Yea add alliance change. It will be hilarious when everyone is in the same alliance and end up complaining because cyrodiil is dead. That'll be good for the game.

Alliance change should be ONCE per character after that your choice is final. This should be the same way for race changes. Flip flopping is annoying and this would allow some peace of mind for people who made that mistake when they started that first week.

From what ive experienced its common people found a guild they liked on an alternate faction that their alt was on and they moved there but their "main" or first character is stuck in a sub-optimal alliance.
Zhoyzu - Nightblade Alchemist (v15) RETIRED
    Has-No-Heart - Templar Enchanter (v4) FUBAR
Ambadassador - Dragon knight (v1) Naked with no future (returned from the naked realm to tank PvE)
Sakis Tolis - Sorceror (v10 in progress) Living Legend!

Xuhl'Xotuun - Warden Current Main as im starting the game over essentially with this character aside from crafting.

Creator of Khajiit fall dmg reduction racial passive concept.

People already have several max rank characters for each alliance they use to pvp. An alliance change would allow people to join their friends on their main character if they wished for it - and there probably would be a cooldown to use it as suggested. It really would not create any imbalance for pvp.

My only qualms with a crown store Alliance Change is that it doesn't come with a questline. I want to see the look of disappointment on Ayrenn's face as she hands me documents concerning the wereabouts of the Eyes of the Queen in Pact lands in exchange for Aeradan Camorans's life, a chase scene with her next high ranking official since ...
... I left Raz to die in Reaper's March ...

... that ends in Naryu blocking their path by dropping a portcullis just before we hop on some guars towards Mournhold. Sadly, I'll probably just double click the store icon and relog, where I'll appear in non-vet Davon's Watch. Cash shops make games so boring. I wonder if not being able to tell a story in lieu of a quick $ is as disheartening for ZOS's developers as I would feel.

...well... actually as a spoiler spoiler...
...Raz manages to make it out of the "certain doom" you last saw him in, and rejoins the queen's entourage at the final "path of Two Moons" quest... just look at who is standing left of the door to the final challenge, you can even ask him how he did it and will get a little tale... I still suspect Raz may be a bit more then he appears...

But yes, I too really, really want any possible alliance change to come with its own story quest! Bonus points for Naryu being the one players go to if they decide to defect to the Pact! ;)

Even for those of us who don't usually favour... her organisation... Naryu Virian is a dose of awesome.

    EP storylines need more Naryu!

Thanks for everyone's replies. It sounds like an overwhelming amount of you agree with the change as long as they include some type of restrictions that would make it appealing to only those who really truly need to change. That way it would effect PVPers a very minute amount if even at all!

I never joined any alliance IC, because my character of the Imperial Edition is a Cyrodiilic. If I want him to move to Wrothgar or Falkreath, I should be able to do so if I pay, because I might not play otherwise, because unlike you, I'd be choosing to waste a vast amount of time, and because it would help keep the ball rolling, expansion-wise.

I really would like this option. I have 3 DC alts that I want to change to EP like the rest of my toons. Probably, a prerrequisite is to have Cadwell's Gold quest complete before I can make the switch (all my Cyrodiil and Craglorn advances should persist, minus the DC wayshrines). This also means a Alliance campaign reset.

I dont like however that the change needs to have a cooldown. If any needs to be implemented, then a cooldown of 1 change per day.

I very much doubt it would change pvp in any meaningful way at the moment.
There is a poplocked "main" pvp campaign in both servers, which - surprise surprise - is poplocked - means all alliances have the same numbers and huge queues behind them.
How would joining the "inferior" enemy faction to farm your own would be possible when, in fact, all factions are already equally balanced on those main campaigns? Who would even spend money on such a thing when it offers no benefit whatsoever @blabafat ?
You can't join a less populated faction when that faction has already reached the limit and that has been mostly the case since forever.
If you are referring to the dead and empty campaigns nobody ever joins - then who the hell cares anyway? Let them hop and play there however they please, it's not that it's affecting anyone in a dead campaign, if they want to play PvE with keep guards and kill a enemy player once an hour - it is no big deal in any way.
The main campaign has always been poplocked (at least on EU), and as I stated above, if you switch from full faction to a full faction - you are not impacting or affecting pvp in any way, it just means you will have to wait in the queue for longer, thus shooting yourself in the foot.

Only if it was implemented as follows (apologies for quoting myself)
Or at V14 only, after all quests had been completed, all skyshards found, all lorebooks located... at which point it would be a possibility as a betrayal style quest. After which any npc/mob/character of note in your old faction would instantly aggro (even common townsfolk) and rush you out of any settlement where they could gather enough people.

... I would be interested to see how many people would take it up then.

(From thread on the same subject earlier this year)

Also, the alliance change should only be allowed as a one time use per character. A confirm dialog should appear before committing the change.

I agree with the once per character idea. @ZOS please make this happen. I would pay crowns for this.

At the end you can be in all 3 alliances with the same character so adding an alliance change option doesnt really make sense

    That is not quite right...

In the end, you will have visited all three alliances, but you -still- will -be- in your starting alliance. For crafting writs, for PvP, for coldharbour/craglorn instancing and for general usage.
Want to run craglorn with your RL friends that happened to make their characters in DC while you in a moment of madness went AD? (when you... "went bananas" :sunglasses: ) No can do. Want to fight in PvP with the same friends? Not possible unless someone rerolls their character or something.

