The last five days I've logged in after work to one of those ads. So you may be right, but that hasn't been my experience
I think it's silly people complain about it in the first place. It's take half a second to click the X. ZOS is a business and the game now requires no subscription. May as well complain to the free newspapers you might get about the ads they run in there too.
Doesn't matter the when, how, or where's...people will always complain about something. This is so petty it's ridiculous.

When you sign into the server to go into the game, it's basically like getting in a car to go to a store. When you reach the door...ads. If we don't keep spending money, the store goes away.
Do what you do when you go to a store....look and keep moving if you're not interested. It's a simple solution
ESO is a video game, not a store. It may happen to have a store, but it is a VIDEO GAME FIRST.
So I'm sure this discussion has come up for a while and to most this is old news, but I just tried to get back into the game from a long time away, so there yah go.
Why do I need to see a bloody ad every time I log into the bloody game.
I thought we had been over this already ZOS!
When I want to worship the gods of consumerism guess what? I GO TO THE LOCAL SHOPS!
I know where the crown store is, don't worry.
But when I log into a video game that I have already spent more money than on would consider sane on, I log in to play, not to spend more money.
At this point, I think most adults with a functioning brain and a bank account are well aware of the "ZOS WANT MORE MONEY!" mantra.
So there, I've said my peace in regards to what I suppose should be another unsurprisingly tasteless little choice.
Chime in if you like, or just let this pass into the forums graveyard, but for the love of The Nine please don't give me the, "well you just have hit escape when you log in stop whining OMFG!" Yes I know thank you for stating the obvious, doesn't make the ads, or you, any less annoying, but thank you.
I like it when they show the promos/sales. And its a lot better than the server messages we got last year "Its national pet day, buy a pet" or something like that

We knew this was going to happen when ZoS stopped making this a subscription service and made the game f2p (or whatever bastardization of f2p some pedant is going to flame me about). ZoS is going to be increasingly dependent on the microtransactional model to keep the lights on, since they can't create a game that people will simply pay to play.
Personally, I've decided to welcome my new microtransaction pushing overlords. I find the ingame advertising actually adds to my gaming experience, and I was hoping for some more advertising to add to game immersion. For example, maybe we could be asked to take a short survey before entering a delve, or asked to watch a short video when we turn in quests. Really, this is EXACTLY the experience I was hoping for when the game went f2p.

Like I said. I know its as simple as closing it, I still find it tasteless. Next!NewBlacksmurf wrote: »When you go to a store...what's at the front of every store? Ads

And MMOs cost money to upkeep so i welcome anything honestly as long as it doesnt have a negative impact on gameplay to keep the game profitable so it can turn out more content and continue to work on the game. MMOs are not the typical video game but i dont care if it was. When running a business, you ALWAYS look at ways to promote and advertise your product.
See that may be so. But here's the thing. I played, payed for, and supported this endeavor since beta, and the amount of thing that ZOS said they wouldn't do, or missteps they said they wouldn't repeat, I've seen fall to wayside and be forgotten so many times now, that yeah, I find this another pretty tasteless choice.
As far as being the nature of the beast, I don't know that it is, or that it has to be, you know?

Ah, you too @Lazrael? Well, then you should be very VERY used to these sorts of shenanigans.

The current frequency is 2x a week on consoles and it is not every time they update the store. They simply have featured items, they don't even need to be on sale for the pop-up to display. I'm sure you would be equally annoyed if a telemarketer called you twice a week on your cell phone.

and isn't that just a little bit sad? hahaha
Look, guys, I know in the grand scheme, it's small, but I also think it speaks to a larger issue, and I think it does deserve more that just a shrug.
