You are an old timer! I started on MUDs in early '94 and I agree about them being very social in comparison to MMOs. The player base on every MUD was far smaller for one thing, so everyone knew everybody. It was easier to enforce community standards when the community vibe was akin to a small town.
Here you can get a hint of that community feel from guilds, but it's not quite the same as knowing most every player on a game.
Heck, I've got a sexy female Dunmer character too. She's not the character I play most often, but she is sexy. Well, when she's not all corpsified and gross anyway, but that's why I usually like to keep her at stage 1 vampirism.khele23eb17_ESO wrote: »'Why do you play a sexy female dunmer character?'
'Because I like it.'
All the explanation you should ever need.

Anything that gives people insight into a person's background, world view, and biases is always useful in judging where someone is coming from with their opinions, and understanding what helped them form those opinions. The first thing a history student is taught is that you need to understand the biases of your sources in order to evaluate them. It's the same in anything else.I have long wondered why people sometimes feel they have to post a resumé of their gaming history to accompany an opinion. It's about as valid and relevant as my degree in archaeology, or the fact that I used to play Pong! back in the day.

OP I am surprised to say this but your GW1 and 2 play time as well as experiences are my own. I even started GW1 the same time as you, my first was factions, then Prophecies ect.
Although my opinion of ESO on paper was different.
I am glad you are still a part of the community and keep having fun
