotlight in order to take a dump. In front of the world wide web. A really noisy, foul smelling dump. Just left out there where anyone can see it. Gross and obnoxious? Yes. But it isn't worth stepping in, is it?
