Accrual Bonus for Low Champion Points

Can anyone explain a bit more how this works?
Champion System Updates
We have reduced the XP required to earn Champion Points for those with smaller amounts in order to create a fairer gameplay experience. We are also capping the total number of Champion Points that can be spent.
  • At this time, you will not be able to allocate more than 501 Champion Points.
  • Anyone that has over 501 Champion Points when the Orsinium DLC game pack is published will have all their Champion Points reset, and will only be able to allocate 501 Champion Points.
  • You will not lose any points over 501, you just won’t be able to spend them.
  • You can continue to earn Champion Points over the cap, but won’t be able to spend them until the next time the cap is raised.
  • The amount of XP required to gain a Champion Point now scales with the number of total Champion Points you have.
  • If you don’t have any Champion Points, you will earn them very quickly.
  • If you have a lot of Champion Points, you will earn them slower.

From the description in the 2.2.4 Patch Notes, it sounds like anyone with CP at the cap or higher still earns at the same rate as before (1CP requires 100k XP while enlightened / 400k XP if not enlightened), but if you have very low CP, you earn a bit faster, so each CP requires less than the previous 100k / 400k XP.

Is that right? If so, how much less is required, and is it a graduated scale or same bonus for everyone below a specific cut off point?

Look at this sheet. This sheet may no longer be accurate but its helps to understand it all...this was posted by another member in the PTS forums months ago

EDIT: the old system, I think a CP costs 440k or something like that. notice the change after 501 for exp required

Thanks very much for this - wow, that 502nd point is a killer!

    It was 400k non-enlightened / 100k enlightened.

I assume Enlightenment works the same regardless of total CP earned - 1/4 XP required for each point, so for example you would only need ~8200 XP to earn your first CP (33k/4), or 434k XP to earn the 502nd point (1.74m / 4), is that right?

"The amount of XP required to gain a Champion Point now scales with the number of total Champion Points you have."

Scaling is adjusting numbers using a constant proportion, so yeah... they don't know what words mean...

Maybe "Noob Boon" sounded too much like "New Moon."

It is a constant proportion, but the "constant" is dependent on the current cap. That proportion is currently 823.610 below the cap. (As in, each successive CP requires 823.610 more XP than the last one.) The only thing they're missing from the patch notes is that the cap imposes a 50% slow down on CP gain, but the gain above cap is still scaled on your total CPs.

This comes directly from the multiplicative aspects of the CP formula, specifically (1/(501 ^ 0.995))*400000 = 823.610. Above the cap, the proportion is 1235.415.

    @IcyDeadPeople Here is the formula.
    • ((TotalPoints / (Cap ^ 0.995)) + 0.085) * 400000, where Total Points is how many CP points you’ve earned.
    • If you exceed the cap, the XP required is calculated given the above formula and then multiplied by 1.5.
    • For the first Champion Point (going from 0 Champion Points to 1 Champion Point) 34000 XP is required.
Enlightenment works as it did before, except that you can now earn more than one CP per day of Enlightenment if you are below the soft cap (which is 485; in that table above, which uses an old formula, it would be 337).