And cases like these are IMO the only real reason to even contemplate any alliance changes. So you can group with people that happened to make their characters in another faction. If you really, really want to.

I still think it would be best done with a big questline and not just choosing to purchase some option from the crown store... such a questline could be rather on the epic side! (and they can always have the crownstore sell an option to -restart- the very same questline for those who feel the need to do it all over again and defect a second time or something...)

I started DC with my characters. My friends left the game and I ran solo for months. Then my wife began to play and made friends on AD. I trashed several vets and rerolled AD characters with no problem or remorse. But for one character, it's more than just a matter of rerolling and completing a few quests, it's 306 traits, and several hundred thousand AP in motifs. If I am not able to switch alliance, at least allow me to move my crafting trait research and motifs learned to another character in the alliance I choose.

This character has already completed Cadwell's Silver and Gold, and done most quests in the game. And things were tolerable, until you had to go into IC for some crafting stations, and do undaunted pledges for some of the style materials.

Firstly I would like to point out this doesn't effect me, all my chars are DC and I have no intention of changing that however I have multiple people in my guild who have switched to DC joined our guild and now love it and have no intention of ever going back to AD or EP, I think they should be able to port there characters over to us, I don't think they should lost the progress they have made on those chars, however I understand what people mean about guilds porting just to farm

My personal opinion is an alliance change SHOULD be available in the crown store BUT make it so each character can only be ported ONCE, so it gives people the chance to move there characters across if they found a guild they like on another faction but stops people changing every other day to farm AP,

Again this doesn't actually effect me just trying to find that Middle ground to make everyone happy

Alliance change? May be too hard. Would be fun if it were possible to play as a mercenary. Let's face it, lore wise all factions are pretty awful. It would be nice to just fight for whatever faction has the lowest number, for a price. Of course that reward would have to be something other than alliance points.

Please stop making requests for game features. ZOS have enough bad ideas as it is!

That's more like it, yeah. I personally would go with a six month cooldown. Possibly an hefty crown cost as well, at the very least for repeated changes...

When the game first launched I chose my first character as a DC Templar, then after a few weeks (2-3) I switched to an EP Dragonkight, trying things out since I didn't get to play the Beta. I found a really helpful awesome EP guild that I have been a part of since shortly after my EP character and have been playing with ever since. However, my DC Templar is way more enjoyable for me to play but I can't play that character with my EP guild for obvious reasons. My suggestion below.

I've played many MMORPG's and haven't been as satisfied with them as I am with ESO. I love this game, it has everything, almost. Besides the PVP/DUELING ideas I have, the reason for this post is the addition of an option to change Alliances. Whether it's VIA the crown store, or any other option (pay?). It can even have rules such as you can only switch alliances with each character ONE time, so make it count. I risk losing my EP guild because I can't transfer my DC character over. I would love to see this as an option in ESO. Shoot, I would even pay $20 or more to switch Alliances if I could!

Different factions, same story. I'd LOVE to see faction change allowed, even with hard limitations (must complete Cadwell's Gold, must be V14, may only change once per char or account, or whatever else they come up with). This is the thing that should have been in the Crown Store since it became available, instead of all the useless fluff.
    blabafat wrote: »
I 100% hope they do NOT add alliance change. It would create so much imbalance between factions.
The major pvp guilds would just switch alliances to the least populated so they can farm more ap
You need someone to kill to farm AP. Dead campaigns = no AP. Furthermore, there could be a limit on faction changes to prevent constant swapping. Your argument doesn't stick.
Imperial edition, you can make any race in any faction you want.
I preordered Imperial Edition, so I know that.. But I don't think that having a group of players that can freely choose alliance is an excuse for letting ALL players jump factions when they choose to do so.. Would effect PvP too much I think
Who said anything about jumping factions at will? That would indeed be nonsensical, but I've seen NOBODY asking for that. Also, anyone can get the Imperial Edition now, since it's been added to the Crown Store.
    wrlifeboil wrote: »
If they did allow paid faction changes, the price to allow a person to change a VR14 to another faction should reflect the amount of time which would be needed to level a brand new character to that level. 100,000 Crowns?
QFT. That is absolutely unreasonable. Yes, switching factions does provide the convenience of not having to level to VR14, but you know what? I have several characters that are in the early VRs that I'd like to bring over to my main faction. It's about playing the characters that I made and that I relate to, not just about saving a few weeks' grinding.

100,000 Crowns is reasonable. It costs $60 to boost a character to level 90 in WoW. That isn't even the maximum level (level 100 is the maximum) and it is much easier to level to 100 in WoW than it is to reach VR14 in ESO. The Crown store price should reflect that.

it cost $30 to faction change in WoW and $60 to boost a level 100( level cap)

if ZOS makes their faction change/ race change $60 I'm going to be seriously disappointed.

I have to VR toons on AD but I play on EHP now, I wish I could use those toons.

Personally I hope alliance change will be possible. I have similar situation as many here has. During early access I made AD character, later I found great and friendly EP guild.

It has taken me this long to get my main dragonknight to vr15 and my EP nightblade to vr6. I cannot just roll another dragonknight.

When class change comes, I can change my nightblade to dragonknight and recreaate my sweetie with little less work. But then I would lose my second best character... I would miss her too.

If alliance change comes possible, I'll be very happy. If it's too complicated, I get it and get over it.
