Did the Adult Themes in ESO Bother You?

This game features murder, racism, and drug use.
In one quest, I decided a Khajit was guilty of some minor crime. He gets executed on the spot after screaming in terror "No! I dont want to die!"
I didnt intend for that! I didnt want to stand by and watch him die over something so trivial. Especially with his heart wrenching plea. That scene still plays out in my mind to this day. It hurt my soul.

Meanwhile on the forums, the word "anuses" has been deemed inappropriate. Who is ZoS protecting? Who exposes themselves to this forum besides people who have exposed themselves to the horror of this game?
A non-curse word vs mass killing, drug use, racism, and being responsible for the deaths of innocents? Is this where we are at as a society?

I think he's trying to poke at the hypocrisy of it. You play a game involving the torture of innocents, drugs tearing families apart, and somehow swears are a problem.

Honestly? The game seems pretty tame. But I suppose that's what I get for playing Witcher for a tad too long.
But for the whole "anuses" buisness. It is simply annoying and at times supremely irritating--especially if the comment completely details the thread into a big insult fest.

I come to the forum to discuss, engage in dialogue and etc. on a few occasions I get into a few rants. I am not on the forums to entertain immature name calling. Thus, I support moderation.

Its not even swearing, its just language that is less than tasteful. It could have even been the OP of that thread who censored himself, but the point remains. I got legitimately disturbed by my role in the Khajit's death...in a video game. More-so than anything I've ever read on this forum.

    Yeah, but that's the thing

IRL, stuff like that is bad. Swearing, drugs, murder...

But ESO is a game -> who gives a flying -bleep- about drinking Skooma or killing the -bleep- out of a virtual character? The virtual police?

No hypocrisy here: they created a virtual world where we can do whatever we want (even becoming a swearing assassin), but out here in the real world we need to behave (hence my "Earth societies <> Nirn societes" comment) and not kill ppl over a beer

The themes do not bother me the slightest. Neither did the title of that thread.

Merchant Aranak, was it? The Khajiit you mentioned. The Green can be really unforgiving sometimes, although I think it is incredibly picky and not very consistent with who it punishes and who it forgives in this game.

Edit: By "the themes do not bother me", I mean that the fact that there are adult themes in the game doesn't bother me. I get really attached to some characters and this game made me feel my feels several times.

Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Generally found the game very tame until I unknowingly entered a tavernish coconut looking thing in Greenshade or Malabal Tor and saw a bunch of blueish chat text with players standing around. Not sure what that was all about, but I think the fat guy was pregnant.

I don't have a problem with swearing in game...I mean we are hacking and slaying many artificially alive creatures. But there are two kinds of colorful parlance.
    1. Swearing for the sake of swearing. The 14 year old when their parents aren't looking or listening.
    2. Proper swearing. Well formed strings of verbal dexterity that even the dad in "A Christmas Story" could admire.

    I can appreciate proper swearing.

Here is the difference... the profanity on the forums could be an issue in the real world if someone were to be so thin-skinned that they take offence to it. The murder & drugs & whatever are in a fantasy game. Fantasy. A game. .

So, no, the adult themes in the game don't bother me. I mostly played shooter FPS games in the past where the whole point of the game was to kill other players over & over.

That said, a forum topic with 'anuses' in the title doesn't bother me either. It's a general discussion forums so there are going to be lots of anuses... I mean... opinions.

Agreed. And repeating jokes about The Lusty Argonian Maid is not the way to go. I really don't want them to run that joke into the ground, but there are already several references to it in the game.

Just what I was going to say. The biggest reason this game feels so pointless and tame compared to Skyrim in my mind is the absence of blood, brutality etc (I think your "Brutality Pack" idea covers this, but it's too early to search it up), making slaughtering anything feel very unrealistic.

That is an interesting dichotomy. Here on the forums, we are treated like children of parents (mods) who are determined to shield their kids from spoiling their virgin eyes and ears. Meanwhile, in game, people are stealing other dudes skins and stuff. Not that it's particularly gruesome, they went pretty lame on that kind of stuff but the ideas are there.

Not surprised a thread with *** in the title was removed/edited. The censoring on the forum is way overboard. The game, nor that language doesn't bother me. What does bother me is the hypocrisy that I can't repeat things that are in the game here in the forum. You could never have a discussion about an old TV host named *** Cavet, even though that was his name. The game is rated Mature, the forum are kept in a Pleasantville state. I'd like to see more color in this B/W forum foisted on us.

I'm pretty sure the change for that thread's title was done by the OP. It likely was an attempt to have the concerns be viewed as more serious, and add to their credibility.

Edit - actually it seems the OP claims it to have been modded. Then likely it was viewed by Mods as a *** reference.

People who take any video game this serious shouldnt play them. For it to effect your thoughts like this isnt good. Some people just cant handle mature games, which is why the labeling warns you. Why would someone even buy a game that states there is adult content only to get appalled by it. It states when you make a decision that if you click on a red one, that you cannot reverse it.It lets you know to think about it.and if you read the choices it tells you that the npc will die if you choose the one option. So just dont pick that option if it bothers you.
As to the forums,I agree that they are far too G rating for my tastes, but I have to live with it. Ourorboros is right. You cant use Mr Cavet's name.It gets starred out. That's toooooo thin skinned.

    "Less than tasteful." So: tasteless?

It's an implication, depending upon how people want to use words. You didn't say "anuses" in the biological sense. You said anuses in the "ream you new one" sense.

That said, I wasn't offended by your tasteless (by your admission) comment, but I've been lurking on video game forums for a long, long time. As far as tasteless goes, that was pretty tame. Sort of like ESO, I suppose.

You see, this is how things work in the media and gaming world these days...

Swear words, and the female body, are evil terrible, disgusting things that should never be allowed, but murder, and intense violence is all gravy.

That being said. This game has like such mild, mild adult themes. I would let a 4 year old play this game because of how tame it is, especially compared to other games out there.

Well, the violence in this game isn't too bad and disturbing compared to other games, namely Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 & 3, to the point where the game asks you if you want to skip a part of the campaign due to the graphic and disturbing nature.

That being said, I've been playing violent video games my whole life, so violence doesn't disturb me much. But I can see how someone would be offended/moved by the violence in ESO.
