Store ads on log in... really?

I would not all the *** that is happening in Crown Store and with Crown Store, BAH i would even agree on P2P thing IF everything worked fine, Devs would show that they care about their customers and every bug would be fixed ASAP. But that is not happening. grind spots nerfed to the ground. Serious imbalance issues in both PvP and PvE. Bonuses from Sets are not working, Champion Points didnt add as they should. How can you even think about buying useless costumes or mounts when Khajiit passive is NOT WORKING. Even better, Argonians swimspeed got fixed in few days while Khajiit %crit passive is broken for few MONTHS.

It must be SO HARD to click that ad away. This must bother you so much that you actually chose to do 300+ clicks to create a thread on the forums and complain about the 1 click you had to do.

I only get them when the store updates and I like them because I'd normally not look at the crown store and I like to see what is on sale.

immersion? there is no immersion. Friendly Reminder: You are sitting in a room on a chair infront of your desk staring onto a screen and clicking buttons. stop talking about illogical stuff that isn't real.

And actually yes those people being bothered by this little ad bother me. Zenimax needs to make money. If this helps them, good.

Friendly reminder - stop pretending you understand words and concepts that are utterly foreign to you.

Yes, I know it bothers you. That's why you're posting here about it.

Counter-immersive features tend to bother me and many others - which is why I'm here posting about it.

However, differing opinions generally don't bother me. But that's because I'm not threatened by them.

So, I tend to focus on rational arguments. I can only advise that you do the same, if you want your position to carry any kind of weight.

Thus far, you've demonstrated little except a complete disregard for how other people enjoy their games. As if you seriously thought there was a "right" way that you got to decide for them.

I think it's silly people complain about it in the first place. It's take half a second to click the X. ZOS is a business and the game now requires no subscription. May as well complain to the free newspapers you might get about the ads they run in there too.

Doesn't matter the when, how, or where's...people will always complain about something. This is so petty it's ridiculous.

On the other hand... for many things these days, paying for it gets rid of ads... as an ESO Plus sub, I'd love a button to disable the Crown Store ad.. even if it only shows once every patch / crown store update.

    Never going to happen ofcourse.

Like I said. I know its as simple as closing it, I still find it tasteless. Next!

When you go to a store...what's at the front of every store? Ads

When you sign into the server to go into the game, it's basically like getting in a car to go to a store. When you reach the door...ads. If we don't keep spending money, the store goes away.

Do what you do when you go to a store....look and keep moving if you're not interested. It's a simple solution

ESO is a video game, not a store. It may happen to have a store, but it is a VIDEO GAME FIRST.

No actually the game first logs your into their infrastructure to show offers and info. The login screen, launched and console welcome page is the ads and the crown store pop-up is the sale.

The game and the store coexist. You can't have one without the other based on how it's designed so my point is, you can't play without being in the shopping mall.

Then maybe ZOS should make a better game.
I think I can safely say that most people don't play video games to go shopping.

You literally can only buy DLC in game. I don't follow your logic as from day one of the addition of the crown store, all purchases for content have been in-game only.

It irks me slightly that there are ads when I log in and I have to click to close it. But it only irks me because I am currently subscribing to the game. I think if you have an active subscription going, you shouldn't see any ads at login.

Not so. The crowns required to purchase the content has always required the opening of a browser to acquire.

To those going on with the typical "must be so hard to press alt," "or first world problems," again, read the tail end of the original post this is intended to be a conversation of how this speaks to the wider game play experience as well as the business and design philosophy at ZOS. Pointing out the obvious is neither insightful nor constructive.

I think the idea of not forcing ads on plus players actually makes quite a fair amount of sense and would help add incentive to a program that has little incentive at present.

We knew this was going to happen when ZoS stopped making this a subscription service and made the game f2p (or whatever bastardization of f2p some pedant is going to flame me about).

It is B2P + Micro-transactions, not F2P. I mean, that isn't even a bastardization of free-to-play, so you're not even anywhere near the mark. In fact, they're polar opposites.

Hook, line and sinker. So predictable.

In your rush to be pedantic you have missed the point. The advertising is not wanted. Even as small of an inconvenience as it may be, it is not wanted. Especially by those of use who have played this game for 2+ years and payed large sums of money to support it. You may not have this perspective seeing as how you've been on these forums for a week (registered January 8th in your profile).

We don't need the advertising in game, it already exists in the launcher. It's simply a sign of the slow and gradual decline ZoS is taking this game in a journey towards making it just another faceless MMO with no artistic vision or integrity. Again, your lack of perspective may prohibit you from seeing the bigger picture. Things as simple as changing all the armors so they are less visually appealing and then offering "sexier" costumes in the cash shop (crown store) is a perfect example of this decline, and then forcing it into our faces with this tasteless unnecessary advertising just adds insult to injury.

