I feel like ESO classes are really balanced.

Especially for a game that doesn't really homogenize the classes.

you can disagree but the fact is no MMO has 100% class balance unless they are incredibly homogenized.

So I feel like ZOS is balancing the classes pretty well.

I actually agree aside from some issues. I don't want every class to have the same skills with a tiny bit of flavor to make them different, I want all the classes to do unique things and offer different playstyles, and for the most part they do.

its circular balance rather then static balance. rock, paper, scissors. the problem with that is if rock is slightly weak then scissors becomes op. the problem right now is tanks suck.

Stamina DPS gets lots of self healing and damage avoidance in the forms of blocking, dodge rolling, breaking free, rally, vigor, etc. by pumping its main source of damage, stamina and flat damage.

Magicka DPS gets the same in the forms of Shields and healing by pumping its main form of damage, magicka and flat spell damage.

Tanks get no damage from pumping their main forms of defense, health and resistances.

really, tanks need a form of damage that would fit being a Tank so that we can get the Rock back into our game of rock, paper, scissors.

I suggested a reflect damage ability based on DK spiked armor that reflects an amount of incoming damage taken back at the attacker based on whatever would work (max health, amount of damage mitigated, flat scaling, etc.)

I'm not sure what people are talking about when they say a class isn't balanced.
For example, if this wasn't based around team play, maybe I would understand, but it is.

For someone to tell me it's unbalanced then i can only take that as them thinking that a team of 4 nightblades should beat a team of one sorc, one nb, one Dk and a temp. But that is not the case, the later has tons more sustain and options in combat.
If people mean that each class should have all the tools of the others then they can GTFO. Why would I want to play another class if they bring carbon copy skills and options to each fight. I just don't get it.

If a proper group gets together in PvP and everyone has a proper role and they can all act together... yes, the classes are balanced - especially when everyone has a decently thought out build with the right set armor, etc.

Problem is in PvP, most groups are like "see battle... must run to battle... free for all" - In this, beyond true healers and true dps, there will never be "balance"

I'd love to see/be apart of a battle between two large groups where people actually had roles beyond scout, thought went into battle actions, etc.

Its hard to have balance when half your skills are glitching out on you. I can't tell you how many times my skillbars have locked up because of toppling charge. There is a reason I moved away from playing a magicka templar, and the charge is probably #1 on that list, but hardly the beginnings of my complaints with the class. In theory Templar is wonderful, but in practice its a one trick pony that spits out purges (which anyone can do) and breath of life (the only unique thing about the class really). We also lost our only AoE cc because people whined about Templar damage output, and I think part of those complaints were because of problems with the Dawn's Wrath skill line. Take Enduring rays for instance, which has been a known problem for quite some time. Putting skill points in this passive actually makes multiple skills WORSE. Eclipse is treated as a cc even though it is not, thereby hampering the ability to dps. etc etc. I don't want to push every point home, but like I said its hard to say the classes are balanced when half a class' skill lines are broken or not working as intended. I like the positive spin and all, but just like Lemon Aerosol Spray in the guest bathroom, it doesn't really hide the stink does it?

I feel like a master pvp player would have most success with a maxed out sorc, then NB, then DK, then a power gap, and then a Temp. Templars just seem soft, at least a mag DK can buff up good

This game probably has the worst "balance" I saw in 30 years PvP:

Invisibility (the most OP skill in PvP)
    + surprise attack
    + most damage

    1x NB = 2x Sorc = 4x Templar

Idk what your talking about but if its 4 NBs in group and they have more skill then a 10 year old they'd know to focus one, one shot him, then cloak and move to next (I'd start with other Nb, Sorc, then let Dk and Templar try to escape but, oh wait they aren't balanced and have ZERO escape abilities. Game time.

The fact that people argue so passionately about balance says that balance is close enough to drive that kind of competitiveness.

Imagine if there were no issues with skills or classes being called out in-game or on the forums. What would that say about game state really?

I do generally agree with the OP, there are some tweaks that can be made to give other classes some additional options. And some styles need some looking into for help, but I see success from every class, if you know how to play it.

What a way to turn the broad ANGER about the crippled balance into the opposite.
After nerfing all other classes NBs currently are god mode in PvP, especially IC.

People either hate killing from stealth without any a chances for the victim
or people love doing so without almost any risks thanks to invisibility attacks/escapes.

We already are at about 70% of NBs because they are so OP now, tendency rising.
If most players select only one class for PvP, this is evidence enough for the lack of balance.

OP must be a Stam NB.

P.S. I'm not in the "nerf it to the ground" camp, but, if NB are left as is the strengths of the other classes: tanking (DK), healing (Temps), and CC/ DD (Sorc) should be tweaked to be in line with NB balance.

If you ever played a f2p/p2w MMO, you be of a different opinion lol. Everyone playing the new p2w class with gear they spent a months salary on so they can oneshot "noobs" that didn't feel like paying.

But for sure, if we're talking more cultivated games that costs money, than ESO balance is one of the worse. With a meta that keeps changing giving us new overlords every 6-10 month.

In their defence, I think it's much harder to achieve decent balance here. Classes in ESO aren't restricted to only using their own skill tree, passives or specific class itemization. So many more variables to consider in ESO, if you want to avoid overtuned builds.

For routine "every day" non-competitive play, the classes are fine. There will be DPS differences and ability differences, but none of this really makes it impossible to play the game, especially in the PVE part of the game. In the PVP portion of the game, it is harder, but there will be a lot fewer "non-competitive" players in this area.

I am perfectly OK with races and classes having different abilities, different DPS, and different focus. I don't care if magicka DK is "dead" (doubt it) because I expect that some class/race/attribute combo will not be as powerful as another. I really don't care which combo is best because all of them that I have tried seem to do what I need them to do.

The really funny thing about ZOS balance changes is that most of them don't have any major bearing on how I play the game. They are just re-arranging things and when they are done, I just adjust and continue playing. At most, they are annoying to me and might make me switch skills if it turns out I like something else.

This is just speaking from personal opinion. I have decided that I now have more fun in MMOs doing non-competitive play than doing competitive play. Your mileage may vary.

Classes balanced? LOL. Try playing a Templar in Imperial City and see how long you last when ganked by a Nightblade. Dead before you can blink or respond in any way.

And yes, Templar might do better in a large group, but then so would every other class.

Complete balance in 1v1 situations is never going to be attainable because of the amount of variables. However, there should at least be a reasonable level of parity and currently there just isn't. Not even close.

Nightblades and Sorcerers have all manner of viable options and abilities available to them. Templar (especially) and DK have relatively few because too many of their abilities are poorly designed or are bugged or got whacked into oblivion by the nerfbat at some point.

The day I'm ganked in Imperial City or a Cyrodiil delve by anything other than a Nightblade will be the day when I will say a modicom of balance is being achieved. Until then ....
