My 16 year MMO background and why I chose ESO now

    I loved this game.

Since xboz launch I've got 4 vet 16s and now because of battle leveling have a vet 2, vet 3 and vet 4 parked in pvp. I

Yet I log on most days, play pvp and get angry within half an hour. The lag is seriously unreal. I can't believe nothing is genuinely been done about it. Seriously, I've never seen something not work as much as pvp in this game and nothing be done about it. Not just in gaming, but anything in general. Nothing has been this broken for so long. It baffles me.

So it feels I've put all the effort in and can't enjoy end game, which for me is pvp. I'm forced to give up and farm or grind CP.

Fixture lag and this game would be amazing again.

    Awesome, awesome post!

I'm 909 hours into ESO now and on my 3rd char, and whilst I have been less focused on it with the 3 other single-player games I just bought eating my time, I'm still subbing because it's worth it.

I am here because of TES like so many others, however I was only introduced to them 2.5 years ago with Oblivion when a mate lent me his disc. I fell so in love with the story and style of play that I went and bought Skyrim and ran it an minimum graphics on my very old laptop at 20 fps, and still loved it.

I had my first MMO with Elite Dangerous when it released just over a year ago, however as it isn't a real MMO I wasn't fully prepared for ESO. I actually bought a PC just for ESO as my laptop wouldn't even run it at minimum, and started to enjoy the single player aspect of the storyline. After levelling my Sorc I decided to make a Tank for dungeons that turned into my wonderful Fire Mage that I now use as my main.

I really love the PvE and crafting side of this game; I've been researching the traits, maxing out my gear and running lots of dungeons in order to become really good. I've found a few awesome mixed PvE/PvP guilds too that make me feel accepted, and not as much of an outsider that I was in Elite (of course, that's the point of that game :p).

All in all, I really enjoy the game, and hope that more content is released up to par with Orsinium.
I have departed into the great unknown that is outside the game and the forums, and wish you well in your Tamriel adventures!

I enjoyed reading your mmo experiences. Sadly, I never played gw1 or 2. I started with everquest 2 and loved it. I love pvp whole doing quests.

I mainly played a balance druid. I played it during the burning crusade and sucked - mainly because raids wouldn't take me. It wasn't popular so I was a novice. In wotlk balance druids were great and I became 12th on my server?

I also played Aion and really liked. The flying and pvp in that game. Very fun roaming elysia after finding a portal.

I grew up playing morrowind. That game was way ahead of its time. The Lore in elder scrolls is great.

Great post! I agree with you about ESO. It has so much future though some say it hasnt.
I have also played quite a few MMOs.Started with WoW and a friend turned me on to GW 1 and 2,Skyforge,and many others.Like Archeage,LoTR,Tera,Aion,Felspire, etc. TES games are my first games other than the Diablo Battle Chest. I'll always prefer the TES games over any others.
Having said that,ESO is the only MMO I havent gotten tired of. My mind has a rather short attention span and it gets bored easily,so I need input constantly. Lol! Yeah,I do hate the first Harborage bit, where you have to follow the Prophet,..over and over, with every new character you make.I wish there was an opt out button, like there is for the prison when you first begin a new character.Still, that's probably my one single complaint with the game.

    Great post OP +1

I never played any MMO, the controls turned me off so i played FPS shooters instead. When i tried Skyrim i wished it was online. ESO provided it all for me: FPS controls, Skyrim stories and online gameplay.
    Yup i'm addicted.
Insulting people on the internet is cowardly.

Very interesting post OP. For myself I'm here because it's an Elder Scrolls game. I've never played any other MMO before because I've never been sufficiently interested in one. In some cases (like WOW) this was primarily because I thought they looked terrible graphically and I knew I wouldn't be able to get past that. I came very close to getting into SWTOR, partly because a couple of my real life friends play, and partly because I'm a big Star Wars fan. Now that I'm as invested as I am in ESO, though, it seems unlikely that I'll start playing another MMO, because I don't see how I'd find the time while still having my job and my social life.

I've played a lot of RPGs before, though, even if I haven't played any MMOs. I've played most TES games (although I only played Arena a little because I never owned it and only played it at a friend's house), all of the Baldur's Gate games (magic is impressive, but now Minsc leads... Swords for everyone!) and going back much earlier games like Hillsfar, Heroes of the Lance, etc. I was playing pen and paper RPGs even before those, though. And my first computer game I ever played was a simple maze game my dad wrote for the Commodore 64 B)

You are an old timer! I started on MUDs in early '94 and I agree about them being very social in comparison to MMOs. The player base on every MUD was far smaller for one thing, so everyone knew everybody. It was easier to enforce community standards when the community vibe was akin to a small town.

Here you can get a hint of that community feel from guilds, but it's not quite the same as knowing most every player on a game.

@xellink - This is my first MMORPG and I really am loving it to.. Yes i get frustrated by the lag in Cyrodiil and the imbalance between classes.... My Magicka DK is now running around wrothgar getting mats and levelling for the day that the Magicka DK returns....

I have always loved the series, started with Morrowind and its addons Bloodmoon and tribunal,
then into Oblivion which was AWESOME with all the guilds quests as well as the main,
Into Skyrim which brought new graphics and it rocked....

ESO for me is now putting all those games into perspective,

I honestly cannot wait for Q1 and Q2 releases...

For those who are here ranting and raving about how bad the game is,
I will see you all in cyrodiil this evening again....

Have a Happy experience and keep enjoying the game.. dont let the smack talk get you down....

I have long wondered why people sometimes feel they have to post a resumé of their gaming history to accompany an opinion. It's about as valid and relevant as my degree in archaeology, or the fact that I used to play Pong! back in the day.
GM - Ghost Sea Trading Co - NA PC

Epona was a Romano-Celtic goddess dating back to around 1800 to 2000 years before computer games were invented.

Actually thinking about it a bit more, it was just before the holiday break in 1990, on college computers, text only green screen, 2400 baud modem, and had to use a floppy to start up. I only seriously played 1, but would chat occasionally on others.

Heck, I've got a sexy female Dunmer character too. She's not the character I play most often, but she is sexy. Well, when she's not all corpsified and gross anyway, but that's why I usually like to keep her at stage 1 vampirism.

Anything that gives people insight into a person's background, world view, and biases is always useful in judging where someone is coming from with their opinions, and understanding what helped them form those opinions. The first thing a history student is taught is that you need to understand the biases of your sources in order to evaluate them. It's the same in anything else.

OP I am surprised to say this but your GW1 and 2 play time as well as experiences are my own. I even started GW1 the same time as you, my first was factions, then Prophecies ect.

Although my opinion of ESO on paper was different.

The best part of ESO I believe is gameplay in terms of skills and perks. As a DK tank, I love how you can optimise skills the way you see it's proper. I played WoW for 10 years, and I really hate the way they've changed talents. I've used to pick different talents for raid needs and experiment with different specs, but now it's all about picking up different spells which don't really have effect on gameplay.