And just to be clear, if the game is not a subscription service, it's free to play. It is monetized through the selling of junk that will ultimately become more of a focus than actual game development or improvement. The whole "b2p" misnomer simply serves the purpose of weeding out people who would not have money to spend.

If ZoS doesn't want to sell subscriptions, then they should focus on DLC for monetization. Improve the game in such a way that people want to spend money. These "microtransactions" and the associated advertising are a predatory technique that predominantly targets people with social and emotional issues who use the game as an escape. The whole argument of "the business needs to make money" is a tired, overused trope that puts the cart before the horse (see what I did there). The business needs to create a product that people want and adds value to their lives (entertainment value in this case). If they do that the money will follow. Instead ZoS is using a fundamentally amoral business model that is known to target people with social and emotional issues. This will lead to ZoS focusing on microtransactions and "the junk store" instead of fulfilling the promises they have made to the fan base of making an Elder Scrolls game that is second to none.

The advertising is not a problem, it's a symptom of a problem. It's what we all was going to happen when ZoS stopped making this a subscription service and made the game f2p (or whatever bastardization of f2p some pedant is going to flame me about).

Pretty much hit that nail on the head, mate.

This is fake. Every bit of it. I get bored sometimes too and come up with exaggerate responses to things that really aren't an issue for me. This is not a symptom of a problem. This is not the early signs of a slow decline into the full on f2p type in your face advertising. People who purchase costumes and pets and other fluff items are not always suffering from social and emotional issues and being preyed upon by big bad ZOS. Nice generalization and sensationalism on a completely made up fact though, I was truly moved by it and would vote for you in the primary. Get over yourselves. I assume we are all adults here, lets act like it. No way in hell this ad so triggered people in a way that it warranted 3 pages worth of ridiculous responses. I read the op and I still say...click x...move on.

A single, once-a-week (at most) dialog box that can be instantly closed with a single button press, on a no-sub-required MMO, is a completely ridiculous thing to complain about.

I might support the idea that ESO+ subscribers could be given an option to disable it. But honestly, most of the people that sub to ESO+ are probably the same types that would actually have some interest in what's new in the crown store.

I would bet that the majority of the people that complain are the freeloaders that don't sub and never spend anything in the crown store to support the game anyway. So it's no real loss to ZOS if they quit over something so trivial.

I have to chuckle every time I log in and see the ads, but honestly it takes 2 seconds and it's off my screen and they're gone for the rest of the day. I agree that I'd rather not see them but if it gets more people to spend money and support the game at the expense of 2 seconds of my time in the day I'll settle with it.

I will say though, for a game that leaves a lot of needed things out for "immersion", the ads definitely break it for me lol.

You can argue that people who find the ads tasteless are oversensitive, but to that I have to ask, "are you really so sensitive in defending your participation in the game, that you have to shout down and belittle opinions disliking and hoping to discuss something in said game?"

I just want to say something:

A company was doing a fundraiser, they built a website to except donations. The website was a fail at first. They went back and changed the color of the donate button and next thing you know they had many more people donating to the charity.

My point is, there are many ways to advertise a product; however, putting a window in my face might not be the best solution. For me it feels kind of 'pushy" and I don't like being pushed.

I don't know to much about marketing but maybe doing it the current way is getting them more sales. I feel the launch window is the best place for advertising, not in game.

    [ joking ]
Maybe they should start putting billboard signs up .. selling their product. Just imagine going to get a skyshard and you see a sign next to it "50% off on baggage".

Perhaps. Are people with this opinion going to just simply state that they don't care for the ads? Or will we continue to see this unnecessary exaggeration of how deeply it struck them in the feels, followed by someone else's pointless tie in to how it's the beginning of the end for the game. A bit of moaning about more horrors to come thrown in for good measure.

So I'm sure this discussion has come up for a while and to most this is old news, but I just tried to get back into the game from a long time away, so there yah go.

Why do I need to see a bloody ad every time I log into the bloody game.

I thought we had been over this already ZOS!

When I want to worship the gods of consumerism guess what? I GO TO THE LOCAL SHOPS!
I know where the crown store is, don't worry.

But when I log into a video game that I have already spent more money than on would consider sane on, I log in to play, not to spend more money.

At this point, I think most adults with a functioning brain and a bank account are well aware of the "ZOS WANT MORE MONEY!" mantra.

So there, I've said my peace in regards to what I suppose should be another unsurprisingly tasteless little choice.

Chime in if you like, or just let this pass into the forums graveyard, but for the love of The Nine please don't give me the, "well you just have hit escape when you log in stop whining OMFG!" Yes I know thank you for stating the obvious, doesn't make the ads, or you, any less annoying, but thank you.

If there was a sale or special and I was not notified I would be a little pissed, perhaps a toggle to turn off the ads? I would leave them turned on though.
